  • Feels like it's missing something without Howard's Wailing and the Jaw Harp, but props to Jeff for melding in to this song quite well!

  • i kinda like to see victor take a back seat once in a while, shows versitility and also lets bela and jeff step up abit!

  • Why the druumer plays like that? i mean, with that midi (or wtf this is) thing..

  • @MrBassakos It's a Drumitar, and as you've rightly said, it's a heavily modified MIDI instrument, which started as a Synth Axe, if I'm not mistaken.

  • @MrBassakos He invented that contraption ("Drumitar") and it's a one of a kind. At first sight, it looks like crap, but what he does with it speaks for itself. The player, "Futureman" is actually Roy Wooten, brother of bassist Vic.

  • @MrBassakos Bela Fleck doesn't like anything in his band to be conventional. I just wish Johnny Rabb was drumming for them. . .

  • Does Anyone else think that the saxophonist ist absolutely awesome? Yes, Vic, Bela and Futureman are, too, but this is the first track were I actually really noticed how great their sax player really is.

  • @bassmajor

    Snake Charmers hypnotize snakes

Jeff Coffin Hypnotizes crowds of people.

  • @bassmajor Jeff Cofin is UNREAL! See them live if you get the chance, you'll be very happy you did.

  • @bassmajor The whole band is incredible. What a collection of talent! And yes, Coffin is AMAZING!

  • d++++ esse video do victor

  • Sad to see Futureman is not in his trademark pirate garb here. Is it me or does he look a little grumpy here? I bet he's pissed off because someone spilt something down his pirate costume before the show so he couldn't wear it? Or maybe it shrank in the wash? Just a theory....

  • @Changles He definitely looked displeased, I think you're spot on, it's the only thing that makes sense

    lol

  • this is one band i reallly want to see live....but they never come to the UK. also, as a 16 year old who cant afford much at the moment, the trip to dublin to see them last november was out of the question :(

Just every song seems to have an amazing melody, with every instrument playing beutifully. I wish i could play or write music as great as this. even the chord progressions, however simple just sound great put together.

Vic = bass hero of mine!

  • never come to the uk? they were here a couple of months ago at the barbican supporting return to forever.

  • yeah i saw something about that..but again i'm in the north - difficult for me to make the journey down cheaply on my own

  • @phillie345 don't mean to rub it in but i saw them in Dublin!

  • =5*

  • Vic looks like a mortal kombat character...

  • xD true

  • WOW!

That was so good I can't breathe.

  • what's the other instrument the percussionist is holding?

  • a synthaxe drumitar

  • The percussionist is named Futureman. He's holding an instrument he designed called a "Synth Axe Drumitar". It's producing most of the drum sounds you're hearing. Pretty incredible.

  • Thanks for the replies. Very informative and patient... yeah its a really awesome unique style

  • the percussionist is also victor's brother

  • omg, this guys are amazing!!!

i hope play music like them someday

  • Every time I see these guys live they blow my mind.

IMHO the best music on the planet.

  • jeff coffin has the most amazing sound with his soprano sax

  • who was the guy playing the soprano sax? fkn amazing

  • He is Jeff Coffin... amazing winds player

  • wood winds

  • Bèla's solo = wow.....

  • Futureman is a genius.

  • whats the bald guy playing?? is it some kind of clarinet...

  • Could be a Soprano Sax? I dunno.

  • yep that's a soprano sax.

  • Yes, it's a soprano sax.

  • this is actually really good

  • Interesting version of Frontiers with Jeff instead of Howard Levy....sounds good too tho...I just love this band. There first 3 albums are magical...I recommend all of their stuff, but if u want interesting and beautiful those albums are GREAT.

  • So great to hear some of the older stuff played!

  • i met a chick at bonnaroo. while I was driving her back to Ohio to meet my family she sobered up and jumped out of the car while I was doing 70 on the highway...i must be repulsive :(

  • LMAO

  • thank you blueberry much lol.

  • whats that strange guitar? an electric drum?

  • It's called the "SynthAxe Drumitar"...it's a home made MIDI drum controller made by Royel "Future Man" Wooten.

  • This is such a great great song. I love it.

  • i dont know is it really like that, but in bonaroo always play my favourite musicians

les claypool, wooten, fleck, chick corea...

  • beautiful song just great thanks for the magik

  • thats great, but wow they're getting old...

  • Look around....it happens to everyone.

  • Looks like a synthaxe midi controller that Allan Holdsworth uses.

  • 5:06 lol, where's the camera going?

  • It is just tripin for your eyes. lol.

  • It's going to heaven.

  • @GrodSamson Trust me, those lights are more interesting than Bela.

    ..

    ..

    .....

Okay, I can't keep a straight face saying that:)

  • futch gets too little credit. he must have a metronome in his head

  • Amen to that.....he keeps everything so tight in the groove. And it's not as if the 'tones play is 4/4 all day =P......17.5/8??? Crazy

  • What is the instrument the drummer uses

  • Drumitar

  • victor wootens a beast

  • This sounds great !

  • frontiers was better with howard .so was blu bop and sinister minister .i miss the tall thin flecktone , the man with 2 brains, howard levy i love the new mars needs women though.

  • Well, I think Blu-Bop's okay with Jeff. The only real bone to pick I have with it is that during the drum solo, Vic doesn't do that cool bass riff anymore. Just the usual one from the rest of the song.

I agree with you on the Sinister Minister.

Frontiers? I could go either way.

  • look at vic showin tha gunz lol

  • hey, drumita ain't got his pirate hat on!

  • Jeff Coffin can not replace Howard Levy in my opinion. I actually prefer 3 flew over the cuckoo's nest (without Coffin or Levy) to the Flecktones' newer stuff.

  • well, but did u see jeff coffin in let me be the one ? that tenor sax cant be better, IS PERFECT.

  • yeah

  • this is the meal for the spirit thanks for this awesomw vid. enjoy ur life

  • Questa è musica! Esta es musica! this is music!

  • that drum guitar is nutty

  • wow, finally. I love this band. Where have they been?

  • they've been around for quite a while, i believe.

  • 20 years!

  • Thank you so much! My favorite band. Your well worth the subscription!

  • Great song. Great performance. Thanks for posting it!
