Hi marbleblastfan, I believe you are talking about the shot from about 2:23 to 2:34...the plasma trail is visible through the two aft flight deck overhead windows...the lower set of windows provide a view into the cargo bay.
Actually, a little of both...I assume your talking about the sts-119 com's...I recorder these bites from NASA tv during the "real life" reentry...for the first video (Re-Entry Part 1), I added the sound to the movie. For parts 2 and 3, I created a folder in /orbiter/sound/radio/(and called it)/"142.400 discovery"/... I dropped the sound bites in that folder, then used orbiter sound 3.5's sequential editor to set the timing for each sound bite to be played.
