  • Compared to PInza he sounds like a girl.

  • @Ettoredipugnar Yeah? from their youtube Pinza just stood there and bellowed in Mary Martin's ear. But if that's what you like. Pinza had a great voice but was no actor and I don't find his rendition moving. And they had no chemistry. Paulo Szot's performance is of a piece, he doesn't stop being the unsure suitor to belt this out. That long touching note at the end sounds like longing....Szot and O'Hara are great singers, great actors and were magic together. This is the performance to beat.

  • Saw the show in November 2009. Paulo was fantastic. Unfortunately, Kelli couldn't be bothered to show up that evening and we saw her understudy who was OK. Is anyone as sick as I am of paying top dollar and seeing understudies?

  • @jakerson181 I saw the show in September 2009 -- from what I remember, O'Hara was on mat leave during that time. I personally loved Osmes' performance as Nellie -- I find her more attractive for the role (both visual and audio), but that's normally the case that you prefer whomever you saw/heard first.

  • @juju1981 No, O'Hara had been back for a while then from maternity leave. It was a regular performance and she simply didn't show. I wouldn't have minded seeing Osnes who took her place during her leave and wasn't billed as an understudy but rather in the starring role for that period of time. People knew they would be seeing Osnes and not O'Hara during that period when they bought their tickets. Not so in my case.

  • This isn't Twin Soliloquies, but still- how beautiful and touching. What a magical way to tell someone that you love them.

  • The piano is absolutely beautiful here. It pains me to think Kelli did not win the Tony award for her performance. If you listen to other recordings, Mary Martin, Dinah Shore, etc., none of them are quite as good as Kelli in this role.

And Patti LuPone, of course, was very good and won the Tony that year. But something about Kelli's touching performance, perfect comedic timing, and superb singing voice made her performance one of THE very best ever done on Broadway.

  • This is a great musical -- throw in the sound of music-the king and I and if you don't love musical theater and Rogers and Hammerstein, you are lifeless!

  • This is the ONLY show that has ever made me cry at the end. I was bawling by the end. I don't want to give the ending away but I was so happy and crying! This show is amazing!

  • Kelli and Paulo, you are amazing.

    gigi

  • Lovely, but this isn't "Twin Soliloquies."

  • What a voice and presence Paulo Szot has. I'd love to see him do the role with Carmen Cusack, who is in the touring company. The director of the revival called her the very best person he's ever seen in the role.

  • I did see it, Oct 2008. It was terrific. And Funny, I said the same thing after I saw it, that Kelli was born to play this part. She was fantastic-the whole cast was, but she sure did shine.

  • Keli and Paulo

    Vocês são maravilhosos

  • Love Kelli, love Paulo, love this show. I've seen it twice, and it was perfect both times. I have no words. Everything's just... perfect. <3

  • These two have beautiful voices!

  • Paulo is so delicious.

  • SImply gorgeous. Kelli was BORN to play this role. And Paulo sings -- and looks -- like a dream.

Oh I wish I'd been able to see this!!!

  • I think Kelli O'Hara did an excellent job singing, acting, and showed amazing visual, in her song with Paulo Szot, who did an excellent job as well. Kelli is amazing with her expressions and acting.

  • LOVE this! What is it that Kelli says after the lady says break it up...I can't make it out.
