  • One more real quick: When a customer brings back a mower for refund or exchange after they hit a fire hydrant with the blade and bend the crank, DON'T tell them it's warranty. Most (if not all) "warranty" reairs I do for you big box stores is customers fault. Try telling them to read their owners manual before using. Also, explain exactly what "warranty" means. It doesn't cover misuse. Only covers factory defects in material and workmanship. Not backing over a new weed trimmer with their car.

  • Also, people, don't buy any equipment from these stores. Once it goes out the door, your on your own. Lowes, WalMart, Home Depot, etc. could care less if you have any problems. They just sell, not repair. Buy the same equipment from a store that has a shop. You will get priority service during the busy season. I run a small shop that sells the same equipment. I see stuff come in my store from these stores w/engines locked up because they (big-box stores) forgot to put oil in the engine.

  • Hey, Mike: If you can show people how to change their oil, why can you guys service what you sell? I get dozens of people who buy from Lowes and I have to do the warranty work. (which is never warranty) Why not Lowes set up repair shops in each store and hire real mechanics and pay accordingly. Not put some zit-faced kid in the shop who came from the toilet seat department. To not service/repair what you sell just irks the shit out of me. Has to go to the competitor for work. Just wondering...

  • RONCO CENTER .C OM FOR PARTS

  • hi where can i get a oil vaccuum ? i checked ebay but there nothing, im in the UK

  • @111alien111 RONCO CENTER .C OM

  • @RoncoShop

    thankyou

  • @111alien111 The oil vacuum is optional. The oil can be drained by tipping the mower on its side and simply pouring out the oil. If you'd like to purchase an oil vacuum, try your local auto parts store. Thank you for watching the Lowe’s YouTube Channel. –Lowe’s

  • Excellent! Thanks for the video that was very helpful. Just one question: Where do I buy a oil container similar to yours? I've looked online and most of them are stainless.

    Thanks in advance

  • @buckmajor FOR PARTS VISIT RONCOCENTER . COM CHEAP AND FAST ON THE SHIPPING

  • this guy is sharp.....the guy at my lowes is a complete bumbling idiot

  • Comment removed

  • Lowe's is great compared to the service received at Home Depot, plus they price match on EVERYTHING! This was very helpful to me. Thanks!

  • Yah, just wanted to know where the drain plug was. Instead I got three minutes of useless B.S. So frustrating, actually thats the way I usually feel at Lowes anyway so I should have expected it.

  • @NickBell81

?? The guy explained it clearly that some mowers have a drain plug (2.05min). That doesn't mean all mowers do. Call a professional in case you do something stupid/dumb and try to pull the plug off while the lawn mower is still on and then cut your hand off.

  • Three minutes just for that? All I needed to know was where the drain was - Apparently the drain is where the dipstick is.

  • Turning the blade is the same thing as pulling the pull start. If you don't disconnect the spark plug, you are asking for trouble.

  • you dont need to unplug the sparkplug LOL. how is a pull start going to start up on its own?

  • @wendysisgay ummm if you spin the blades the lawn mower will turn over, its the same as pulling the cord

  • @wendysisgay you'd be suprised

  • or u can use the plug under the deck bu tippins just as okk.........

  • only prob is that he showed us with a briggs but what about tech. kohler kawasaki and all the new cheep piece of shit chinese engine sold at lowes and homedepot

  • I can't even find the "spark plug wire"... ? WHY IS THIS SO CONFUSING LAWN MOWERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FOR NORMAL PEOPLE NOT A FARMER OR MECHANIC. :-(

  • Has anyone purchased a push mower that came with manufacturer's instructions to change the motor oil after the first 5 hours of use? If so, why is this important? The only thing I can come up with is the manufacturer may not have put enough oil in the engine to begin with and knows the thing might catch on fire not long after 5 hours of use if severely low. Hence, the instructions to change the oil to put the onus on the owner if the thing catches on fire.

  • @DanHull817 A brand new engine can have dirt in it from assembly. Also when new some of the parts will wear a little bit as they break in. You end up with little shavings of metal in the oil. It is best to get all this junk out of the engine before it starts to wear things out.

  • @DanHull817 you have to change the oil pretty soon on all new engines because its new and there will be alotmore floating debree in the oil and other stufff falling off of the new engine. thats why the first oil change is the most important

  • ... is it just me, or does this feel like drivers ed?

  • Here's a suggestion: instead of just recycling old oil, use it to paint the bottom of your lawn mower to prevent rusting for a long time, (of cousre this require's you to remove all of the grass clogged in there thoroughly before you start.)

  • Hi mike

  • Anyone notice how loose the wheel is when he starts it up at the end. LOL

  • Great, thanks!

  • I found this to be a help, I have never changed oil at all, yes some of the things were just common sense but for saftey reasons had to be stated. I think that I can change the oil now and not worry about messing it up.

  • this video could have been done in one minute.minus all the safety b.s. boy i'm glad he mentioned opening the garage door all the way, cause i was going to do it in the bedroom closet with the door closed.

  • Will someone get smart and actually specific the correct amount of oil these mower engines take? Mower engine mfg's should do this as a matter of courtesy and obligation. They just tell you not to over fill it!! All they are willing to do is leave it to you to guess how much oil to put in..The filling and checking is tedious and should not be necessary! Is it a pint or less? I am going to call Briggs and Stratton and get this resolved!!

  • @lclaughton Why don't you change the oil of your machine (fill and check once).....then empty the lawnmower's oil, measure it, and report back for everyone else.....you will demonstrate how smart you are!

  • I think disconnecting the spark plug wire is way overkill but im sure theres been 1 freak accident start up in 10 million so thats probably why they tell you to disconnect. Mine has a bail to it an d if its not pressed down, theres no way its going to start or stay started.

  • @alltelman5 Better safe than sorry, i'd rather have a 0% chance of an accidental start up than a .01% chance. Especially since it takes 2 seconds to disconnect the wire.

  • @sucklava your point is well taken. I agree. I'm sure theres someone out there thats missing a hand or fingers cause they didnt disconnect the wire, so im sure it had happned somewhere.

  • he sounds like ted williams a lil bit !lol!

  • Thanks - very helpful!

  • Check the LiquiVac Oil Change System in Lowe's. It vacuums the oil out the dipstick tube ...fast and without the mess. liquivac.com

  • Thanks, Lowes for proviiding this information

  • Thanks a lot for posting, very helpful!!

  • DUDE!!! i completely overfiled the crank case of thick oil on accident. i forgot there was a fill limit and i was adding oil and witing for it to reach the top of the tank like in the gas tank. i filled ip up about 3-4 inches above the FULL mark. I emptied it and now its att full but still wont start...what do i do? I drained the water form the carb, used a wire to clean the holes in the carb, cleaned the sparkplug...

  • @TheUFOeffect: i know for sure i need a new air filter. I took off the air filter to try and get more air in the engine to give it a stronger comustion tog et it going. when i tried to start it i realized some gas was squirting into the air filter...is that bad? also my oil is black..im not sure how thick is thick when it comes to oil. are some oils clear and some black?

  • @TheUFOeffect drain every liquid ,the gas and the oil .clean the carb with a wire from a wire brush ,clean the jet holes , the float and flush it with gas ,then with it apart and with the oil plugs in ,crank the engine a few times and check for oil in the carb .if there is clean it keep repeating this step until no signs of oil in the carb.assemble carb and fill gas tank and add fresh oil to recomended amount .if the spark plug checks out and everything appears to be fine (no leaks) .....

  • @gokartbuyer crank engine over a few times without ignition switch on to redistribute new oil then attempt to start engine . this should work ,if not you most likely have forgotten to clean a part of the carb ,before you try again squirt gas into the air intake.if it fires up for a few seconds then its the carb if not you may have low compression from a blown head gasket which might have happenned.if it does start it will smoke from the excess oil which will clear up in a few minutes.Good luck!

  • @gokartbuyer: Daym, you know what your talking about. We sent it in and they had to rebuild the card...whatever that means. i think they replaced the float and some other stuff.

  • Oh, do you work for lowes?

  • wait that is my mower

  • @austinsfarm i had one exactly like this one (except for the wheels) the govenor springs suck one day it didn`t want to start it was all maintained all good to go but it would kinda start and rev up and down then die i couldn`t figuire it out so i stored it away for awhile took its magneto for my go-kart and bought a new briggs 6.5 toro which is awesome way faster and more reliable ,more powerful , and saves alot of gas and it is a old flathead model and it is from 2009.i only use briggs now!

  • @gokartbuyer hi, your problem on the old mower was probs a blocked jet and yeah briggs is the best, i used to have a honda and the idle was all over the place but my briggs i got now is left outside all year round and runs great. i think the problem with some mowers is the governor is operated by a fly wheel operating a centrifugal lever in the crank case wheras briggs use the air being forced from the top to push and pull a lever for smoother throttle responce

  • @HATZld nah it tuned out to be the spring i fixed it by shortening the spring

  • is that a briggs or honda

  • @th19940305 its a honda

  • @th19940305

    yes.

  • i am so thanking this dude so much. cuz i changed the oil in my mower the other day and it works now.

  • o damn i just noticed i got the same mower@

  • i got a mower from lowes so this is great

  • thx
