Hi. Thx for your videos. I've recently started some whisky-tasting myself. I found Lagavulin 16 to be overwhelmingly smokey and peaty on the nose. I think I'll have to try it some more to discover it's secrets. (btw. what do you think of Glengoyne, one of the whiskies that's not peaty at all?)
At this moment I'm trying some Glenfarclas 105. It's really warming. :)
I hope to see some more of your videos in the future.
i tried a lagavulin at a pub whilst up in the highlands on holiday, was blown away by it, but even more so by the price, 4.80 for a single measure, pretty pricey. a nice whisky though. will buy a bottle now im sure is it around the 45 pound mark?, also maybe a caol ila as well for a softer dram.
Hello Ronald, I am new to collecting scotch and enjoy your informative videos. I have a suggestion that you may want to briefly talk about the bottles design and layout for example at the beginning. and I would love to hear whether you think it is worthy of collecting at the end of the video, after the taste test and review. These are only suggestions, thank you.
I find Lagavulin 16 to be a difficult whisky to analyze. It has a broad range of condensed flavors and aromas that can be hard to break down. I have to be fully focused to appreciate it. The one criticism I have for this whisky is the finish, It's not contrasting with the palate or nose. Not very distinct.
Hi, love your videos, good whisky is a passion of mine. Have you tried the Benrinnes 15 year old? It might be my personal favorite, though I don't get to drink it much as it's tough to find in my part of the world. Good videos.
Sorry, it's not in my collection as well. But my friend KarelG66 does have it in his collection. I've already asked him to tell something about this whiky on this site!
Great to see you are so enthousiatic about the video's, however I regret to tell you that due to family circumstances, I will not be able to send in a new video at the moment. I also wanted to ask you if you have any suggestions about the new tasting video. I've got 200 whiskies.
Thank you Karel for your comment. In short time, we will plan a new whisky tasting and noosing for the whisky society members.
Yeah, bowmore 18 is to expensive, but good single malt doesnt come cheap :(
I prefer whiskies that is in the 94$ price-range. when it becomes like 113$ it starts to get to expensive.. BTW, is that youre whisky loft? are you a collector? and when does the next video hit the tube? :)
indeed, alcohol is too expensive in norway amongst many other things :/
looking forward to november 24 :) though would be fun to see more videos faster ;)
do you have lagavulin distillers edition? After seeing "Th Single Malt Whisky Flavour Map" im very curious about lagavulin distillers edition, could you maybe have reviewed that one and compare it to laga 16? :)
Yes, talisker 18 is very good, also its nice that i can smoke while drinking it. lagavulin gets a wierd tast when i smoke and drink it :(
I have been thinking on trying ardbeg. Also thinking on trying smokhead, have you tasted that one? trying to find a whisky with a good taste and not that expensive for party use :)
Ardbeg is also a great whisky that you should try. I tried the Smokehead but have to tell you that this is a whisky that I will not buy again soon. There is lots of smoke but that's it. In the Smokehead you can't find the delicate flavours that marriage in an Ardbeg or in a Lagavulin. Try a Laphroaig or the Bruichladdich 3D3. They come for a good price and are worth the try.
ok, think i will skip the smokehead then. i have tryed Laphroaig as you can see in the the list of the whiskies i have tasted below, and i do like it. doesnt look like Bruichladdich 3D3 is in the liquor store here in norway :/
Wow, their accent is so Dutch Like our former p.m. Jan-Peter Balkenende.

I don't no if you have him in your collection, but I'm really curious after the Balvenie SherryOak 17 Year Old Limited Edition.
boeklegger 4 years ago
As a matter of fact I'm tasting it this very moment.
colour : red copper/chestnut
nose : like the 12yo doublewood but richer and more fruity
palate : spices and chocolate, sweeter than the doublewood but not as sweet as the 21yo portwood
the finish is medium-dry (dark chocolate)
I like it a lot, it's like a Balvenie influenced by an Abelour A'bunadh (one of my favorite sherry matured malts)
This bottle states "first release 2007", so presumably an annual release will follow.

No no, I'm not Norwegian. But I've been there several times. My son has a lot of Norwegian friends and he can speak a bit Norwegian.
I like the Bowmore 18 YO, but it is defenitly more expensive than the Bowmore Legend! :)

ok :) how old is your son?

We have nosing and tasting november 24 I make a video of that.

ok :)
how many whiskies do you have in total then?
indeed, alcohol is too expensive in norway amongst many other things :/
looking forward to november 24 :) though would be fun to see more videos faster ;)

Hi, I'm a friend of Ronald's and we have compared the two a couple of times.
We think they are both great whiskies.
The DE is infact the regular 16 yo but finished for about another 2 years in Pedro Ximinez (ultra sweet sherry) casks.
This results in a sweeter palate and a shorter, less peaty finish.
Both whiskies are equally good but the regular 16yo is far less expensive and therefore my choice.
