  • I'd fuck that prick with my goo

  • There are two types of people in this world. Those who are and those who are not.

  • @romanpr1nce There are 2 types of people: those who divide people into two types, and the gooey kind. lol

  • I love Alan Watts! I've actually seen this clip a few times but it never gets old!

  • Prickles and Goo, formerly Apollo and Dionysus.

  • Compare this with my video Science Beyond Reductionism (google for this title) . It starts slowly... Skip ahead or stay with it.

  • Adorable. Love it.

  • dude...i get it. I'm you!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *face melter* DX

  • There are two types of people in this world - those who divide the world into two types and those who don't.

  • prickly goos/gooey prickles are where its at.

  • We need more GOO'ey Civil Servants

  • I prick

  • @jffryh lol were okay with being pricks then?

  • @skinlesscougar Maybe not entirely happy.

  • "The morning glory which blooms for an hour differs not at heart from the giant pine, which lives for a thousand years."

    — Alan Wilson Watts

  • Kids, ignore those Science People, they're just being all "prickly". Here, you've got koolaid on your chin...

  • Left-brain dominant and right-brain dominant people...

  • where can i find the music from the beginning, eh?

  • @seigneurvoland666 have u found the music at the beginning?

  • @cool2t no! but tell me if u find it

  • @seigneurvoland666 yh i will

  • do the creators of south park really believe in buddhism? I thought they were agnostic libertarians?

  • @smoothy883 I wouldn't really call this buddhism. Nor would I call Alan one, and he hardly would have done so himself. He based a lot of his teachings on eastern philosophy, however, but I think an equal amount was simply his own understanding of things.

  • @smoothy883

I don't think they actually made this, their names aren't in the credits, I think it's just in their style of animation

  • Holy crap! Nice!!!

  • This is the best thing ever.

  • ima goo

  • Matt Stone and Trey Parker, 2 men after my own heart.

  • you can hear matt and trey laughing in the background

  • As an INTJ with an inner ENFP side, I have to say this is a work of absolute genius and I can completely relate to it.

Note: Prickle was always my favorite 'Gumby' character. XD

  • This bashing of intellectual rigor is from a gooey man himself. a mystic. Basically prickly ppl are objectivists who dont believe in superstition and gooey ppl are subjectivist like priests and god worshipers. Alan watts does this sly way of dismantling those who dont lie about what they know by taking this aerial view of both of them and saying neither are particularly right...

  • @TheGodofAtheists Said just like a prickle ;-)

Rigor is great and should be pushed to its limits. But the fuzzy, whimsical view of the world will always be of value because it find things the the rigorous approach overlooks.

I am reminded of what Ray Bradbury said of writers block. Writers block is the confusion of the process of creation with critique. Both approaches have value.

  • this is what subjectivism do. ~mystics~ people who make up conclusions with out any evidence and assert opinions as fact.

  • @TheGodofAtheists And now I am reminded of what Joseph Campbell said of God. God is a metaphor for that which is beyond words. The religious make the mistake of confusing the metaphor with fact and the atheists make the mistake of confusing the metaphor with a lie.

When you come across something that is meaningful and sensible to a lot of people, but meaningless and senseless to you, it is a mistake to assume that the error lies in everyone else. try to find out what makes sense.

  • @michalchik Yeah, too bad thats pure bullshit. The amount of people who believe in something has no effect on the truth

  • @TheGodofAtheists No you misunderstand what i say in two ways. First I did not say popularity is an argument for truth, but it is a warning that you should look carefully for value. You may be right and many may be wrong, but that is a bad assumption.

Second I was referring to the merit of something not its truth. For example, You may not see any truth in community rituals worshiping some god, but even if the god is untrue, perhaps people do it for the value of the ritual or community

  • @michalchik Alan watts comes off like he see's beyond this little quarrel to a new more erudite and esoteric point of view, but truly its nothing more than a subjectivist point of view. What he does is very misleading, just wanted to point that out before you think hes a genius and spend a lot of time listening to him just to come up empty handed like I have. Just a friendly warning, thats all.

  • @TheGodofAtheists Alan Watts is not a sage, he is a puck. I do not expect from him anything more than provocation the way many good artists do. Nevertheless, this is valuable to me.

  • @michalchik Dont get me wrong Alan watts has some interesting things to say, but all I was pointing out was that he's a subjectivist. And in this video he describes the ongoing battle between Objectivists i.e. scientists vs. Subjectivists i.e. priests, charlatans, liars.

  • @TheGodofAtheists Hmmm... When I was listening I wasn't thinking of priests and scientists I was thinking about artists and scientists though I would include mysticism as a form of art.

I don't think priests contribute much to the creative process of our society. At least not modern ones. Their main value (when they have value) is in building communities of support and getting the common man to think about something big than his own life, once in a while.

  • @TheGodofAtheists what you call subjectivists and objectivists are just by products of the point. Baron-Cohen (the psychologist) systemising empathising theory on autism and gender, would be a better way to explain this concept to your prickily little head; some people think in terms somplex systemic proccessess and classifications while others think in terms of agents and empathy. The first would think like a computer and have no friends, the second can't use a computer but has lots of freinds.

  • @mutantguitarist123 The gooey would talk about relational atributes of an object for example, when asked "whats a yo yo?", they might answer"somthing children play with its nice" (the same answer to any toy). While the prickly would answer, "a circuluer near cylindreal plastic device containing string with atached componant for grip on ones finger". They might inclued a classification like "toy" aswell.

  • @mutantguitarist123 something either exists or it doesnt despite our wishful thinking. No idea what ur talkin bout

  • @TheGodofAtheists I agree. but this perception of the meaningfullness of religious language, derivese from personality type. That does not mean the perception is not usfell in other areas of understanding. My previous comment explains how the "goo people" tend to confuse saying what somthing is like, for saying what somthing is. You could say that a thing is a nice thing, you could discuss the behaviours of the thing, but that does not explain what the thing is. God is meaningless.

  • @mutantguitarist123 calling somthing somthing a forest simplifies an immensly compex stream of componants, yet it is nescesary for a socail context. We cannot talk about all of the details of somthing in relation to all the other details when we say "a man walks through a forest" we could elaborate on those things, but all the details of such a procces would be beyond comprehension on a moleculer or atomic level, or even a more superficial level. we dont describe the details we describe agents.

  • art clokey, the creator of gumby, named two of his characters prickle and goo because he attended the lecture that watts talked about this. pretty cool.

  • The 'whole' is greater than the sum of its parts because when you account for each (prickly) part in isolation from another part you are failing to account for the interconnecting web of relationships that exist between all the parts (the goo).

It is like looking at a spreadsheet and seeing only figures, when many of the cells are defined by formulae that apply functions to more than one cell, inter-relating them.

Consequently a holistic appreciation of a unified "gestalt" is the right view.

  • so yin and so yang......

  • @amanpwnsyouall

YES, Very true, to a huge degree. And when you master "both" the Yin and the Yang you master LIFE and you understand why people are the way they are. You basically have become enlightened.

  • i was once accused of being like goo by an employer lol, guess i know which im more of... not to mention i found this video on my own :P

  • @djdnauk1977 You really are gooey, aren't you?

  • i guess so! to me everyone else is just more prickly!

  • @LordShivasServant

Einstein was "very" gooey too. Hence he talks about "the power of imagination" all the time. I bet every great inventor of the past has also been "Gooey" as well. SORRY you retarded fuck, but it isn't an insult.

  • @TheROCKandOrROLL lol @ you thinking it was meant to be. Stress and shit reveals our fears well.

I like you... you're very gooey..

  • @LordShivasServant

And that is one of those weird things that you realize when you truly "think" about it.

People who don't claim to be "followers of God" seem to have more "faith" in something higher than people who do claim to be "followers of God." People who openly say that they "follow God" seem to trust more in what they "see" than what they "believe." While the "hippie/non-believer" seems to trust in "the light" or whatever you want to call it.

  • @TheROCKandOrROLL Good to see you're riding the wave with "relative ease".

With all those quotation marks, I'd venture to say you've read a book called "Science and Sanity" ;)

I honestly have no clue what I am. I'm a Discordian, and even other Discordians would consider me a bit rigid and Orthodox. And you're right, essentially understanding is all that matters. I'm a hardcore Shivite/Goddess worshipper. Spiritual Death etc

  • @LordShivasServant

No I realized the second after I typed it that you probably didn't mean it in a negative way. Hence I tried to cover it up by saying "I am having a bad day." I don't get "stressed out," and yes, I will admit that was childish of me(another reason why I took my comment back.)(they don't have a trash can option.)

  • @LordShivasServant

And I also looked at your name right after I typed it and realized you must be very "gooey" to have a name "LordShivasServant." Or else you are "prickly goo" which I think is probably the case. You seem to understand "spirituality" and "wisdom" with a name like that. And I think that is basically what it all comes down too, there are thoughs who understand "spirituality" and thoughs who don't. The YIN and the YANG.

  • @LordShivasServant

And if you don't understand the "wisdom" of the past which points to a "spiritual" way of living, then you will automatically be very "prickly." Because then you wouldn't understand how to be "gooey."

  • @LordShivasServant

And yes, I am very "Gooey" because I "choose to be." I actually go in "cycles." But lately I have been choosing to be Gooey.

  • @LordShivasServant

Sorry, had a bad day, didn't mean it.

  • @LordShivasServant

Are you very "Prickly?" I would say I am "Prickles and Goo." People who are very "hippie" like seem to have more "faith" in things that you can't see than people who "believe in God." So the Hippies would be more "Gooey" while the "people of God" would most likely be "prickles." I "believe" in God by the way. I think "something" had to have created us.

  • particle~wave duality.

  • This video makes me feel all gooey...lol

  • thing is, gooey people will be the only ones to have found this video on their own..

  • @sony8877

Ain't that a gooey thing to say (where's the evidence, reasons, etc), I'm all prickly and I'm here.

  • Hey nice eclipse / oroboros / egg cell illuminati symbol you're using there... Care to explain why you used it?

  • So why is it that, every symbol that doesn't have an ethnicity still alive to get offended and file lawsuits; is now EVIL ILLUMINATI SYMBOLISM?

Is there no differentiation between good and bad in your head?

Or is there even a differentiation? Does subversion and the unnatural really exist in nature, or in our warped minds?

You people bring shame to the conspiracy "movement". You and your con-artist Jones.

  • Precisely what I was fixin' to say! A lot of Egyptian teachings and symbolism have been distorted to sound like evil illuminati bullshit, when in fact they were handed down by Ra, a 6th dimensional collective being whose modern channeled teachings are actually very closely aligned with the bible...If you can just picture Jesus as an alien, that is. lol

  • I believe it's a general rule of the dickheads of our world to distort any practice or mythology that teaches real virtue.

Look at what they did to Jesus. Hinduism. Buddhism. And now Native American traditions in the New Age movement.

  • @MaynardMouse I Do.

  • Im Goo

  • No more healthier than being prickles :)

  • thanks for the vid!! loved it.

  • I'd love to see what they would do with Gilles Deleuze!

  • I can't think of anyone more prickle than Deleuze. Difference is essentially prickly.

  • Duh, I get it now. You meant how the South Park guys would cartoon Deleuze phylosophy. WOW, that would be great. And a cartooned history of philosophy made like this would be really good ! LOL

  • In some situtations i divide people up into predators, prey and mollusc's(occiasonaly scavenger)

  • And you know how Gumby's pals Prickle and GOO got theirs names.Creator Art Clokey was a lifelong friend.

  • when did matt and trey get into alan watts? that's pretty awesome

  • I've always divided people into Spartans and Hedonists. Very similar.

It is so great that through YouTube a whole new generation can be turned on to Alan Watts.

  • @Amhlair what if the come as both?

  • @Amhlair I like that idea. It makes me a Spartan, which is cool, instead of just goo.

  • prickle and goo were [also] characters in Gumby, iirc.

  • Gooey = Yin person

    Prickly = Yang person

  • I have heard this recording (before the cartoon added), I always identified with the gooey personality.

I found this and played it to my friend, he said after it" I immediately identified myself with the prickly person".

I think the world is comprised of 30% gooey people 60% prickly people and 10% undecided, [heh] Strange universe...

  • Great!!!

  • Holy shit. Wow.

  • Robert M. Piersig's "zen and the art of motorcycle maintenence" Describes this personality split as "classic" or "romantic".

    GREAT VID!

  • Goo: Wavefunction before collapse

Prickles: Instant convergence to expectation value

  • ...not that wave/particle duality applies directly to this discussion. But there seems to be so much malice on these Alan Watts comment boards that I figure some quantum can't hurt. Someone debate me or something... I'm bored.

  • Philosophy of the Prickles = Scientific Atomism

Philosophy of the Goo = Mystical Holism

  • The way I see it are the logical thinkers and the creative thinkers!

  • Idiot

  • Compared to this "moron", you're a retarded meatball.

  • That sooo true!

  • Combination of Alan, Trey and Matt works really wonderfully. Love this sooo much. So clever. Would like to see more.

  • Indeed you are correct about the dates. Wow, I am very surprised he only lived to be 58.

  • Not so strange when you consider he's fondness of alcohol:P A great person nontheless!!

  • what are you talking about matt stone and trey parker. all they did was produce it. this was all from that philosopher alan watts.

  • I hope Stone and Parker produce more of these Alan Watts spots. The two they've done so far a brilliant interpretations.

  • giggity goo

  • I have a goo way of thinking, but I create things prickly with goo understanding.

  • I was cheering for the prickles.

  • i think im a gooey prickle.

  • great video, stone and parker is a good team too; they really have the ability to share their views and ways of 'seeing things'

  • Gooooo

  • and i'm a gooey prick... i mean prickles.

  • OMG three of my biggest heroes!!

  • Yes, they were. Matt's dad tried to teach him buddhism when he was a kid and so him and trey did this a few years ago, they did the keyframes after being contacted by furry carlos

  • thanks 4 this

  • Hi,

You got the other 5 of these?

  • Thanks for posting this. Alan Watts and South Park: two great tastes in one!
