It's interesting and a little sad that he had once been a very devout Sunni Muslim. He had divorced his first wife in strict accordance to Islamic law. It was good that he outlawed arranged marriages and abolished the practice of taking multiple wives. Certain aspects of Sharia law are very brutal to women, and he was very conscious of that.
