  • have you always had hydrocephalus.? when you were growing up in school did you have any problems? the only reason i ask is because my son is 6 months old. he was diagnosed 2 weeks after birth and had a shunt placed at a month old. his neurosurgeon said most people with hydrocephalus tend to have issues in school. but, i have never met anyone else who has been diagnosed so, i'm curious.

  • Hey there! Yes, I've always had it. I was born with it. Without going into too much detail, I got teased by the other children at school. But as I was growing up I learnt to deal with it.

I think most children get teased at some point in there lives. Finding a way to deal with it helps.

If you have anymore questions please send me a message. :)

  • @dylandior123 Thank you :))

  • You're very welcome.

  • Spelling mistake. I meant to put

  • Thankyou for your comment. :)

As always, please check with your doctor if you have any questions regarding your health.

Now since the Operation i can't do anything in this life how can i lose wieght ?

  • Any contact sports like soccer etc are not advisable. But it is best to check with your doctor.

    Swimmng is good. :)

Speak to your doctor. I wish you all the best. :)

  • Hey i was just wondering if its ok to drink alcohol just like any other person in college would want to do at a party but with a vp shunt?

  • I'm not 100% sure. It's always best to check with your doctor.

    Please check with your doctor.

    :)

  • Does the G force from the roller-coasters effect the shunt?

  • I'm not 100% sure but I was told it's best to avoid rollercoasters just in case you knock your shunt when experiencing a rollercoaster ride.

  • But as always please check with your doctor if you have any worries or concerns. :)

  • I think I kept repeating myself and took ages to get round to answering the question lol.

  • Like Dylan says, there's not really that many restriction. Just mainly contact sports. I had enquired about going on rollercoasters with my shunt and I was told it would be best not as you can get bashed around a lot with the over-head restaints.

As for drinking, take it from someone who often gets drunk to the point of having to crawl on the floor to get to the toilet to puke...drinking is okay with a shunt so long as your not taking extra medication that shouldnt be mixed with alcohol

  • Ah! I forgot about rollercoasters. It's because I don't go on them. I was told to avoid rollercoasters as well, just in case.

My limit is the train ride at Thomas Land. Or the teacups at fun fairs. Extreme stuff!!! hehe :-p

  • @dylandior123 Oooh you bad-ass you lol. I like the pirate ship and encouraging a screaming match between your side and the opposite side. Makes the ride so much more fun for everybody!

  • Pirate ship?

  • @dylandior123 You know pirate ship rides! It's literally just like a ship shaped ride and there's often two sides facing each other and it swings back and forth.

  • Oh god! I don't like those. :(

I avoid those as well. Anything like that with g force gives me headache.

Teacups and train rides are still my limit! lol.

Not keen on fast rides. I like the more gentler ones.

*Sits back on my wing-backed armchair, reading the Beano whilst sipping a cup of tea* hehe :-p

  • Very informative, and probably very helpful, to people who want to know the answers to there questions.

    Well done !

  • Thanks, Sam! :)

  • In my experiences I haven't come across too many things that my Hydrocephalus has stopped me from doing, boozing being one of them (then again, I'm not much of a drinker to begin with, 3 pints/bottles is usually my limit).

I agree that any type of contact sport is to be avoided, especially those where contact with the head could occur or is unavoidable. Stick with something safe.

  • Hey Gareth, 3 pints used to be my limit as well hehe.
