    RMK

  • ur camara work is very bad, not to be mean, but if ur going to help, make sure u do

  • I just want to say THANK YOU for this video. I'm a beginner, and I thought you worked at a great pace and explained things thoroughly. This was probably the 10th video I've watched and the 20th pattern I've tried... and finally, SUCCESS! I can't believe people actually complain about this...

  • alot of people are saying that you don't explain enough but ive looked at other how to videos and yours by far is the best! i learned all the stiches on the spot from this, thank you!

  • best video ever

  • thank you for the vid. the hat goes good with my sweater cant wait to show my sixth grade friends what i made

    p.s. im in sixth grade

  • My god! thank you! I've been stuck doing scarves and blankets for so long!

When i learned i was never taught to read a pattern and i dont really understand unless i see someone do it. Thank you so so so much

  • Hey I am not sure what some people are saying! I have been working on making a hat for like 2 days not and every video I find I turn out with a glob mess! But with your video I understand so much better now! So thanks so much for posting this! I just started crocheting a week ago and you explain things very well in my opinion! If you have time post more I enjoy them!!

  • FINALLY!! Someone who explains this in plain english C: I couldn't figure out why my hat was getting all bunched up so thank you so much!

  • u do this so fast. so jealous lol

  • was my comment removed? I don't see it on here..i need for this lady to go slower while she is making rows.

  • you are going to fast for me..

  • Excuse me but what is an H in mm? X Y

  • How do you finish off the hat? Do you do a slip knot? This video was very helpful!

  • Great info but you're going way too quick for me to learn!

  • After watching the video again is this the correct pattern?

    Row 3: sc 1-2-1-2 etc;

    Row 4: sc 1-2-2-1-2-2 etc;

    Row 5: sc 1-1-1-1-1 etc?

  • @samare46

    Round 3: 1SC, 2SC, 1SC, 2SC continue until end of round

    Round 4: 1SC, 1SC, 2SC, 1SC, 1SC, 2SC continue until end of round

    Round 5: 1SC, 1SC, 1SC, 2SC, 1SC, 1SC, 1SC, 2SC continue until end of round

    Round 6-end: 1SC, 1SC, 1SC, 1SC continue until end of round

    Tie off; weave ends

  • I understand that Row 3 is 1 sc and then 2 sc (1-2-1-2-etc). Will someone explain to me what Row 4 and 5 is? I'm not quite following the instruction at this point. And after Row 5 are we to just do sc 1-1-1-1 all around till finishing? THANK YOU!

  • This was a very good video. i have watched a ton of beanie making videos. you describe VERY CLEARLY how to knit in the round for this beanie. thank you!

  • u are very good..! do u have any videos on how to make a chullo or peruvian hat..? n if u dont could u uplaod one so dat i can learn n make my own hat with my own patterns..???

  • Great video for people who already know how to crochet! I have been wanting to learn how to make a hat! Thanks.

  • Just what I needed! Thankyou!!!!!

  • I'm just one single crocheting in each stitch now! Its so quick and easy. I don't get how other people don't understand this video. This is the best video I got for these types of hats.

  • Thank you so much for posting!

  • nice hat...i can see that it could be made into a purse too...

  • Cool Hat!

  • wonderful!!! very helpful.can you make more vids on crochet or kniting if you know how to knit?Plz ^.^ =D :] =0 :) =d =b

    hehe!

    sweetipie21

  • what size hook do you use?

  • For hats? Usually an H.

  • ANY KIND

  • Omg thank you so much

i just couldnt get it before

  • so row 3-5 you do the same thing but you add 10 right

  • GOT IT! All mine were turning into the curve too fast, now i got it! Thanks!

  • it's a different way of starting a hat instead of doing dc or sc i thru the ring. The only thing that made it hard was u were going a lil fast which wouldnt matter so much but the fingers were in the way so i got a little lost.i liked the hat though

  • i get it...until the 3rd and 4th row...then i get's a bit confusing...

  • Thats a different way of starting a hat. After I sl st my ch I crochet 10-12 stitches going around the ring...as opposed to sc inside the sts. But good stuff!

  • i lve your video but i am confused when you do the third row.

  • how do you single crochet?

  • Hey, I did my best to help out. I think I managed to post a video response showing how to single crochet... well.. the way I understood it at least.

    Hope it helps...

  • Wow for some reason your examples seems a lot simpler than some of the others..

  • that was really good, i just started and im doing double yarn, but it gets to bunched up.. so im going to try single stitching, thanks a lot.

  • your very good at crochet

  • the top of my hat always comes out pointy....how can i keep it flat?

  • Thank you thank you thank you! I have not crocheted since I was a kid in the 1970's and am taking it up again, I REALLY needed this video! I was gonna start my hat from the bottom, thats how little I knew. lol! My hats coming along great!! thanks!

  • cool thanks

  • nice job thanks for the help. one word of advice though, try to go alittle slower on the single crochet stiches

  • I enjoyed it thank you very much for your help

  • nice video and nice hat, i can't wait to make one myself!

  • nice hat. mine are turning out to big. how do you make a little smaller?

  • you can change your hook size one size smaller.

  • thanx so much this was an awsome video it was so easy to follow and i have al ready made a hat and i just started yesterday thx!!

  • Wow! this video is great!

  • thanks

  • well i'm using a h hook but can you do triple crochet

  • this is the first method that is actually working for me. thanks.

  • Do you think hook size really matters? I am using a G hook (the only one I have) and it seems so small. I'd like to make this for my kids though. I tried adding extra stitches and then it didn't close right. Thanks again for the awesome video!

  • I have been watching videos on crochet all evening as I only know how to do blankets and had NO CLUE what the different stiches were called. THANK YOU as your video is so clear and easy to understand. Can I make a request? There are NO videos on how to do an infant/toddler hat. PLEASE? THANK YOU!!!!

  • to make a really small hat for like a toddler do the same thing but start with like 5 or 6 single stiches between double stitches

  • Actually I wanted to make this for a 9 year old and when following exact instructions with a G hook the hat top was too small for even my toddler's head - lol. Was hoping to figure out how to compensate for a smaller hook. THANK YOu for trying though.

  • I am left handed and was able to make this hat. Your instructions are very easy to follow. Thanks for posting this!

  • Very helpful, Thanks for putting this up.

  • I noticed you lose hold of the yarn a few times during this video and thought I'd leave a comment~

You shouldn't work the needle around as much as you do; in fact, it should be held with the hook down and fairly still~ My oma showed me that way, and it works a lot better! It's how they taught it in school back in the 40s~ XD Hope it helps!!

  • Heh, it's moving around so much because of the angle I'm holding the project at. I'm doing it with my arms wrapped around my camera & tripod ... it doesn't move that much when I'm crocheting normally.

    Thanks anyway!

  • Hi Thank u so much for your video...its great!

  • AAAHHH!!!

Freaking finally!! I am an avid crochet-er and have been looking to learn to do a hat and finally (!!!!) you were able to make sense of it.

    Thanks and good job!

  • Ahhh you're like a college professor explaining things too quickly for anyone to understand what's going on. You don't even show us how to do single and double stitches. You just pull them through quickly. Could you pleeeaaaase slow it down or give a tutorial on the types of stitches or something?

  • Gaaaah, this is NOT a how-to-crochet video! It's a tutorial on how to arrange the stitches for a beanie. If you'd like to learn how to crochet in general, I recommend looking at another how-to video on youtube.

Then, once you've done that, come back and this tutorial should be much easier to understand.

    ~m

  • goodness this video soooo helped me understand what the flip i was doing wrong! i still don't understand on the patterns on websites though, they tell you to keep adding the stitches, so instead of the five rows on the top like you have, i have.. uh... like 20! every pattern i've seen doesn't tell you to stop! so i ended up with a doily(sp?) thing... anywho, do you know if i can undo the entire thing and start over or will that stretch the yarn and ruin it? thanks a ton!

  • this was great thank u, but is there a way u could slow ur hand movements so that i can see what ur doing better.. thank u

  • Thanks! 5 stars! It is so much easier to watch a vid than to read written instructions!

  • great tutorial...thank you.

  • first of all... i wanted to say thank you, because the other crochet videos were hella complicated.

and second... it's called a beanie. haha. but ya THANKS AGAIN!!!

  • BEANIE. Thank you, that's been buggin' me since I posted the video!!!! XD <3

    ~mQ

  • this helped me a lot thanks

  • How would I make it decrease in size at the very bottom/edge of the hat, instead of going straight down, like a rasta hat?

  • Ah, for that you simply skip stitches. I'd start out skipping one every three and see if that's tightening it down enough. If not, try skipping every other one. Or, if that's tightening it down too much, try skipping every fourth or fifth.

    ~mQ

  • Thank you so much!

  • got it! thank you sooo much! i think i'm addicted to this! all i want for christmas is yarn!!! lol

  • hey thanx i figured it out ive made 3 so far and added on lil flowers they are so cute thank for you video do u think u can do one of a different stitch that would be so awesome thanx again!!!

  • yea i understand what ur saying and im sure i do all that , i think im lost at the third row, i know i add a single for every row i do but how many rows do i do after the third one before i start to go down and do the tube??

  • You should have a total of 50 stitches, so you'll do 5 full rounds before you start going down the tube.

    Make sense?

    ~m

  • nevermind! I figured it out and i crocheted my first..well ANYTHING! lol thanks :D

  • Yay! Congratulations!

    ~m

  • u think I could do it, not with yarn but with thread?

  • Probably, although it wouldn't be stretchy if it were made with thread. Also, it would need to have far more stitches, because the size of the yarn makes for the size of the hat.

    ~m

  • awesome!! this video is soo much better than trying to read directions on crochet websites

  • I'm glad it's helpful!

I could never make sense out of crochet websites either. =_=

    ~m

  • that was super helpful...thanks!!!

  • can someone help me lol... mine turn out small looks like a toddler hat lol i make the top as big as my hand i am i supposet to go single double single double , then single single double single single double im lost

  • It should be single crochet all the way. The single and double refers to how many stitches you do in a single loop. For normal back-and-forth (like if you're making a scarf) it's one stitch per loop. With this hat, you do two stitches in some loops, which will increase the total number of stitches, increasing the diameter of your circle. That will make it so you get a full-size hat rather than a toddler-size hat.

    Does that help?

    ~m

  • thanks

  • okay, now that I've got the basics, this exactly was helpful.

  • great! I am crocheting as I watch! Thanks.
