your the best video reviewer of dslr on the net, probably on the whole planet, unlike the corny asian guy from digital rev tryng to be cool.. your good at it.. you shouldnt doing this kind of job for free...
@UrgentUrge Thanks! Unfortunately the way online reviews work means that I have to give them away free and hope that some people visit cameralabs . com and either shop through my partner stores, donate or buy one of my photography books! It's basically a charity model which relies on goodwill. Not a fantastic business plan I can tell you.
I'm personally not keen on the fully articulated screen although they are a great bonus i just think they are a little tacky. I love the advice you give though, these video's are really helpful for when buying a camera. When i bought my canon sx20is i watched a great deal of your videos to see what i could get for my money. I am now looking to upgrade to a budget nikon dslr and im finding your video's really helpful for choosing the camera that is right for me. :)
concerning the negitive comments about anything other than the camera, you do know that it is very easy to set up your comments so that you can preview them and approve them before they are posted. maybe you do know this and mabe an issue with the volume of the comments and requiring too much time to sort through them? either way, this is a good review, just try not to 'muck it up' too much by responding to the idiots. it hurts the excellent quality of your review. Good day Sir.
I'm trying to sell my d5000 Nikon to help buy Another cam. Do u guys think $650 for the kit and a 55-200 lens (Nikon) is a good price it's on my eBay account under whome45 if u wanna check it out

@AmaToffee For better audio you really need an external microphone - and of course a camera with a plug to connect it. The D5000 doesn't have a mic socket, but the D5100 and Canon 550D / T2i or 600D / T3i do have mic sockets. I'd reocmmend one of those, although they do cost more. Alernatively you can fit an external mic to something like a Panasonic Lumix FZ150. See all my reviews at cameralabs . com!
Hi! I'm looking to get a DSLR for the first time. One of my biggest hurdles is budget. I really don't want to go over 700$ if I don't absolutely have to. My needs are fairly simple. I do a lot of macro (which I understand is more in the lenses than the body), I would almost never do video, and I'm looking to grow in portraits. I want a manual focus. My P&S is a Canon SX120. I'm comparing this, the Canon 55D and the Canon 60D. Which one do you think would suit me best?

is this camera worth to buy today? i noticed its 2009 and a friend of mine wants me to buy his camera at $500 which the retail price is over $600..or just buy a better than D5000? with that budget range?
I have it, I love it. Haters will be always hating since this camera will not be sold anymore, the focus is completely fine on both automatic and manual, you just need the brain.
I got one the last week, and i'm really dissapointed, I returned it to the store. I use the most manual focus, and things that through the viewfinder looks in focus actually arent so in focus, even the autofocus does the same error. Probably is due to the 18-55vr lens, but that error is not allowed since you pay 600 euros for a dslr. I had a sony a230 before, and the photographs from that camera are far, far better than this nikon.
@09knucklez Try it to the store, and try one sony too, they're better. I've made the error to buy a nikon, waste of money. Sincerely. If you don't believe me I can send you some images taken with this nikon, so you se how bad they are. Buy a sony a33, or the canon.
PS: i'ts really important that you try the camera before you buy it, and remember that you hold the key, not the store, and not the seller. Take a dslr only if you are really convinced, 100%. And take a look to the sony dslrs.
@qRoMz Get a camcorder if you are going to be mainly shooting videos, camcorders are specifically designed to take videos, dslrs are designed to take pictures, the video modes on dslrs are not meant for serious video shooting.
@snabilrizvi no, it does not film nice man. you see black and white things on a white wall. the whitebalance is playing around. fucked up. you can buy a canon 550D, thats better.
@IWnaturally Unless you want the 3" LCD I say the D5000. Its image quality is the same or very close, and it has more features. You can choose your JPEG quality-size in RAW mode, it has bracketing, ISO is in the viewfinder, and it has viewfinder gridlines. It also works with the wireless ML-L3 remote.

Both these free resources have helped me decide on my firt DSLR. I am now the happy owner of the Nikon D5000. Many thanks for your kind advice, I will subscribe to your channel and follow your website as I'm sure they will invaluable in my journey with this camera.
excuse me, could anyone tell me if this camera has a manual exposure mode? or anyway of keeping the shutter open for night photography and that kind of stuff. please and thank you :)
I really like landscape and macro photography. Would you say that this would be the camera for me or is there any other suggestions you would say is better for what i am looking for?
@thevoodooboss It all depends on your needs. Do you mostly outdoor stuff or indoor. With indoor you need a camera that has a good ISO performance. But I tell all my students, quality lens is very important. You get to keep your lens for a long time. The camera body gets upgraded every couple of years. What is your budget for the camera?
@thevoodooboss I would go with D3100 since it's slightly cheaper than D5000. With D5000 you'll have no room to purchase a bounce flash. Without a bounce flash you can't take decent pictures indoor. The on board pop up flash is useless as it creates harsh shadows. You could go for a 3rd party flash. Vivitar makes flash for Nikon. You could pick that up for half the price. But it's very important that you ad bounce flash in the list. Tomorrow I'll do a new video on pop up flash vs bounce flash.
@PhotographersOnUTube how much it would cost me to buy that with bounce flash? i dont actually look at the view of the price, i just want a camera that fits with my style you know what i mean?
i believe this space between what is semi professional and pro is smaller nowadays. d7000 is all everyone want, visit... freedslr . cong change ng with m and acquire a zero cost d7000
uummm when i clicked on this an add came up and it was a mexican superhero whith a fone in his hands laying on a green screen pad and he was flying while talking about saveings at this one store
I have just placed an order with Jessops for a d5000, at £499 it also comes with not only an 18 - 55mm lenses, but also 55 - 200mm lenses, as its my first dslr, wondering if i would really need to spend that much considering amazon has it with 18-55mm lenses for £464 ?
@littlenikki24 d3100 is actually the new model but it doesnt mean the d5000 isn't good dslr. i tell u what. if u're beginner better for u to take the d3100 because it have the guide mode. and it's really help. though d5000 is a bit complicated. btw, they both almost got the same function. try to open the nikon website to compare these product. good luck :) (i've got d3100 for my birthday and d5000 for my brother . and like i said. there's no big different between them both)
Buying this cam tomorrow for $348 at retail store, can't wait looks great only problem is I have a Sony alpha 330 as well anyone wanting to it let me know. Selling it for $370 great condition.
Need you opinion... you had done a review on nikon d5000. if im getting d5000 for the same price as d3100 should i go for d5000 or d3100? For me priority is low light performance and do you think metering and bracketing is all that important. Im leaning towards d5000 even though everywhere i go d3100 is being recommended. I wanna know how it performs in-terms of low light i was quiet satisfied with my friends d90 low light performance and d5000 has the same sensor so im expecting it to be same.
hey i was wondering id u can help me, i just got the d5000 but everytime i try to take a pic, it comes out black and gives me an error message can u help plz
hey i was wondering id u can help me, i just got the d5000 but everytime i try to take a pic, it comes out black and gives me an error message can u help plz
how much time does the video record? I read it records only 5 minutes because of a sensor thing. But can I film 5 minutes and then 5 minutes again, and so on?
can someone tell me which one is better the D5000 or the D3100?? I'm buying a camera next week and i really wanna get the right one. Cameralabs, what do you think?
Thankyou very much for all your videos, they are so full of information. I do photography as a hobby, I live in sydney, after a thorough research I m still confused between canon 450d, canon 40d, Nikon d3100 and Nikon d5000 ... I just cant be sure about what to buy, I usually do landscape photography ... The only reason i'd ever choose Canon 40d is because of its 6.5fps speed (to shoot sports action). But i could sacrifice this over batter picture quality ..... I m confused, help please :o
Thanks for the review Gordon, really informative and comprehensive. It was because of watching this review that made me decide to buy myself a D5000 and I love it. Keep up the good work!
can't decide between the d3000 and the d5000, if you had to choose which would you buy? i like the price of the d3000 but i'd really like the hd movie mode of the d5000.
What would you recommend for a beginner? I dont know much about camera's and various options they got. So help would be appreciated. I got my eye on the Canon 500d, but i also like the flipping out screen "thingy" on this one. I also got a glimpse on the Nikon d90, although if it doesn't have any significant improvements i wouldn't wanna get it as it is considerably more expensive. The Cannon one is about 200++$ more expensive then Nikon d5000. I also like things getting done fast..
@nugundamof00 you can take pictures with fine quality which has great settings and you can set the file size to small then you can take up to 2k pics with an empty 4gb sd card
Hi-ya! I am thinking of buying this camera, but it is very importaint for me, that the camera I buy is good for taking close up shots of documents as I am a historian and work alot in the archives. Nobody knows how to answer my question, weather this camera can also offer good, clear close up shots of written documents. Can you? I can only assume that with the auto-focusing feature I have nothing to worry about. Thank you for helping!
Hey im looking for a little bit of advise from anyone willing to lend me a hand...i am looking at buying my first dslr within the next month (but have had a little experience with them in the past) and have been searching for a long time for one that i think i am interested in...i have narrowed it down to 2 and was wondering if you could help me decide between the Nikon D5000 or the Nikon D3100?? any help is greatly appreciated :-) thanks

-image stabilization
-extended dynamic range
-dust control
-colour control
-live view
-compatible with Macro lenses
I really like landscape and macro photography. Would you say that this would be the camera for me or is there any other suggestions you would say is better for what i am looking for?
Thanks :)

hi, i want to buy an DSLR but i'm a beginner at cameras, i need help witch one should i buy?
thevoodooboss 11 months ago
@thevoodooboss It all depends on your needs. Do you mostly outdoor stuff or indoor. With indoor you need a camera that has a good ISO performance. But I tell all my students, quality lens is very important. You get to keep your lens for a long time. The camera body gets upgraded every couple of years. What is your budget for the camera?
PhotographersOnUTube 11 months ago
@PhotographersOnUTube i'm kinda both, indoors and out doors but mostly out doors. my budget is going to be around 800?
thevoodooboss 11 months ago
@thevoodooboss I would go with D3100 since it's slightly cheaper than D5000. With D5000 you'll have no room to purchase a bounce flash. Without a bounce flash you can't take decent pictures indoor. The on board pop up flash is useless as it creates harsh shadows. You could go for a 3rd party flash. Vivitar makes flash for Nikon. You could pick that up for half the price. But it's very important that you ad bounce flash in the list. Tomorrow I'll do a new video on pop up flash vs bounce flash.
PhotographersOnUTube 11 months ago
@PhotographersOnUTube how much it would cost me to buy that with bounce flash? i dont actually look at the view of the price, i just want a camera that fits with my style you know what i mean?
thevoodooboss 11 months ago
Is this better than Sony A580? They cost about the same.
OGRMaster 11 months ago
@OGRMaster Go with either Nikon or Canon as they're a lot of 3rd party products you can use in case you're tight on the budget.

HELP ME Please which one is better? Nikon D5000 or Nikon D3100?
please help
littlenikki24 1 year ago
@littlenikki24 d3100 is actually the new model but it doesnt mean the d5000 isn't good dslr. i tell u what. if u're beginner better for u to take the d3100 because it have the guide mode. and it's really help. though d5000 is a bit complicated. btw, they both almost got the same function. try to open the nikon website to compare these product. good luck :) (i've got d3100 for my birthday and d5000 for my brother . and like i said. there's no big different between them both)

I wanna know how it performs in-terms of low light i was quiet satisfied with my friends d90 low light performance and d5000 has the same sensor so im expecting it to be same.

how much time does the video record? I read it records only 5 minutes because of a sensor thing. But can I film 5 minutes and then 5 minutes again, and so on?

Thankyou very much for all your videos, they are so full of information. I do photography as a hobby, I live in sydney, after a thorough research I m still confused between canon 450d, canon 40d, Nikon d3100 and Nikon d5000 ... I just cant be sure about what to buy, I usually do landscape photography ... The only reason i'd ever choose Canon 40d is because of its 6.5fps speed (to shoot sports action). But i could sacrifice this over batter picture quality ..... I m confused, help please :o

I also like things getting done fast..
kadx 1 year ago
@kadx So it has to work fast, with menu's (loading?) focusing and shooting images fast (very annoying with when you dont catch "that moment)
As i understand there is a difference while focusing in live mode and manual (duh -.-) So if anyone could help me with this il give you 10 thanks:)
(youtube wont let me write 1000 thanks)

I have a problem with my video mode, when I zoom in I find like particles moving even when I zoom out... it doesn't look HD to me.
Does the video differs between night & day?
Thanks,

@cameralabs Hi Gordon,
After checking most of your videos, and most of the reviews on you site, there is something that I always needed to know but failed to get, which is:
How do you decide whether a DSLR is entry level or higher-entry level,or mid-range, or semi-pro?
I mean you get a new DSLR one day named dXXXX whatever, how do you know in which category it should fall?
Thanks.
