You can eat Amanita Muscaria, As long as you dry them because the Ibotenic Acid (the poison) converts into Muscimal (the active ingredient) throughout the drying process.
@sweetenedicedtea well your sort of right and wrong Ibotenic Acid is a poison its really really bad and it does change to Muscimal in heat and drying but that is also slightly poisonousness and highly psycoactive so unless you want to trip very very hard i wouldnt try it>>>the best way it to boil them in lots of water to leach out the toxins
@TheWhatz30 Why the need for the profanity. Thanks for making yourself a part of the amorality of America and the break down of society. It's your right to say what you want but manners and civility need a resurgence for our society to survive.
@MrRiceowlex im not using imorality im using words. adding passion and exitement to my words. you know, more alive? Plus i was high as shit, like i am now, so it did look fucking good, that shit looks amazing. haha.
@MrRiceowlex "profanity" is a joke. go watch the Penn and Teller episode about it. Words like "darn" and "shoot" used to be profane once, I'm sure you use words that were once considered profane. If it was bad to say those ones then but not now then why is it bad to say fuck now? Its simply because your buying into the idea that these are "bad words" without any real proof. Saying shit doesn't make me want to rob or kill someone, it makes me think your angry, or about poop. Think about it.
Goddamn mushroom propaganda from 5:17-5:45, the only true thing he said was that the "destroying angel" was very deadly, all the stuff about amanitas is false. You can eat them and you will become very nauseous that is all. If it is dried you can use it like a drug and too much will damage your liver and MAYBE kill you, few if any people have died from it, unlike alcohol or cigarettes.
@TrangertoR In ALL statistics alcohol and tobacco kill more people then mushroom poisonings of ANY kind, even the known deadly ones.
Also doctors, cars, prescription drugs, pain killers and many other things kill more people then these mushrooms are even rumored to.
In fact I have heard reports of people dying from forcing themselves to drink to much water, and I have never actually seen or heard second hand of someone dying from Amanita Muscaria, only misidentified mushrooms.
When even taking gill prints fails to identify the mushroom, I stopped trying to pick mushrooms on my own. The worst are the maggot bombs, where a cap explodes and hundreds of wriggling monsters spray everywhere.
Nice video. As a mushroom picker myself, I can't stress enough to the novice that you have to be 100 percent sure of what you are picking if you plan on eating it or feeding it to others. The penalty for failure is just too extreme to make a mistake. There are many shrooms out there, maybe in your own front yard, that will kill you if you ingest them.
Amanita muscaria are not poisonous... I eat them all the time... They might make you chuck up but after that you is in dream world mate!!! Its like getting drunk but doing the sick bit first.. They are great because they are so easily identified and the red skin is good to dry and smoke..
They are considered both poisonous and psychoactive though recorded deaths from this mushroom is rare. There are other Amanitas that are extremely dangerous and deadly though.
@Stink808 I agree that they have been classified as poisonous. Aminita Phalloides and Aminita Virosa are the ones you mean... Death cap and destroying angel.. WOuldnt go near them but Aminita Muscaria is so easily identified especially when the warts are still attached.. Mushrooms from the Aminita strain should be the first you learn really! Nice one
Be careful. Some are poisonous, and nearly indistinguishable from the edible mushrooms. You need to be a trained mycologist before you can safely pick mushrooms.
Also, depending on the country you live in, it might be illegal.
the illegal part makes it funner, i live in australia and i go hunting everyweek in the summer gay thing is we only find ours in cow shit if you found it in the woods its most likley poisonous
thanks freqazoidiac for that lovely comment. we cashed in to the tune of exactly nothing making this film. we are knobbys, though, you're right about that much. x
Amanitas are not highly poisonous, it would take allot even if uncooked to cause mortality of course i dont recommend it. Ive even drunk fluid collected in one at the grail stage of development, i cook them though and they make you feel enchanted : )
No but of course some peoples constituion will be better suited at dealing with the toxic substances in the mushroom, be careful they can apparently make you nauseuous and im sure a high enough dose could be fatal toxic is poison.
there was only 1, possibly 2 REAL porcinis in the video. the others looked like another edible bolete that grows here in the US aswell. The very one i know was a porcini was the one she questioned and called dodgy.
It is best to separate all different looking mushrooms in different baskets because pieces or liquids can be transferred from toxic mushrooms to edible mushrooms.
Also, I loved to see them using knives to cut, rather than pull and rip them out, because this keeps it from harming the fungus that created the mushroom and it is the first time I have seen anyone do this. I don't know if it is true, but I heard if you don't cut them, you can end up destroying the entire picking field.
jesus they don't know if they're edible or hallucinogenic or poisonous. They're like "we'll look it up when we get back," and every site that helps identify shrooms says that thousands of species look the same and can be poisonous, etc. so don't use the site if you're planning on eating them. And these people are serving them up.
I know it look like we're crazy but actually although we collected lots of different types (some poisonous - some possibly hallucinogenic), the only ones we ate were ones that Mama Irene cleared. Now I know that she's no foolproof - but she has been picking and cooking these types of shroom for over 50 years - so short of getting each one tested at a lab, I reckon she's the best safeguard! TAKE AN EXPERT - DON'T EAT IF YOU'RE NOT SURE. Thanks for the comment! David and Ashley (filmmakers)
The bad boy at 2.50 is a very naughty boy, Brown Roll Rim I do believe, look really tasty but are very poisonous. why do you dry them, wet them squeeze them, milk them, and squeeze them again before cooking? I know a lil bout mushrooms but not this particular one. Ta for vid.
you can't cut mushrooms. you must pick up and after wash it with knife!!
if you cut the foot of mushroom, you damn the mycelium, so no mushrooms!

no one has found a way to grow Amanita's unnaturally ,as they need a host tree to live in symbiosis.
