  • Awesomeness!

  • I love the animatronic bespectacled Weatherman renderation.

  • I need a pepsi, need a pepsi, when I'm drinking some beer!

  • Anyone know where they got the samples of the Pepsi exec talking?

  • @1amsm1th That's The Weatherman reading a Pepsi memo aloud, not an exec.

  • @pansatyrson Thanks.

  • volvo issssssss

  • there are two words that come to mind- THE SHIT!!!!! (for all those who CANNOT read, THE shit-positive, good :])

  • YES!!!

  • I love me some Negativland.

  • I heart Negativeland

  • I index finger them

  • Good song, very Built to Spill -esque.

  • This is a very master piece, the song, the video, everything!

  • sheer awesomeness ten fold

  • This is a genuinely good song in pure musical terms. And of course its great in all the typical Negativland terms.

  • one of my favorite songs off one of my favorite albums.

    Dire Straits would be proud.

  • Full of Ebichu, I see

  • Leave it to Negativland to put a corporate inter-office memo to music!

  • sugababes are bad for you, negativland cool -pepsi voice-

  • assholes

  • NEGATIVLAND FOREVER!

  • the sugarcubes have their moments.

  • retarded people aren't supposed to suck dick, now just because you beguiled them into doing it, doesn't mean its right

  • whoa..just cam from a sugarcubes video. I'm not gay, but maybe I'm retarded. You seem like you get a hardon from judging people, that's cool dude.

  • i had oswald do a lecture for a gallery i am invlved in, even had eugene chadbourn come down and do a show with him, it was great, also had mark hosler in a few years back, now he is one funny guy

  • This is funny in a poke fun at the industry satire kind of way. Now if only there were some award for best use of Poser characters in a video. lol

  • wow, I had no idea they had a video for this song. I think it's the best song on the Dispepsi album (though the album should probably be listened to as a whole).

  • Was this song originally written by Negativland or some artist and they used their song for this video?

  • You are so full of shit. Cassetteboy is derivative of Negativland & plunderphonics. They are a bastion of integrity and self-effacing not self-important.

    Go huff a tailpipe.

  • Negativland is derivative of Dickie Goodman and all the original break-in (plunderphonics) pioneers, so what's your point? You've obviously never met or dealt with them personally, as human beings (if we can call them that)... I think they're full of themselves and I think you can hear and see it in their work. Sue me.

  • Norman, I have a suggestion for you: Shut the fuck up and let people enjoy their own music, you self-important, fraudulent, unoriginal troll with no soul (like everybody else, dumbass, there's no such thing as a soul).

  • No such thing as a soul? What! I agree w/you- as I was using the term it's just a word that means... uhm, u see when talking art & music & such the word soul can simply mean... a certain je ne sais quoi. Anyway, u & I may have to reconsider our postion. It's been proven whatever life is it's not physical. Weigh a body alive & then weigh the body dead. Anything physical moves a needle be it gravitationally or electromagnetically. The body weighs the same- whatever the life is it can't be physical

  • Do you like John Oswald too? The chorus here sounds a little like REM, who had their Orange Crush!

  • Oswald? No, not much. Ever heard of the Tape Beatles? Klarc Qent?

  • I was supposed to do a split EP with Klarc but I guess his drinking problem got the better of him and he disappeared off the face of the Earth.

I know of the Tape-beatles as well. Lloyd Dunn is a hypocritical asshole who looks down on people on public assistance even though the prick got a hefty art grant to finance their music.

    Besides, Jabberwocky is better ;)

  • Ok, screw Lloyd Dunn, the hypocrit! Let's go with Daniel Steven Crafts and Splatt and Kangaroo Kourt and Mark Harp and Orchid Spangiafora... What do you say? I say let's. As for Jabberwocky (r.i.p.) ... I prefer Acid Roundtrip. No, ;-)

Enough with these epigones! If you don't want to get serious get with Fortyone tout de suite!

I bet he'd do a split EP with you. I don't think he's on the stuff. Hey listen, cheers to you my man! Keep on creeping on. Much love.

  • It must annoy you to have to post here to get your music out huh?

    I know the feeling.

  • I'm only here 'cause you're here darling. When am I gonna get my kiss?

  • trust me i know how important i am. But i cant kiss you, i dont roll that way... but i am sure another guy will come along and take my place in your eye.

    how you been wild man?

  • Sounds like a lot of stuff available through Soleilmoon, a label I boycott 'coz the owner was a total snot to me! Noah Creshevsky, Paul Lansky, Mark Applebaum, Al Magolis, Iannis Xenakis, and Edgard Varese are a few of my faves!

  • drinking isnt a problem.

  • Superb!!! As an art marketeer for the past 20 years, it's wonderful to see the reason I've stuck it out and STILL count my blessings when I remember declining Bank of America's job offer years ago.

  • Great video...and a virtual David Wills? LOL.

I think people tend to forget Negativland create good if pointed/subverted pop songs...I mean FourFingers or Theme from a 10-8 Place are evil earworms!

It looks a lot like Second Life too, presumably as like them they are modelling via Poser...

  • this is beautiful. That you for putting this. what year did this song come out? I never heard them sound this "normal".

  • haha thank you..reeb

  • 1997. "Dispepsi"

  • Negativland doesn't sample: they use tape and splicing. Having done both, I can attest that the tape-and-splice method is much, much harder and time-consuming than sampling.

  • that seems pretty self explanatory.

  • btw, why the hell did sampling die off so much? seems like the only people that really do it now are tool and shitty rap acts.. and i guess ministry but who hasn't thrown a crappy george bush sample in there, politician samples are probably responsible for the death of it

  • Major corporate labels and the RIAA are the reason. It's not easy to fight multi-million-billion dollar gorillas. They basically own the airways so all people know is your MTV music. Remember in the 50's when it was considered bad for DJ's to take bribes? Now it is perfectly fine by Major Label standards to get paid to play mostly majors i.e. resulting in your Top 40.

  • Yeah I heard about that... Funny how it just backfired really bad and now everyone goes to the internet to get their free music LOL.. Dumb businessmen thinking they can turn art into a material commodity haha

  • Monnie, I believe Negativland had a landmark trial that protected them and other artists to utilize samples from licensed music in order to compose a piece of music. No one has to fight anyone to use samples, its legal. Aaron Funk wouldn't have a career if he didn't sample.

  • yes you are correct. there is a book called FAIR USE about the who thing. Its fucking amazing and EVERY artist should read it. Really everybody should.

  • The tile of the book is "Fair Use: The Story of the Letter U and the Numeral 2". It's a chronological collection of letters, press releases, news articles, legal documents, telephone transcripts and faxes about the Negativland/U2 case. What I found amusing was that Casey Kasim sent Negativland a copy of "How To Make Fiends and Influence People", and N-Land sent him a expose of the music industry's seamer side entitled "Rock Bottom".

  • yeah i know the name of the book, one of the guys from negativland sent it to me for free when i was in prison.

Its is funny as hell, i agree.

  • Uhh no they lost their case with U2; ironically it was those well known digital anarchists 2 Live Crew (??!?!LOL) who won that one...hence sampling in hiphop and other music is easier in the States. Sadly that ruling doesn't work anywhere else...we have no Fair Use in the UK.

  • Yeah man, you are correct. Well the UK is more fucked up than the states in lots of ways.

Soon that wont be the case as we get shuffled into the north american union. America will be in the same one world boat in about twenty years as you guys are in now.

Of course you'll be twenty years ahead. I like to watch the UK..its like seeing the future.

  • i no longer go on living for no other reason than that someone has not killed me, for i once again believe in art

  • You sound like me. We just have to stand up and fight. Keep going. Their are plenty of scenes out there and as we know, money isn't everything. I never want to end up like those MTV Rap videos who forgotten their roots and just brag about how many diamonds they got. Blood Diamonds mined by slaves in other countries.

  • yeah, and they rap to other peoples already famous songs that they bought the rights to with all their diamonds.. i dont know how p diddy started out but i really doubt it was in the ghetto or that he got to the top by rapping since he has no original shit.

someone told me negativland got the shit sued out of them by U2 and lost almost everything they had made with the band LOL.. then they made that one song making fun of that songs lyrics i guess because they already had the legal battle.. ha

  • Puffy was riding Biggy's co-tails. Biggy was actually talented but got shot. Puffy stepped in, took over. Made tributes, etc. Taking advantage of his death to the max. That's how Puffy got huge. He used to be in the background before that.

U2's Label sued them. U2 didn't mind them sampling them. Negativland even talked to one of the U2 members after it all.

Looks like Negativand changed their website to there name now instead of their label.

    negativland (dot) com

  • yeah dawg biggie wad da shit.

    werd.

  • wonderful good montage to one of my favorite songs by them

  • ubik is the new primetime but it's not as good as strawberry

  • is this Y i luv Xavier?

  • lol this made me think of xavier too, i wonder if they're connected somehow

  • The preaching dude reminds me of my art teacher.

  • we are sad creatures; brilliant video.

  • i love negativeland genious pure geniuos

  • I wish this kind of stuff would bring enough people together to change things. It definately helps. But damn I wish people would spend less time online and more time rioting. This country could use some massive roits.

  • @lvl1978 Quite roit!

  • Wow ... this is a truly moving song. I didn't even know this band existed until today. I am hypnotized by their awesomeness.

  • This is my favorite track on the album for the awesome guitars alone. And of course the content is great stuff too, I love Negativland.

    Is that Ebichu? XD

  • Kind of captures that Max Headroom, '80's, fun with soda era pretty well, I think. Far and away my favorite Negativland track. Far and away.

  • how did you get this

    and it comes out october,23,07

  • so when do you think the dvd will come out?

  • I love it. It looks like a Negativland video, and it emotes the hyperreality vignettes very well, IMO. The boardroom guys are my favorite part, along with the elegantly pirouetting David Wills!

  • DISAPPOINTING! such cheese-mo graphics! They could have done so much better!

  • like most negativland videos

  • It was neat, and this may be my favorite Negativland track, cuz of the heart on the sleeve wearing, but I dunno, something about the visuals detracts from the very straightforward lyrical content. I can see how this style of animation would and does work with N'lands usual mixes, but this time I think it impoverishes the song.

  • oh lord...that's the single greatest thing I've ever seen. and I've been on the moon. twice.
