  • i thought this was a mercedes.....

  • Is this the same company that built my first car,a 1989 hyundai excel hatchback????They've came a long way since then!!!!!!

  • What the!!! Is Hyundai trying to be Nissan with its R-spec badging all they are missing is the V. Now if they just changed the look of the car not to look like a Benz it would have its own image. Borrowing this and that from different manufacturers is not innovation.

  • @Nbuilder1 Isn't the best of both worlds better than something new?

  • I think Hyundai should make a more luxury brand like Toyota has Lexus. People still think Hyundai is cheap.

  • @iDiZZY15 they do the equus

  • @camirocz its still a Hyundai.

  • @iDiZZY15

kids like you are just arrogant and stupid... if you want to pay 40'000 bucks more for a car with a MERCEDES-logo on it, then go ahead...

  • @19DaRiO95 German Engineering > Korean Engineering KID

  • The tighten the suspension and steering, and call it sport? What a cheap ass idea. They don't even give sport suspension. Not to mention the cheap slap on sideskirts available at your friendly neighbour do-up shop. Another Hyundai attempt at being "as good as the rest". I would rather pay more than get screwed over like this.

  • why they won't go all in just yet...but they are slowly breaking into the market which I think is a smart move...beleive me keep your eye on Hyundai, they are not stupid and they are playing the game right right now

  • I think Hyundai could make a car with a price tag as much as other luxury cars, and it could very well be just as good or even better...but people will still say "its still just a Hyundai"...if Hyundai put another 20 or 30 grand in the Genesis and added more bells and whistles and priced it the same as a BMW or Mercedes people will still say the same thing...until peoples perception of Hyundai shifts then its always gonna be that same line said...I think Hyundai knows this and that's

  • Hyundai has BALLS, unlike conservative crowd pleasers *honda* cough, *toyota* cough, cough. I love Hyundai because they love to push the envelope with style and power. Though they may not execute to perfection, you have to give them respect for laying it all on the line.

  • @Xrobx6000X Dude, get a clue.. They are only fallowing in the Honda and Toyota's footsteps.. This Genesis for example is not unlike the original Lexus Ls400.. Trouble is, they didn't have the money to create an entire separate brand for it, so they just made a different badge.. Sure, Toyota is boring as all hell now. But in the 90's they were Bringing it, while Hyundai was busy building trash.

  • And one more thing i would like to say. Asians never learned how to do business. To what people they are going to sell this car? It is a luxury car so I assume older people and business men, But what in the world are they thinking giving it ricers name Type R? Sounds extremely ricer when you add names like spec R or spec V or Type what ever. Whats up with that?

  • throw the V8 in the Genesis coupe. PLease.

  • Hyndai made good cars for the last couple of years. They came from making heavy machinery such as mine machines and so on. Now they are making cars. I think Genesis is a good car, but to be honest it looks like a cheap parody on Mercedes Benz. I dont really like Idea of taking someone's design. And on top of that , you cant fix one thing about this car; No matter how good it is it is still Hyndai! I'lll buy it used sometime in 10 years form now, but i will never buy it new.

  • 410 hp...fuck yeah i hate foreign cars i'm a MOPAR guy but fuck yeah

  • behind their quality...as far as comparisons to vehicles that are 15k more expensive, that's not fair either...Hyundai is offering a fairly priced car that in fact can't really be compared to most cars on the market...I own an 04 Sonata and love it,one of the most dependable cars I have owned,4yrs and not a single problem,I don't think if Hyundai was such a "cheap" brand that I would say that...and yes I have owned a BMW too so I'm not biased

  • I think a lot of people have things a little twisted about this car...it is not marketed as a full on performance car,its a performance luxury car...its heavy and not made strictly for speed...Hyundai knows this and isn't marketing it as a sports car,it is a car that balances good performance along with the comfort of a luxury car. As far as people labeling Hyundai's as cheap,as far as I'm concerned any company that offers a warranty like Hyundai should be respected because it shows they stand

  • The thing that Hyundai, and more importantly their fans, will never understand is the concept of building a complete car.

What makes a great car great isn't the engine or the options list, it's the intangible things like steering feedback, cornering balance, throttle response, brake feel; and, these are the qualities that every Hyundai lacks.

So yes, on paper, you can have a Hyundai with the same specs as a BMW 5 series, but the driving experience will be shallow and unfulfilling.

  • So... your only "criticism" is that it doesn't belong to any category? LOL

You people ("professional" reviewers) keep getting funnier and funnier.

Time to dig deep sonny boy! Hyundai is a BIG company that has been around for a long time, even before they started building cars. They know what they're doing.

In my opinion, they crafted this Genesis to deliberately not belong to any particular category. Instead of going face to face with its rivals, they want people to think for themselves.

  • @Jutzujin

    @djeminescu

The 5.0 Mustang has more torque, weighs less, and therefore has a better 0-60 time.

Never ever compare a luxury sport sedan to a pony car.

Especially when they have two different price tags.

  • Hyundai is very good now

  • Is that an Excel? ;)

  • Hyundai wonderful...

Now, love my tuscani v6 idiots ;D

  • Lol, if I was Ford I'd be pretty embarassed that a Hyundai has a comparable V8 to their Mustangs.

  • @Jutzujin And they went around saying how great it was and how much time they worked on it, then Hyundai comes around with this. There engines have been excellent in their new models and it baffles me how they do it because unlike other manufactures they don't just equip better parts as that would increase the price to much.

  • 0:33 Hi Mercedes!

  • hyundai is steppin up in tha car food chain! watch out toyota and honda!!

  • i think in a few more gens, maybe next gen there cars are going to be amazing. this one feels kind of like the old american mindset of big engine and stiff suspension = sporty. i would rather pick up a cts the 300.

  • I just drove this car today and it definitely has the engine to back up that R badge! That is 5 litres of fury in that car. And it is very nice interior wise as well.

  • premium V8 engine >>> nissan's VQ V6

this is their flagship car sellin at bargain price. For the money, it's probably the best luxury sedan on the market today. I would get one with black color.

  • cool car, bad review..

  • Mercedes front end, BMW rear end, pretty nice interior. Needs some better looking wheels and some wider rubber. Too bad our domestic automakers can't make something like this for about the same coin ($45-$50K). I think Hyundai's warranty pretty good too. I'd consider if I was looking for a 4 door again. I think some folks are going to get shocked when they get left standing at the light.

  • sorry meant to say 11:5:1

  • 10:5:1 compression ratio and direct injection give it a little edge over the coyote 5.0

  • Sleeper.

  • Thumb Up For 5.0 R-Spec Coupe

  • @Pratchaya21081 Hyundai already said they will not put the v8 in the coupe. Supposedly it will not fit.

  • Full test = two brake torques and talking about other cars.

  • This is my next car WHOLLY CRAP!!!!

  • When I saw that this car had a 5.0L making 429hp, i bout crapped myself. No really.

  • @Floordford ikr from a hyundai lol

  • im starting to like hyundai...

  • suck car

  • For thosevwho remember a tiny Accent in the mid 90s would be amazed how far Htyndai has come with this 5.0 V8 rear wheel drive sports seden built by Hyundai.

  • @everyone we should all just own and drive ferraris. I'm the man I'm so cool. Lol.

  • But its a Hyundai

  • @gtiapr3 yeah but Hyundai never bankrupted LOL

  • @gtiapr3 <--- but ur a F@#%@# moron :)

  • This is wild. HYUNDAI!? They've made great marketing strides to change their image and they really have become a great competitor.

  • @Dennissays yeah i agree, i think its their marketing skill that made the go up on top.....other than that its a huyndai

  • I want to see this 5.0 go inside the Genesis Coupe attached to a 6 speed manual! I swear if Hyundai does that, the world would take them alot more seriously.

  • @krocialblack Don't worry Hyundai is the 4th largest car maker on planet earth, beating many competition in sales, fastest improving and growing car company on planet earth... The world already taking them seriously, of course haters and people in denial not.

  • this is alot of car for the cash. Yes it needs better seats and maybe alittle more roar but all in all a great car with massive speed. Oh and more power than fords base 5.0 :-p

  • WTF FUCK FORD CAN BE THE ONLY 1 WITH THE 5.0... NO FUCKIN SHITYY ASS IMPORT

  • @keith555055 Your ignorance is blinding.

  • @keith555055 Yes, you are a tard.

  • The R-spec performs just as well or better than the Infiniti M-56, BMW 550i, or Mercedes E550. Check out Motortrends test drive results: 0-6 4.8 seconds, 1/4 mile in 13.3 at 108 mph, .87g on all season tires! Hyundai just dealt a crushing blow to the Euro performance sedans. The R-spec is Hyundai's best car yet and it is awesome. If you buy one of the euro cars w/o considering this vehicle your just a "label" and don't truly care about quality and performance.

  • this r spec genesis ca't cpmpare the performance and quality luxury to the infiniti m serie

  • 0-60 5.3 second for a v8 that slow

  • @TheVq35de Think about how heavy and large this car is.

  • @TheVq35de your moms slow...getting the fuck outta my house this moring! BOOOM

  • definitely goes against the bmw 550i. and about the difference in badge, well thats what the difference in price is for.

  • here is a thing people that can afford this Hyundai will say that its better then BMW or benz but people that have money to buy either lets be real which do you think they will go for :) and the only way Hyundai can be a luxury car is to copy Germans and that's what they are doing

  • i think hyundai is trying to eventually trying to be a luxury auto maker

  • pffft, 550i over the well equipped economy car any day!

  • Hmm wasn't popular at Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach this year. I think I saw 3 or 4 people at their booth the entire time while the people were arriving in their S550 or S63/65 AMG, Audi A8, 7-Series, or Jaguar. Not even Lexus was that popular anywhere. I guess people went for the real thing instead of a plasticy cheap Hyundai.

  • @IPGAuto you would'nt say cheap or plasticy if you'd ever been in one! i've driven the 4.8 and the car ride and feels just as good as a bmw or merc

  • @MrMe1280 - Yes. Like I said, they had a booth at Pebble Beach show and I was the only person there looking at the Equus and Genesis. Every new car is smooth. But, will never drive like a German car. As much as people will disagree, the Germans will always be superior to its competition. I don't care that the CTS-V is faster than the M5 or any crap like that. I've owned and I know, and nothing to me is even close to a German car. The feel. The soul of the car. Just perfect.

  • @IPGAuto Ok, so we know how you feel about German cars, let's take it to another level. What's your opinion on German Bratwurst Vs. The American Hot dog?

  • @TheYamahaKodiak its for people with less money... hyundai is more about the bang for the buck... its true if people can a bmw then they will get it over a hyundai.

  • @TheYamahaKodiak thumbs up

  • @TheYamahaKodiak

Or... Hyundai now makes a better car than Euro makes? Yup. I think they do.

  • Recently, only car company that can barely compete with Hyundai Lx line,, have been Porsche, but alas, as expected,,,,, even Porsche is falling behind , Benz ?, BMW ? Forget it, Pelting with deceptive performance, flaky fancy decoration are the only option to lure the stupid name brand pimps, & whores, or haughty filthy riches, go ahead have a heart aching sorry days, driving around flop luxuries.. U, dingoes, costing arms & legs to maintain your loser's brands.. ha ha

  • Honestly even though its a nice looking car in this segment at the end of the day your paying BMW money to get yourself into an over priced Hyundai Genesis which I might add has no sports oriented background nor a performance division therefore lacking the overall purpose of the car itself, the DRIVING DYNAMICS! Sure luxury is an appearance but at the end of the day when you drive a car the art of its purpose is behind the wheel & engine. Even with all that power it is still a sloppy performer.

  • @Johncarson9113 sorry, Genisis for me

  • GDI- God Damned Injection.

  • At the end of the day, none of us here are racetrack drivers. Well, probably very few. I think Hyundai is taking some nice steps forward just as Honda and Toyota did in the 70's. Let's cut them some some slack, and give them a chance to get on par with their older companions. It's kind of nice to see a new kid on the block.

  • the interior is ugly...

  • let's hope they don't decide to put a bunch of fancy electronic garbage in it.

  • turning that asphalt into korean bbq

  • I don't no it's just too....... KOREAN!!!

  • Hyundai go

  • It's nice, let's see how the reliability goes.

  • At the end of the day its still a Hyundai...

  • @99skyline99 Why the fuck cares. That comment is so out of date...

  • I wish they could add two small turbos for a boost in power. 550+ hp, firm up suspension, manual transmission, more steering feel and handling adjustments. And work on design a little. Give it some soul.

  • im korean and i find this car bland, dull, lifeless, emotionally detached, souless...

not a car i would ever consider for a purchase. its neither a luxury cruiser nor a sports sedan... its an amalgamation of both that results in the nullification of both sentiments.

Hyundai is known for ships and supertankers... they are the Rolls Royces of the seas. But cars? thats why they're Hyundai.

  • @TheJohancha86 You are not even Korean, U are jap and that says it all. This Hyundai would eat alive many jap and American cars even some German cars... You people are just sad about Hyundai's rise.

  • @jxtsful I'm KOREAN. pure korean. Not biased or partial. It doesn't possess a soul or character. Its a machine that gets you from point a to point b with total detachment of realism. Japanese cars are the same; bland, ubiquitous and lifeless. So are American. The only cars that connect you with the road are European... and they are very unreliable and pricey.. which is why they are always suffering financially. European cars, you want to drive just for driving. Hyundais.. its a different story.

  • @TheJohancha86 How it doesn't possess a soul or character, this car has a nice engine sound, is powerful and drives exquisitely fine, very nice interior, built with good quality materials. " The only car that connect you with the reoad are the Europeans"... Lets put a shitty C class or a 3 Series against this monster who will be more exciting??? Gotcha...

  • @jxtsful You say this because you haven't driven the Genesis or a "shitty" C class or 3 series. I have driven both. Let me tell you, the Genesis is great value for the money and is engineered very well. HOWEVER, when you drive it, the experience you get is very different from a BMW. There is no steering feel; it feels robotic, electronic, comfortable, but doesn't really engage your emotions. The BMW behaves like a totally different animal. I can't afford BMW, but then, I don't want the Genesis.

  • @TheJohancha86 I have my brother has a C class and few years ago I drove my friend's 3 Series from LA to San Francisco. Believe me these two cars are shitty compared to the ultra lux, v8 Tau Equus. What are u smoking?

  • @jxtsful Your arrogance does not denote the possibilty of reason. If you could understand the nature of a car's character, then you could reason with yourself to think likewise. I've had a Jag, Mini, Lexus, Ford, Acura and Lincoln, and trust me, the Genesis and Equus do not stir my soul.

    Its very bland and uncompromising.

  • @TheJohancha86 hahaha you have a Ford, Acura and Lincoln and the Euquus and Genesis won't stir your soul?? hahahaha.. Im done with your stupidity. Ford? hahah fucking Ford u serious? that shows your stupidity.. Oh by the way cars are machines, metal... have no soul moron. :)

  • @jxtsful I've had a JAGUAR, MINI, LEXUS ACURA AND FORD. GENESIS IS JUST LIKE AN ACURA.

your mental incompetence will not get you far in enjoying cars.

  • @TheJohancha86 u have a Ford... enjoy your Ford... hahaha...Cars have soul??? next u will say they have brains, kidneys and livers?? moron...

  • @jxtsful i have a jaguar now. at least i have a connection with it. Korean cars.. i just want to get out once im in. The genesis rides like a truck. WE koreans are shipbuilders, financers, electronic giants.

Cars... leave it to someone else to do. Its not viable.

  • @TheJohancha86 <--- Self hating Korean jerk... Typical low self esteem, own country hater moron.

  • @TheJohancha86 Jaguar? that expensive, difficult to maintain, over rated over priced car??? too boring to me.

  • Is money gotten from Hyundai and were petty tricks done so that smoke might rise from the tire?

It deceives without putting out the numerical value of the driving performance and FULLTEST what.

Is it a nature that deceives everything?

  • @biyorkman <--- jap talking.

  • @biyorkman

    Hahahaha shuttup

  • Very nice car!

  • From the back, it looks exactly like an Infiniti m.

  • you americans dont know how to test drive cars

  • I love how there's a BMW 5 series on the video thumbnail when this is a Genesis R-Spec review lol

  • I'm guessing that Hyundai wants people to cross shop this car with used German super sedans. If you can't afford a brand new AMG or M5, get a brand new car that kinda looks like 'em, kinda performs like 'em and has a killer warranty. Sounds like a plan to me.

  • @rawsketch proves my point, buying a new car is a waste of money

  • @torogami2 Buying a new car has its own advantages however. 1. all new style. 2. latest tech. 3. full warranty. 4. Gets girls' attention 5. Save time on frequent maintenances. 6. feel like you are something more. I buy a new car for keep.

  • @bsp1148 not always, an '07 m5 will have more tech than a brand new chevrolet camaro. a lot more girls would be impressed by a mclaren f1 than a toyota prius and unless you buy a 20 year old car you're not going to save money on maintenance.

  • @torogami2 not always but mostly true with a new car. Comparing a Camaro to a Mclaren F1 is like an apple to orange comparison. I have a whole lot more respect for a prius than many sexy powerful cars on the road.

For the price difference of 5K between new and used(2009) Accord with same equipments, I prefer the new.

  • @bsp1148 well if you're buy a putrid Accord then it doesn't matter, but instead of a new accord you could get an '04 bmw m3 which is a much better car

  • @rawsketch Or you could just get a CTS-V.

  • It also look almost identical to a Merc... and that's an old Mercedes of that. That said for the price is hard to beat, so many features for so much less than the germans, and it might very possibly be more reliable

  • @andavid More reliable? But I definately get the target market.

  • Beautiful car

  • very bad a car its cola box.

  • Put that engine in the Genesis Coupe and you have a winner.

  • This car is so SEXY!

  • most quiet burnout evar?

  • @jonwilliams16 loose the exhaust, maybe it get louder

  • I don't get it. The Genesis competes with the 7-Series, LS, and S-Class at first, now its competing with 5-Series, M37? Jeeze lol Good luck Hyundai, but you aint taking any sales away from Lexus, BMW, Audi, or Mercedes buyers.

  • SAABKYLE04 brought me here

  • @carwash1009 just sucking on his cack eh

  • I like the LS460 Sport better :D but this car is quite the beast

  • for some reason i dont like the front design since the 2009 genisis, like equus look better

  • hyundai has stepped it up a lot the past couple of years. im impressed.

  • Full Test hah, what a joke

  • how bout M56 comparo plz??

  • @519Garage The rear looks identical to the new Infiniti M, but is different in every other way.

  • VS M56S see what happens!

  • Why is the thumbnail of this video a BMW 5 series?

  • They should put the 5.0 in the Genesis Coupe Seriously give it a 7 speed manual :)

  • I'm not that impress with this car. However it is fast in the 1/4 mile 13.5. The Mustang Gt has more hp when Dyno at 395 to R spec 364 see inside line. So is the the Gt under Rated or R-spec is full of crap. So please stop comparing this motor to Ford 5.0

  • @dhan219 one cannot stop comparing the 5.0 Genesis vs the 5.0 Mustang, since mustang is supposed to be a Legend, and the Legend has been defeated in HP by a new comer, Hyundai!... that is why is so impressive.

  • @jxtsful go to insideline where thy dyno the the R spec vs Gt vs SS. It doesn't have more HP then the GT its a fact. You can't miss it. Just because one company say they have more hp doesn't mean it has more hp. Marketing BS.

  • @dhan219 Just Sad... a "legend" got beat by a Hyundai, welcome to 2011. Hyundai FTW. Cry me a river.

  • Why not compare this to Lexus?

  • An SHO mabe?

  • Ifiniti's M35 Hybrid does 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds and it has a V6!!!!

  • Too bad that the "legend" Mustang has less HP than a Hyundai... LOL Hyundai FTW!

  • @scrotillathehun Same path Toyota followed. Start cheap and then expand your lineup.

  • look like a chrysler 200 and like a mercedes!!!!!!!! ;(

  • Poor design...

  • nice ride!

  • nice ride!!!

  • nice ride

  • nice ride

  • that is an odd, odd car. I like what hyundai is doing though. They have been progressing ever since their introduction into the USA. I don't see that car selling very well. I think hyundai is a good company but not for burnouts.

  • nice to see hyundai entering new market with this engine!

  • whether you would buy this car or not is a different story, but the fact is Hyundai is rising quickly and their vehicles are outstanding. Honda and Toyota should take note..

  • Quick comparison: the first Viper had a 8.0 V10 with 400 hp.

  • @Dosayla4wd LOL laugh all you want a korean's , but you guys in the Philippines can't even build a car yet.

  • man i cannot wait to buy this car i have been waiting for it to come out for 8 months now. By the way i currently own a 2011 Mercedes E350 fully loaded at 65k and i test drove a 2012 Genesis 3.8 ( also fully loaded but only at $41,500 ) and it was miles better in every way luxury, performance, handling, the lot. So i can just imagine how much better the 5.0 r spec will be, holy crap!
