I bet the front brake is fine. Twin leading shoe brakes don't work as well in reverse.
I discovered that myself while walking my 71 R75/5 backwards down a driveway like yours. Great job on the restoration! I just finished mine a few months ago. Original black with 6 gallon tank. I brought it from the brink as it came to me in boxes. I've owned other old airheads and despite what anti beemer snobs may think, these old bikes are very pleasant to ride and own. Becoming collectible as well.

Agreed...while that king/queen seat is not the most pleasing to look at...it is so freakin' comfortable on a nice, long ride. That's the tradeoff...wonderful airhead...enjoy it... I tend to start and ride my classic motorcycles in front of my kids, too. Don't want them scared. And while I'm all about "choice," pants, gloves and a helmet (at a minimum) would be a great example to set for your little one...

yeah,, GREAT job!! I just did one myself.. and the seat,, yeah, its not too pretty, but everyone Ive talked to with that very seat has loved it.. Dont know about you but my butt has no eyes!!! Sure has nerves though!!!
