The EV1 ran 100 miles on antiquated lead acid batteries. Why does the Volt only go 40 miles on space-age Lithium ion batteries??? GM is STILL CORRUPT!!!

4 out of 5 Americans who drive to and from work drive less than 40 miles per day. Unneeded extra range means unneeded extra battery cost and weight. That's the whole reason for the onboard genset. It's to offset the cost of unnecessary battery capacity, as well as provide extended range for long trips.

Use your trip meter. See how far your commute is. If it's longer than 40 miles, don't worry. Starting with your 41st mile, you will get an impressive 50MPG.

Yeah but at the 121st mile the EV1 leaves you stranded wherever you happen to be. The volt can pull into any gas station and refuel. It's called range anxiety, and that is what killed the pure electric car. Only a handful of people want a car that can virtually never go more than 60 miles from home.  The Volt can drive across country just like any regular car.

The entire EV1 fleet was owned by GM. The cost to keep the fleet up and running was too much. Leases were based around a $40,000 car while the EV1 itself cost GM over $80,000 each. With each lease, GM was losing $40,000 on top of the cost to maintain the fleet.

People don't want an expensive 2 seater that is dead once the battery is drained. That's why only 5,000 people ever showed interest in the EV1, while the Volt has almost 50,000 on the want list now, and it's still a year from production.

1) GM should have sold them, not kept them out of public hands.

2) There was a waiting list for the EV1 longer than your arm despite refusal to sell and minimal marketing.

3) Considering how people are able to build EV's from scratch, having EV1's out in the public would be no problem.

4) The EV1 wasn't even marketed much.

5) They only produced a few and they unnecessarily created a totally new platform, so of course it was more expensive per car.

Chevron and the other oil companies stopped battery development so that we would not have elecrtic cars and all of you just keep falling for thier tricks. Now these same fools are trying to trick you with fuel cells, they do not work either, the cars cost millions to products. Next they try to keep everyone on anything but batteries so that you can not fuel your own cars without have to go through them.

GM and the other major automakers must think we are stupid, they had a elecric cars that had a range of 150 on a battery, now they bring out a car with a 40 range on the battery. That is going completely in the wrong way, they are doing everything possible to bring out that fire hazard the Chevy Volt!

The VOLT...is a HOAX. GM would have already released it, using lead-acid batteries, if it were serious.

But wanting to wait for the perfect battery is just an excuse to wait until gas prices come down.

It's a LIE, GM won't even admit that the EV1 was a success, or that the RAV4-EV still runs with over 100 miles range on a charge.

you need a very big and heavy lead acid battery pack in order to drive 40 miles in a modern car. And lead acid have big safety and environmental issues.

RAV4-EV had a nimh battery pack, nobody can't do nimh cars anymore because Chevron won't allow that (they have the patent)
