Well, good to see that so many people like this Portuguese song... I think that Portugal now doesn't actually compete in the Eurovision, since it known it will lose! That's why the songs haven't been great this last 10 or 15 years, I think... This year they actually sent a song there that was almost to tease about the competition. But Spain (sometimes I watch the Eurovision in TVE) isn't either going to the Eurovision to win, for instance... They also know they're going to lose!

1979 estava Portugal de Joelhos a pedir a CEE para nos deixarem e com o FMI a por e dispor nas financas publicas. O curioso é que a maxima "pobretes mas alegretes" assentava q nem uma luva, porque era toda a gente mais feliz e bem disposta.

Além disso, um PIB, mesmo que fosse menos 5 ou 10% em 1995, representava um drama menor pq havia muitíssimo menos desemprego, o PIB era medido de outras formas (por ex., em 1995, eu mal tinha experimentado a internet... mas isso não era grande drama para mim)... havia menos carros, mas na Dinamarca, com um PIB muito mais alto há menos carros por habitante que aqui, etc.

I remember that song very well. I was 12 years old then and I loved it (though I didn't and still don't understand the words). Songs back then were sung by people who loved music and peace, whereas nowdays people go into the music industry (the name says it all) only for the money. That's sad. Thank you Portugal for that great song which reminds me of great moments in my youth listening to lovely Eurovision songs.

In my oppinion 1979 was the strongest ESC ever. 6 of 19 brilliant songs in one year!!! Of cource Portugal is one of these 6! BRAVO!!!

I don't think so. Manuela was very cute and she sounded great. The only thing that's stupid about her is her hairdress, but I guess it was the latest fashion back then - just look at the Autrian singer... IMO, This song would have been rated much higher if they sang one more verse instead of repeating the chorus, as wonderful as it is, 5 times!

Well, ielaba98, I assume I quite expect ESC performances to be freaky. that's part of the pleasure! But not if you're interested in winning the contest, of course! Still, We may be judging this segment from a too- 2010's eye. There were so many "freaky" songs that year one must admit it was acceptable. BTW, my favorite Portuguese ESC song ever is "Bem Bom" from 1982. Not a winner, but what an everlasting piece of cult!

ganhar agora? agora já não vale a pena, antes é que era, o festival da eurovisão tinha alguma importância na europa, era como que uma janela para os países se mostrarem, quando foi este festival em 79 ainda eu nem tinha um ano... e apesar de não ser o meu estilo de música cresci com a tradição de quando era dia de festival da canção juntava-se a minha familia toda para ver e era sempre uma noite de festa um dia especial, era o dia do festival da canção... belos tempos

Esta música é bonita e a interprete é realmente muito expressiva, mas esta música não é tipicamente portuguesa. Na verdade, o ritmo parece uma mistura de discoteca com samba, ou cousa que valha. A truly amazing Portugese song. One of my faveourite Portugese entries (along with 1989, 2004, and 2007)

This got a deserving 9th place, but it could of got a bit better. This is one if my faves from 1979, with the tune, and I really love the chorus.
