Alot of people criticize szeryng for having no obvious or distinct style...but i really think that is what makes me love him

when i hear heifetz play mozart or mendelssohn i hear heifetz

when i hear oistrakh play mozart or mendelssohn i hear oistrakh

but when i hear szeryng play mozart or mendelssohn...i hear mozart or mendelssohn, ppl really underestimate players that can really bring out the original composers intention in these musical notes...szeryng <3:D

I agree with you on some parts. However, when heifetz or oistrakh play Russian music, they definitely play it right.

Wow. This may be the most beautiful performance of the Mendelssohn I've ever heard. Szeryng's playing is limpid, elegant, and sparkling, with genuine depth.

I really like this version, it's very emotional! At 2:14... I always get chills. It's beautiful! I wish I could play these piece that good xD But that'll take a couple of million years... !

I would also add that Europeans grew up in the places where those composers lived, and they went to the same schools where those composers learned. Of course Chung is good, but Europeans have the advantage that no other classical musician has.

I think your partially right. However, I believe it is fair to say that Menuhin, Enescu, and Oistrakh were better simply because they were more experienced. With all respect to Chung, I doubt she will ever have the sound they had.

This is way better than Kyung-wha Chung's. Generally, Europeans are better than most others.

No musician is really "better" than another. Although I personally like Chung's version, it doesn't mean that I think she's is "better" than Szeryng.
