I think you are talking about the LHC (Large Hadron Colider)

It's not a telescope. It allows us to simulate what happened milliseconds after the big bang occured. It does this by smashing particles together and that process could create mini black holes. That is only a hypothesis and hasn't been proven yet. It will also let us find new particles like the ever elusive higgs boson.

Did anybody else notice that this is the only point in the game where Lenna isn't the first person to be woken up by someone else when everyone's knocked out? Every other time, someone wakes up, immediately gets her up, then they each get the other 2 up.

The thing people were/are worried about is the Large Hadron Collider in France/Switzerland that smashes particles together at 95% the speed of light (it's not a telescope). It will make mini black holes, but their Hawking radiation will make them dissipate almost as soon as they're formed, and their event horizon will never envelope another particle or anything.

The reason why we know it's not a threat is because much higher reactions in the upper atmosphere occur all the time.

THE particle accelerator really. Designed to create conditions similar to (though obviously not the same scale) how they are believed to have been at the formation of the Universe.

So I kind of understand how you might think telescope. Considering how telescopes look back in time because of the sheer distance of how far the stars are away.

(100 lightyears away means that star appears to us now as it was 100 years ago, etc.)

A lighthearted game gets a lighthearted ending..a game made now probably have had the party still survive, but most of the world is still destroyed, so then they have to work to rebuild it; the pyrrhic victory ending.

Black holes don't work that way; they don't suck. You know how they're made by collapsing stars?

The entire point around those is that black holes have an infinite (Although its really probably finite, but really, really high) density, but a finite mass - they have the same gravitational pull as the star it collapsed from. Meaning, microscopic black holes, made from a couple of protons, would have the same pull AS a couple of protons.

JonathanClement140 and Penniwhistle basically already said it, but yeah, it's the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland. It's not a telescope, but it can give us an idea of what the universe was like a very short time after the Big Bang (but not BEFORE the big bang, because, as I think Stephen Hawking has said, "before the Big Bang" makes as much sense as "north of the North Pole").

And I too prefer the less fantasy-like FF plots, but gameplay-wise, FFV may actually be my favorite.

Yea, The earth and hell even a human could become a black hole if it was compressed to a small enough space. It would still have the same amount of gravity though. (If the sun would become a black hole the earth would rotate exactly the same way around the black hole. )

The size and mass of the theoretical black holes are so small that I would think they would be dissipated very quickly.

Unless they make a strangelet particle, it has enough mass in a single particle to create a black hole powerful enough to swallow the earth, if I remember correctly, it has a gravitational pull 700 times that of Francium or Gold.
