Quick question - a lot of people give negative reviews of the D90's due to its lack of autofocus during HD. Personally, I think this give you more creative control. Have you found this to be a big issue?
@javajoe1974 There is no DSLR with auto focus when filming except for a certain Nikon model but it's really noisy I prefer manual focus for filming anyway
@fretman67 i think that space between what is semi professional and professional is smaller today. d7000 is all we need. go to... freedslr . com remove spaces and try to get a way to bring home completely new Nikon D7000
I think you did a good job playing to the strengths of your camera. I've been shot with a friend using the 5D MkII, which is easier to work with given the manual controls and has a less pronounced rolling shutter. But seriously, I really dig the way you used the D90 in this piece.
hey there, nice video. I have the Canon 550D and I like to shoot videos with it too, but whenever I set it on my tripod and use the manual focusing on my lens, the camera always jiggles...it this because my tripod is pretty flimsy? or does this happen on most tripods?
I think its just the bad build quality of my tripod, its really flimsy, when i just adjust the focus ring the tripod will wobble because i only paid like £10 for it....
Hey, I have a Nikon D-90 too. Can I ask you how you get your video to fill out the entire YouTube screen? I use Final Cut Express and even after changing all the settings to 'HD 1280X720' when I export it, I still get the the bars at the top and the bottom of the screen. Thanks!
@erricko I heard you can lock exposure on the D90 and everything else is pretty auto. It's not a camcoder, it's a DSLR with video capabilites (the first of it's kind).
I really cant get this quality with my D90 18-105mm. I'm struggling 2 days with the settings. Quality of my videos dont even come close to this video.
Yes, I use the exposure lock too. Does anyone has the same issue?
@steamdata Thx for the reply! The setting in my d90 is x720 but when I import this movie in iMovie and try to upload it I cant choose HD (720) but only 540. I'm trying tonight to upload a movie.
@mcnriq ok There is no problem with the Camera actually it's the result to be expected... Like I told everybody, (nobody listen to me lol) The only way to acheive a film look is to use a good lens The only problem you have right now it's the lens my friend Zoom are crap for film look, as for the noise if you see it biger then youtube you will see less noise of course there is also filter to remove noise if you use a good editing software hope it helps
@steamdata haha thx for looking! I think youre right I excepted a quality like other d90 vids and yours with a standard kit lens. I'm right now looking for a 50mm 1.8 lens. The upcoming weeks I'll experiment with the d90 I think I also need a lot of patience.

This looks great - so film-like. I laugh when I read reviews of these cameras that say "get a camcorder". These damned things look as good as the friggin' movies. Just some question, when shooting indoor under fluorescent lights i notice the there's multiple lines just moving from up and down. I understand the trick is to increase the brightness. But sometimes increasing it doesn't work. Can it be done via software? Thanks :)
Is the video in better quality when not uploaded? I'm not sure if youtube is compressing files that are 2GB, if even possible to upload a file with 2GB or more.
All in all, did youtube compressed the movie a bit or it's RAW?
@steamdata Hmm, I've heard that DLSRs lack in audio quality. I'm actually planning on getting a Canon EOS 7D now, since it has a plethora of inputs and outputs, and because it has fantastic quality in low-light settings.
@MrBlandMan if you want to use this to shoot films, indie film makers use a separate flash digital recorder with a good mic attached and only use the on-board audio as a guide track.
@NickTrop Yea, I've actually been interested in attempting ADR. I'm probably going to mess around and use sounds that don't fit the situation just for the fun of it :]
it looks good but there needs to be a point of sharpness even with the shallowest DOF so the eye has something to focus on etc Which lens are you using ?
@drix01 This one was made with a old 50mm F1.4 so no focus assist, It's pretty hard to focus only with the little screen or the green light inside, the best with all those dslr is to have an external monitor
very cool vid. i just noticed that when u focus into a certain object, it doesnt show a sharp image. is it because of the lighting? r u using manual or auto focus? im using the lens with d60 so i cant autofocus but manual works fine but not shooting with people where it can get frustrating sometimes

@steamdata well to be perfectly honest, my main goal would be photography, however i do want a good filming camera cause i have a couple of short films up my sleve
@drodenbar Well for film definitely Canon and Zeiss make the perfect match. As for the full frame that is my only regret with the 7D you can't find a good fast wide angle because a 24mm will give you around 50 with the crop factor
@steamdata yeah of course but really the only full frame that i could afford is the sony a850 and i dont want to buy into the sony system. although the nikon d700 is similarly priced to the D7 but it doesnt shoot video. im basically looking at D90, D300s or 7D.
@steamdata thanks for the advice ill certainly take a much closer look at the 7D and the canon system much closer... and i trust the 7D also takes great shots aswell... comparable to the d90 and d300s
@drodenbar nikon got better lens but if you choose Zeiss as lens with the Canon you will have better result good luck with your purchase and give me some news about it
What were your settings???? PLEASE!!!! I have this Camera and I wanna know how you got that film 24fps look!!! What lences were you using?? Freakin AWESOME!!!
try to use mpeg streamclip (its free) for converting the avi s in mov s. Just choose 'save as' and choose mov as the format. I had problems with compatibility with premiere pro and fixed it this way. good luck
Thats true, no manual controls ( iris-W balance, etc.)the video Q i'ts not bad for SD, for details and regular ligthing will work just fine, if you wanna go for HD and manual controls Canon 5D ii Mark it's just out of this world.....i use nikons but i think this would be my only canon
Did you used 18-105 mm VR Lens Kit in this video? I'm also planing to buy a D90 but for video producing. Do you suggest it to me for video producing? As it's obvious from your video, the results are so good.
Ok if you want to buy the Nikon for Video production, well it's a bad idea, go for the Canon 7D. the lens that I have use for that one is the 50mm F1.4.
The result is good because I know my way around with the Nikon but still I have switch to Canon lately because Nikon video is knot that great compare to Canon
I see. Thank you for your response. After a long research period I decided to buy a Panasonic GH1. In think in video producing it's the best. It can shoot in 60p. D90 doesnt't have Autofocus feature but GH1 has. Moreover, GH1 has external mic outputs. You can also check it out.

try to use mpeg streamclip (its free) for converting the avi s in mov s.

Hi,
Did you used 18-105 mm VR Lens Kit in this video?

Anyway, thank again for your response mate. :)

How much is the difference between the GH1 and the Canon 7D ? because I would go for the 7D instead

This video yes, BUT I bought a Canon because Nikon lack of Manual control. You can check out my other video made with the Canon to compare.
