  • You make good review's THX

  • Trolls feast on anything and everything good nowadays...

  • your the best video reviewer of dslr on the net, probably on the whole planet, unlike the corny asian guy from digital rev tryng to be cool.. your good at it.. you shouldnt doing this kind of job for free...

  • @UrgentUrge Thanks! Unfortunately the way online reviews work means that I have to give them away free and hope that some people visit cameralabs . com and either shop through my partner stores, donate or buy one of my photography books! It's basically a charity model which relies on goodwill. Not a fantastic business plan I can tell you.

  • keep up the videos, ill still watch.

  • i hate how the screen is angled.. because you cant have the lcd screen facing you to take a self portraid while seetting the camera down on a surface

  • @KaylaSaysRawwr I agree - and they changed it on the newer D5100, where the screen is now hinged at the side.

  • @cameralabs yeah i would love that camera but its a few hundred more

  • Keep it up bro, dont read that stupid comments we are tons of people in the world loving your job, gretts from México city ;)

  • @Ranametalera Thanks, I appreciate your words!

  • you are good.. Thanks

  • Thanks for this video review, very handy and with a lot of information :D

  • I'm personally not keen on the fully articulated screen although they are a great bonus i just think they are a little tacky. I love the advice you give though, these video's are really helpful for when buying a camera. When i bought my canon sx20is i watched a great deal of your videos to see what i could get for my money. I am now looking to upgrade to a budget nikon dslr and im finding your video's really helpful for choosing the camera that is right for me. :)

  • Is the D5000 better than the new D3100 ? I can get them for the same price.

  • lol douchebags are seriously commenting about someone's voice? get off yourself people

  • Thank you so much for your help!

  • concerning the negitive comments about anything other than the camera, you do know that it is very easy to set up your comments so that you can preview them and approve them before they are posted. maybe you do know this and mabe an issue with the volume of the comments and requiring too much time to sort through them? either way, this is a good review, just try not to 'muck it up' too much by responding to the idiots. it hurts the excellent quality of your review. Good day Sir.

  • I'm trying to sell my d5000 Nikon to help buy Another cam. Do u guys think $650 for the kit and a 55-200 lens (Nikon) is a good price it's on my eBay account under whome45 if u wanna check it out

  • Is the D5000 a good camera?

  • I thought it was pronouced, N(EYE)KON. . . not N(EUH)KON. . wierd.

    Thanks for the information!

  • @cameralabs Yo, the videos you post are amazing. Don't ever let the stupidity of some people to ever keep you from posting helpful videos. There are way more people that love your videos that idiots who like to give negative comments, so keep going because most of us really appreciate the videos you post which are very helpful. If you didn't know, there are Youtube users who sadly make it their lives to only give negative comments. Stay positive, and ignore the haters.Peace Love Happiness -Clark

  • @Xxsuperman115xX Thanks Clark, sometimes it's too easy to be upset by these people...

  • @cameralabs I find it funny that his real name is Clark (as in Clark Kent, aka Superman) and his user name is Superman. It amuses me.

  • @AmaToffee I don't sell things direct, but by shopping through those links at cameralabs I'll get a small commission, and that's what pays for the site and my work! Cheers! It also works for anything, clothes, movies, music!

  • @AmaToffee Congrats, I hope you like it! PS - don't forget you can support me by shopping for anything at the shops on the 'support us' page at cameralabs . com!

  • I really enjoyed the video

    good luck!

  • @AmaToffee For better audio you really need an external microphone - and of course a camera with a plug to connect it. The D5000 doesn't have a mic socket, but the D5100 and Canon 550D / T2i or 600D / T3i do have mic sockets. I'd reocmmend one of those, although they do cost more. Alernatively you can fit an external mic to something like a Panasonic Lumix FZ150. See all my reviews at cameralabs . com!

  • can you record videos?

  • my mum bought this for $1,200 AUD! looks cool

  • @cameralabs You shouldn't really have bothered to reply to djsybesma.

Keep up the good work, and thanks.

  • This is a fantastic video fro information thank you! :)

I have htis camera, but i still love looking up reviews of it! :p

Fantastic camera, and well recommended :)))

  • Hi! I'm looking to get a DSLR for the first time. One of my biggest hurdles is budget. I really don't want to go over 700$ if I don't absolutely have to. My needs are fairly simple. I do a lot of macro (which I understand is more in the lenses than the body), I would almost never do video, and I'm looking to grow in portraits. I want a manual focus. My P&S is a Canon SX120. I'm comparing this, the Canon 55D and the Canon 60D. Which one do you think would suit me best?

    P.S. I LOVE your videos!

  • Is thisGood to make YouTube videos? :3 I know it's a camera but I'm really just interested in the video.

  • d5000 or d3100????

  • hi i have a chance to buy one for 600.00 with 18-55 vr lens this a good deal

  • I really like this camera now! I was going to just get a fuji s3 for the sake of having worked on them but I really like this idiot proof one..(mainly cos im not a camera man so its helpful) THANK YOU for this review its great!

  • @djsybesma Here's a solution for you: if my voice is that offensive to you, simply stop watching my videos. Or better still, learn to be a little more polite and keep your comments to yourself. If I'm watching a video from someone who's giving me information free of charge and I don't like somehting personal about them, I keep it to myself and move on. It's comments like these which are the reason I rarely post new content on Youtube anymore.

  • @cameralabs you shudnt care about the unnecessary criticism Mr. Gordon. All you should be concerned about is people learning from your reviews and tutorials. I personally like your tutorials and have learned a lot

    thumbs up

  • @cameralabs well said bro, but please keep it coming.

  • @cameralabs i know how you feel about haters commenting on your videos but... you should know better that if you try to go against them you stoop down to their level.... if you know that they aren't worth your time then you should know that they are not worthy of your reply.... i really appreciate your work on youtube... what you stated was well said.... but try to controll your feelings.. :)) you are a very generous person for sharing your reviews... :)

  • @yobmas722 Thankyou! I do find it hard not to comment though!

  • @cameralabs i know hehe.. :) glad to see your back on youtube.

  • I wonder why don't the make cameras for people that write with left hand.

For me it's kinda hard to take pictures with cameras like this, feels a bit uncomfortable.

  • is this camera worth to buy today? i noticed its 2009 and a friend of mine wants me to buy his camera at $500 which the retail price is over $600..or just buy a better than D5000? with that budget range?

  • dude this camera is getting pulled off market, you can now get them brand new under 500, best buy, i got mine yesterday for 419 bucks!

  • @ergenec where from? I'm looking for best prices for this camera

  • I have it, I love it. Haters will be always hating since this camera will not be sold anymore, the focus is completely fine on both automatic and manual, you just need the brain.

  • Comment removed

  • I like my camera personally, and I don't take much video, nor do I really care to. So this camera works for me.

  • im so getting that camera

  • Hey guys, should i go with this or the Canon Rebel T1i as my first DSLR?!

  • I got one the last week, and i'm really dissapointed, I returned it to the store. I use the most manual focus, and things that through the viewfinder looks in focus actually arent so in focus, even the autofocus does the same error. Probably is due to the 18-55vr lens, but that error is not allowed since you pay 600 euros for a dslr. I had a sony a230 before, and the photographs from that camera are far, far better than this nikon.

PS: Waste of money and nervs.

  • I am trying to decide between this and the Pentax K-X. Does anyone have a recommendation :) ? Thanks in advance!

  • @SwimSwimSwimm kx uses 4 AA batteries which makes it pretty heavy but has great hd video in my opinion!

  • Should I get this, or the canon D550?

  • @09knucklez Try it to the store, and try one sony too, they're better. I've made the error to buy a nikon, waste of money. Sincerely. If you don't believe me I can send you some images taken with this nikon, so you se how bad they are. Buy a sony a33, or the canon.

PS: i'ts really important that you try the camera before you buy it, and remember that you hold the key, not the store, and not the seller. Take a dslr only if you are really convinced, 100%. And take a look to the sony dslrs.

  • @09knucklez Canon 550D is better, but more expensive..

  • @OFabioO yeah I bought the 550D in the end

  • so it doesnt auto focus on video?

  • JUST GOT ONE BRAND NEW FROM MY FRIEND'S PAWNSHOP 190$ BRAND NEW SEALD!!!!! BELIVE IT OR NOT THUMBS UP!

  • cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org

I got very professional time-lapse videos with camera! cool sunset videos!

  • @qRoMz d3100 has better video mode, if u want video take d3100. A week ago i bought d5000, but video isn't my priority :)

  • @qRoMz Get a camcorder if you are going to be mainly shooting videos, camcorders are specifically designed to take videos, dslrs are designed to take pictures, the video modes on dslrs are not meant for serious video shooting.

  • so wait! this camera doesn't AF with the lens it comes with?

  • @carrascodaniel5 No, it just doesn't auto-focus in video mode, when your taking pictures, it auto-focuses perfectly.

  • :o

  • Comment removed

  • wowww!i love the this camera :)! Do you know you can make Time Lapse Photography with this camera?

These guys have an infrared remote time-lapse device for all cameras: tempusALL.bymac.org

    sweet!! :P

  • I know that I'm getting one for my birthday in August (mom sucks at whispering)

and I'm SOOOO EXCITED! I HAVE WANTED ONE EVER SINCE IT CAME OUT!

The yearbook teacher has one and one of my friends has one... it takes AMAZING PICTURES.

    I can't wait!

  • Good for photos ? im getting a fisheye with this camera :)

  • this is totally no match for my 5DM2 and 7D... Canon !!!!!

  • @97552555 The 7D costs twice as much!

  • @ToastyFishFins O.o really? Haha! but 7D is much better..

  • @97552555 For that price it better be! lol

  • should i get this camera or the canon t2i ?

  • @imagronuragro nikon=performance,canon=design

    If that can help..

  • how can i change the resolution for video recording?

i can only record at 640x424 resolution with my nikon D5000. how can i change it to 720p?

  • it's better if you buy camcorder or realy camera for filming, and DSLR for taking picture..:D

  • DO NOT BUY THIS FOR FILMING, i got one.

  • @Ossy070 Why, is it because of the auto focus noise ????

  • @snabilrizvi no, it does not film nice man. you see black and white things on a white wall. the whitebalance is playing around. fucked up. you can buy a canon 550D, thats better.

  • The auto focus took literally 1 second lol :P

  • 44 people only watched this video after throwing their money away buying any other crap cam..... Nikon rules

  • loved the review awsome

  • For filming its better to buy a camcorder or one of this?

  • d5000 or d3100?

  • @IWnaturally d3100 is more beginner friendly and has hd video, but very little difference otherwise

  • @IWnaturally Unless you want the 3" LCD I say the D5000. Its image quality is the same or very close, and it has more features. You can choose your JPEG quality-size in RAW mode, it has bracketing, ISO is in the viewfinder, and it has viewfinder gridlines. It also works with the wireless ML-L3 remote.

  • @IWnaturally

    d5000 :)

  • I got a T3i yesterday (for father's day), and I'll buy this one for my father today. Gonna check the differences !

  • this or t1i

  • this or the t3? (not t3i)

  • Hi Gordon,

A brilliant video review my friend, and your site is stunningly detailed and proffesional.

Both these free resources have helped me decide on my firt DSLR. I am now the happy owner of the Nikon D5000. Many thanks for your kind advice, I will subscribe to your channel and follow your website as I'm sure they will invaluable in my journey with this camera.

My work can now be photographed professionally.

    Kind regards,

    moodwood.co.uk

  • can this camera zoom while taking videos?

  • @xxlollipop999 yea.

  • @xxlollipop999 only manualy

  • excuse me, could anyone tell me if this camera has a manual exposure mode? or anyway of keeping the shutter open for night photography and that kind of stuff. please and thank you :)

  • Can you change the frames per second in video mode?

  • I would like a camera with the following:-

    -image stabilization

    -extended dynamic range

    -dust control

    -colour control

    -live view

    -compatible with Macro lenses

I really like landscape and macro photography. Would you say that this would be the camera for me or is there any other suggestions you would say is better for what i am looking for?

    Thanks :)

  • I ordered mine yesterday and it came this afternoon. I got two lenses with the deal I got. My new toy :))

  • @cameralabs what kind of effects does it have? And by effects i mean black and white ,sepia, negative or ones like those does it have any?

  • D5000 or Canon 550D?

  • يالبى ابو صلعه

  • i like your accent. make me focus to the review more. i don't focus on what people said much (:

  • hi, i want to buy an DSLR but i'm a beginner at cameras, i need help witch one should i buy?

  • @thevoodooboss It all depends on your needs. Do you mostly outdoor stuff or indoor. With indoor you need a camera that has a good ISO performance. But I tell all my students, quality lens is very important. You get to keep your lens for a long time. The camera body gets upgraded every couple of years. What is your budget for the camera?

  • @PhotographersOnUTube i'm kinda both, indoors and out doors but mostly out doors. my budget is going to be around 800?

  • @thevoodooboss I would go with D3100 since it's slightly cheaper than D5000. With D5000 you'll have no room to purchase a bounce flash. Without a bounce flash you can't take decent pictures indoor. The on board pop up flash is useless as it creates harsh shadows. You could go for a 3rd party flash. Vivitar makes flash for Nikon. You could pick that up for half the price. But it's very important that you ad bounce flash in the list. Tomorrow I'll do a new video on pop up flash vs bounce flash.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube how much it would cost me to buy that with bounce flash? i dont actually look at the view of the price, i just want a camera that fits with my style you know what i mean?

  • Is this better than Sony A580? They cost about the same.

  • @OGRMaster Go with either Nikon or Canon as they're a lot of 3rd party products you can use in case you're tight on the budget.

  • awesome camera!

  • THIS CAMERA IS BIGGER THAN YOUR HEAD...

  • uummm when i clicked on this an add came up and it was a mexican superhero whith a fone in his hands laying on a green screen pad and he was flying while talking about saveings at this one store

  • I have just placed an order with Jessops for a d5000, at £499 it also comes with not only an 18 - 55mm lenses, but also 55 - 200mm lenses, as its my first dslr, wondering if i would really need to spend that much considering amazon has it with 18-55mm lenses for £464 ?

  • HELP ME Please which one is better? Nikon D5000 or Nikon D3100?

    please help

  • @littlenikki24 d3100 is actually the new model but it doesnt mean the d5000 isn't good dslr. i tell u what. if u're beginner better for u to take the d3100 because it have the guide mode. and it's really help. though d5000 is a bit complicated. btw, they both almost got the same function. try to open the nikon website to compare these product. good luck :) (i've got d3100 for my birthday and d5000 for my brother . and like i said. there's no big different between them both)

  • this or the Canon EOS 500D?

  • Hey, I was planning to buy my first DSLR. Which one should I go for Nikon D5000 or Nikon D3100?

  • Buying this cam tomorrow for $348 at retail store, can't wait looks great only problem is I have a Sony alpha 330 as well anyone wanting to it let me know. Selling it for $370 great condition.

  • @whome452 where did you buy it for 348?

  • What is better for filming, Canon Rebel T2i or Nikon D5000?

  • Need you opinion... you had done a review on nikon d5000. if im getting d5000 for the same price as d3100 should i go for d5000 or d3100? For me priority is low light performance and do you think metering and bracketing is all that important. Im leaning towards d5000 even though everywhere i go d3100 is being recommended. I wanna know how it performs in-terms of low light i was quiet satisfied with my friends d90 low light performance and d5000 has the same sensor so im expecting it to be same.

  • hey i was wondering id u can help me, i just got the d5000 but everytime i try to take a pic, it comes out black and gives me an error message can u help plz

  • how much time does the video record? I read it records only 5 minutes because of a sensor thing. But can I film 5 minutes and then 5 minutes again, and so on?

  • can someone tell me which one is better the D5000 or the D3100?? I'm buying a camera next week and i really wanna get the right one. Cameralabs, what do you think?

    Aaron!

  • Thankyou very much for all your videos, they are so full of information. I do photography as a hobby, I live in sydney, after a thorough research I m still confused between canon 450d, canon 40d, Nikon d3100 and Nikon d5000 ... I just cant be sure about what to buy, I usually do landscape photography ... The only reason i'd ever choose Canon 40d is because of its 6.5fps speed (to shoot sports action). But i could sacrifice this over batter picture quality ..... I m confused, help please :o

  • I've never owned a DSLR before.

    Should I buy a Nikon D90 or a Nikon D5000?

  • Thanks for the review Gordon, really informative and comprehensive. It was because of watching this review that made me decide to buy myself a D5000 and I love it. Keep up the good work!

  • pls make a review for d3100........

  • nikon d5000 or canon 500d??? please, help,

  • d5000 or d3100??

  • can you put a fish eye lens on this camera? please answer it will be very appriciated

  • @makeupbynikoo12 it has an eyefish property , u dont need an extra eyefish lens

  • @ecevizci fisheye* and the fisheye retouch on the d5000 is absolutely terrible. definately get a fisheye lens.

  • can't decide between the d3000 and the d5000, if you had to choose which would you buy? i like the price of the d3000 but i'd really like the hd movie mode of the d5000.

  • @itsmebethanyy Choose between the D3100 and the 5000.. For me I would probably choose the D5000..

  • @itsmebethanyy D5000 defonately, i dont have it but i think it would be better!

  • What is the biggest lens that fits on this camera? (biggest zoom) i'm a bit new to this, is there only one brand of lenses for nikon?

I got this camera with 2 lenses, the 18-55 and the 55-200. tnx great vid

  • What would you recommend for a beginner? I dont know much about camera's and various options they got. So help would be appreciated. I got my eye on the Canon 500d, but i also like the flipping out screen "thingy" on this one. I also got a glimpse on the Nikon d90, although if it doesn't have any significant improvements i wouldn't wanna get it as it is considerably more expensive. The Cannon one is about 200++$ more expensive then Nikon d5000. I also like things getting done fast..

  • @kadx So it has to work fast, with menu's (loading?) focusing and shooting images fast (very annoying with when you dont catch "that moment)

As i understand there is a difference while focusing in live mode and manual (duh -.-) So if anyone could help me with this il give you 10 thanks:)

(youtube wont let me write 1000 thanks)

  • I have a problem with my video mode, when I zoom in I find like particles moving even when I zoom out... it doesn't look HD to me.

Does the video differs between night & day?

    Thanks,

  • @nugundamof00 you can take pictures with fine quality which has great settings and you can set the file size to small then you can take up to 2k pics with an empty 4gb sd card

  • Hi-ya! I am thinking of buying this camera, but it is very importaint for me, that the camera I buy is good for taking close up shots of documents as I am a historian and work alot in the archives. Nobody knows how to answer my question, weather this camera can also offer good, clear close up shots of written documents. Can you? I can only assume that with the auto-focusing feature I have nothing to worry about. Thank you for helping!

  • Hey im looking for a little bit of advise from anyone willing to lend me a hand...i am looking at buying my first dslr within the next month (but have had a little experience with them in the past) and have been searching for a long time for one that i think i am interested in...i have narrowed it down to 2 and was wondering if you could help me decide between the Nikon D5000 or the Nikon D3100?? any help is greatly appreciated :-) thanks
