  • Saw this video...ignored it. Moved to Eugene and started a business anyway. It has been a year now and we have surpassed our monthly goals. I did this with poor business sense. Using Eugene's amazing public library and free score cousellors I found that I was only at 25% capacity due to inefficiency. While all the hobos protest and shit in the park I work and build. I'm a redneck, hate hippies and it doens't matter because I provide value. Suck my infected cock losers!

  • The only things left on earth will be crackheads and cockroaches-just ask any cop.

  • u made eugene look like a crack head ghetto ghost town

  • Id rather be broke in Eugene than a rich man in Texas.

  • Hmm, this scene is a lot like San Francisco back when the .commies all dried up and blew away along with their beloved Bill Clinton's"New Economy". Well, this is what you get with a state that is run by anti business leadership. Just make someone else pay until they find someone else to go,just to get away from you.

Hopefully given time, the people of Eugene will be able to rebuild a sustainable local economy and have one that works for them instead of all of this International Trade BS.

  • Riots and crime?...hahaha you pussy i hope you dont live here.. Eugene is a beautiful thriving city.. the only reason companies who retail stupid shit we dont need are going under is because finally the people of this nation are waking up

  • Hi, i'm from Barcelona. I did a road trip from Vancouver (Canada) to San Francisco > Las Vegas with some friends, and we still remember Oregon. We thought it would be the state between the objectives, but the better state we remember is Oregon, maybe because the people "politeness" is so similar to Catalonia. We were in 2007 summer. After watching the video i hope this is some kind of support to you.

P.S. I hope you understand what i tried to say, my english is bad.

  • I love how morons like yourself take a few examples of stores closing, empty houses and paint a broad brush and call it an economic collapse. How do you define an economic collapse? Is it unemployment of 10%? Guess what the entire country is in the same boat. Truth is we're spoiled. Try living in South America, southeast Asia, or the middle east and try inflation/deflation in 20% swings, almost entire countries living in poverty, etc. We don't have it that bad.

  • Dude you suck. GTFO of Eugene

  • Dude you are a fuck tard plain and simple.

  • It is sad to see cities loose so much due to the economy. Oregon is a beautiful state, and this is unfortunate. I feel sorry for the people there.

  • God's Kingdom will correct all these issues....pray for it. Matt 6:9,10 Dan 2:44

until then all the best to ya

  • This is old news. Eugene has cleaned up allot and the economy has picked up in the eugene metro, its just our city leaders that have no idea what there doing and are running this beautiful city into the ground. in a couple yrs when theres re-elections hopefully we can get this city moving forward.

  • I guess I'm not visiting Eugene any time soon.

  • I am counting down the days and hours until I leave this shitty town full of miserable people. Southerners are stupid as fuckn' pants, yet at least they can make decent food! So sick of these unhealthy hippyartstudent/lesbo-indie/shemalehorrayyvegan^o^ fucks who'd be perfectly content (scratch that, HONORED) to be shat on by political celebrities. Damn it. It feels unbelievably satisfying to say that.

  • looks pretty much like liberalism has run its course. make no mistake...its gangs from s. calif. that have been trickling in there - and the liberal welcoming committees that are contributing to the death of this community. think about it. this small 150,000 community doesn't really know how to handle the newly arrived crime, so it comes to a halt. unable to deal with it, new growth grinds to a halt. no one wants to move into an area that is destined to house crime, which is certain to rise.

  • Dale, I think gangs should be the least of our concerns. When old hags like Kitty Pircey (I think that's how you spell her last name.) leave her own city to decay while wasting more money on buildings that shut down months after first use, it is the responsibility of a few people to leave before this place before it consumes them. And in the U.S.? It's not like there are a lot of options. In '10 Eugene will be the ideal place to sell heroin and fuck your cousins in a blackout. That is it's fate.

  • well that sounds very nice for the demise of one of the prettiest, nicest places for the young or elderly to reside that ever existed.

    you must be a liberal.

when will you guys ever learn. you've given away such a nice place to illegal alien gangs. the cycle is repeating itself over and over.

what's happened to calif. is now consuming your formally peaceful and beautiful state.

i'm trying to be politically correct. i think you know where the problem is and what is destroying your state.

  • Why are you so determined to peg me as a liberal? I don't give a flying shit about Democrats or Republicans, red party, pink party, etc. It's all by and large the same thing. What the hell do you care about the elderly? You're 18 aren't you? Take responsibility for yourself and quit trying to impress me with your notes fresh from government 101.

  • "prettiest, nicest places"

You're joking right? What about Tibet? Or Iceland? Ireland? Do these places ring a bell in your microscopic brain? No, of course not. You are an American. To people like you, places like Eugene, Oregon are close to paradise.

Buy a passport. Take a vacation for once in your life. Then tell me that America is beautiful.

  • Your a retard. America has some of the most varied and beautiful landscape in the world. I doubt you've been to states and although Eugene isn't that beautiful as a city the surrounding countryside is some of the nicest i've ever seen. By the way I live in the UK so don't tell me to get a passport.

  • @wmotamedi03

    America is beautiful.

AND MY PASSPORT WAS FREE NIGGA.

  • its 2010...

  • And all the white, right-wing tweekers have nothing to do with it? Ha!!

  • i have never known of a place suffering for being too right wing and white. find me one.

it wasn't right wing ''tweeker'' - whatever that is - that decorated that new construction with grafitti. ten to one is was so. calif. hispanic gangs you can thank for that.

the fact they freely spray paint means they're not far from their 'home' turf. soon they'll own the streets. what peace-loving, responsible adults wants to commit themselves for 30 years to a neighborhood that's destined to go bad.

  • Comment removed

  • you must not be from Eugene, then. We don't have hispanic gangs, we have meth heads from the next town who are almost exclusively white, and if they had it together enough to have a political leaning, it would seem that it is conservative.

  • thanks for clarifying yourself. i didn't know such places existed.

  • This video is interesting and suicide inducing.

  • Soledad, California

  • Eugene's such a nice place. It was really too bad when I had to move because of the economy. I went to a temp agency at the beginning of the summer and basically got laughed out the door. What's the unemployment rate there? Is it higher or lower than the State's unemployment rate?

  • i live there

  • You can just about go to any part of the US and make the same video about that area. There are allot worse places to be, I just moved to Eugene from one. As far as crime, when push comes to shove crime goes up, it doesn't matter where you are.Truth is, you make anything what it is. Complain about rain? I would rather deal with rain than breathing smog. That says allot about people now adays when they complain about the fucking natural weather.

  • I dunno, looks pretty bad here. It's like this in my town here in Florida, but not quite this bad.

  • Maybe now people will learn to apply themselves or to curb their insatiable appetite. We had an un-natural and un-healthy amount of growth which caused this collapse.

And don't blame anyone but yourselves. Each individual person contributes to what makes this town what it is today.

If you people were smart, you would have known that growth cannot be sustained. What goes up must come down.

if you want to help Eugene- support local business and don't save your money like a lil biiiitch.

  • Damn, I want to be able to move back home and not just for retirement.

  • god bless Eugene

    eugene lover from Kaifan, kuwait

  • eugene is a dump.

  • fuck. i want out of eugene

  • Eugene and Springfield are getting thier karma payback for all the citizens lives they have ruined that they prosecuted and sent to prison who were not criminals. Lane County loves to lock people up for anything it can. They operate like hard core Nazi's there. Lots of brain dead hippies and queers that can't take a stand on anything except being hippies and queers.

  • If Eugene & Sprinfield were so hard nosed on crime their wouldn't be so many damn bums there. Start locking those deadbeats up! Every intersection and off ramp I go by has a bum with a sign. I agree about the hippies & queers but lets be honest, that includes the police. Lazy dumb cops & cop bosses. Why is the cop not arresting the bum for running into traffic to get that dollar? The cop sees it & keeps driving?

  • Nothing wrong with Eugene compared with the rest of the country. Loose college girls, I got tons of BJs there.

  • Ha ha this video is really entertaining. Especially now that we know the rest of the USA is in perril. Eugene is actually doing better than most of the country. But you know you have to be a part of it to feel like you want to be here. Otherwise you might just say things like " uh der its the worst place I have ever been."

  • I lived there for about 8 years, went to highschool there, started a business there, and was very much "a part of it", and I still think it is a terrible place. There is just no infrastructure for any business, there are a lot of artists, but they are so drugged out, that they can never expand their work enough to get their names out. The university could be nice, but frat houses ruin it, and It rains for 9 months out of the year and is horribly depressing. Summers are pretty though.

  • I agree with a couple of points, disagree with one. Yes, it depresses the hell out of me to be under gray clouds for 3/4 of the year (from so. cal), and yes, this city is NOT friendly to franchise-type businesses. However, I think that the reason you don't hear of many Eugene artists "making it", is because they all move up to portland to get some real exposure. True with all art types. also, what I think ruins it for me the most are the street kids who think it's cool to be homeless....lame

  • Well, I wasn't just talking about franchise businesses. There aren't many good local businesses either. Everyone freaks out when anyone tries to build anything. The biggest industry in Eugene is selling weed, which is detrimental to the economy. As far as the artists go, you don't need to be in a big city to be successful. It's called the internet. Also Eugene is supposed to be the city of Arts and Recreation? How is it good to be outdoors if it rains 9 months out of the year!?!

  • What about the local bookstores, markets, eateries, etc? I would say they are doing pretty well. I am in construction so I know what you mean about the whole "people freak out when you try to build things". Eugenians don't want to be "Californiazed", so they say that they don't want big new buildings coming up. Guess what people? It isn't even like that. Anyways, all it takes is time and money to get a big building built. Take the hospital for example.

  • Also, I am not so sure that selling weed is detrimental to the economy. Probably 50% (or more) of the weed that goes out in Eugene was grown here, or at least in the area. Those growers take the money they make and spend it on local businesses. The Real problem is Mexican marijuana, and the growers... many people die over it, and when they grow here, they ruin the area they grow in and leak dangerous chemicals into the earth. At least the Eugene growers keep it organic, and indoors.

  • How is growing weed indoors organic? How much electricity does that use? How many home fires does that cause? Your comment is ridiculous.

  • I didn't say growing weed indoors is organic (duh). What I meant was that many of the growers in the area take their crops indoors and a lot of them use all organic products. Of course you can grow with or without chems indoors, but people around these parts know that organic marijuana tastes that much better. Also I can't remember the last time I read in a newspaper that a house in Eugene or Springfield was burnt down because of electrical fires in a grow room.

    Keep it weird, Eugene!

  • And the last point, about the artists. It is true that you can get exposire on the internet... but you have a greater chance of selling your stuff if you have a large ammount of people that can check it out. I am willing to bet that the art galleries in Portland do a lot more in sales then the ones in Eug. Also, Musicians have limited places to play... you can only play JH's, the WOW Hall & the McDonald so many times.they end up moving north because there are a lot more places that book there

  • Lane county has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. What the hell are you reading? If people in Eugene would stop smoking dope & actually strive to do something that may chane but its doubtful. Get a job sir! The hippies lost!

  • Very well said. Pretty soon the only thing left in Eugene will be U of O

  • courtside did not close its doors "a few days ago" as you stated. they closed in the summer. I used to get my rackets strung there but had to switch this past summer because they were closed. makes me question everything else you say.

  • so when was summer to you i made this in December. I see even today March it is still vacant

  • Pita pit will never close :P

  • Ty 4 posting:) i lived outside eugene for several yrs. not al the mills are shuting down, but alot are. its getting serious.

  • I lived there for years, and it is one of the worst places I have been. It is pretty in the summer, but winter is a depressing hell. 90% of the people there are stoned all the time, and nobody does anything, ever. It is amazing if you see someone out on the street because everyone sits at home smoking. If people had motivation to do something with their lives maybe the economy wouldn't be so bad. Then there are the hippies, who think that they are actually doing something to help by being lazy.

  • haha Eugene is the best

  • dude u have no fucking clue what eugene is like you prolly lived in preppy nyc where no1 even heard of weed so shut up you stupid faggot

  • I actually lived there for 8 years. And I smoked weed every god damned day just like 75% of the pathetic population. It's a mudhole that never had any real businesses in the first place. There is a reason nobody ever visits there except for the University. Just a bunch of hippies on one side of the river, and hicks on the other.

  • Perfect! You nailed it! Hippies & hicks! I bought a diesel truck & the first comment I got was "you gonna haul some hay"? The second was "you are ruining the enviroment". My response... I bout this truck to haul my ridiculously expensive boat & my dogs. That's right, I paid $48K+ so my dogs would be comfortable. In fact I customized the bed of my truck so my dogs would be happy & have some room. By the way (to my neighbor) that's right, my two trucks & boat cost more than your house. Get a job!

  • darksidenum8 shut up eugene lover

  • I never knew A&W or Taco Time got shut down well i didnt even like that A & W you have to fucking pay to park.

  • Thanks to the close minds of those involved in city politics who fear Oregon turning into California, I resided in Eugene for 50 years, but no more, enjoying Dallas Texas now...with a economy at the extreme end compared to little ol Eugene...I will visit...but I will not live there.....homes are overpriced...sad.

  • Very good little commentary, lived in Eugene for 50 years, raised a family, worked there at the Post Office, living in Dallas Texas now where the economy is just the exact opposite...thank you city of Eugene government and your closed minds, of wanting to keep Eugene uncalifornia like...someday maybe you will get with the program.

  • Taco time closed?... no... how....

please tell me the Springfield didnt too?

man things were bad 3 years ago when i lived there.. but taco time...

whats next The Pita Pit... say it aint so

  • move.

  • For a small city of that size, where's all the traffic? Where's all the people? It looks like it's almost deserted!

  • The cause of this is the greedy nationwide realestate speculators, free world trade, illegal immigration, and wall-street greed...it will take around 8 years for the dust to settle...but American standard of living will be lower because of the globalists' in Washington demanding Free World Trade and open borders.

  • oh this crisis is affecting us very badly

  • people in california are leaving for neveda, arizona, washington, oregon and so on. point is i hear there are no jobs up so what are these people leaving too.

  • I dont think they are leaving because of a job. Its probably the thought of riots and crime.

  • I just left Eugene for Portland. I lived in Eugene for 23 years, worked at Hynix before it closed, and lived downtown Eugene for about a year. I have watched my home-city slowely collaps.. it's so sad. I had to move to Portland just to find a decent job. Goodbye Eugene, I won't be back anytime soon.

I wonder if Kitty Piercy has seen this video.

  • I hope i will keep updates and soon let the public know about her.

  • Great job reporting the situation in Eugene

    Thank you

  • Nearby Jacksonville, FL is basically a war zone. There seems to be shootings daily (no joke :-( )A lot of robberies; many used car lots closing; A lot of layoffs. Many home developments unfinished.

  • Nearby Jacksonville, FL is basically a war zone. There seems to be shootings daily (no joke :-( )A lot of robberies; many used car lots closing; A lot of layoffs. Many home developments unfinished.

  • Thank you for sharing. In Ponte Vedra Bch FL, crime is increasing. Many homes have been up for sale for over 2 yrs. Some store closures, mainly small businesses. Ppl use less services; maids, lawn, etc.

  • I lived there between 1998 and 2004. It was starting to die then. Sad, Maybe I won't move back there.

  • Up here in Wa its starting more so in the burbs,Seattle in general crime is moving up.

I live in Bellevue not low income but seeing vacant houses.

  • Wonderful job. Thanks for all the info from your neck of the woods.

  • We have to rebuild our city with an emphasis on green jobs when the recovery starts. It may be a while but I would rather live here than than many other places in this country.

  • Outstanding video. Great example of what YouTube has to offer above and beyond the MSM.

    Thank you.

  • I live in farm country in the mid west. We have ethenol plants going under and I'm waiting to see what is going to happen when planting time comes if the farmers can get loans to plant

  • This both sad and alarming. I used to live in Eugene. For the past 20 years it has been a boom town. Sounds like it will go down much faster than it came up.

  • Yeah all housing construction has come to a hult. There are still some projects going on in the government section. All the lumber mills are cut back on employees. There is no need for bulding lumber nation wide. That and many other large manufactures closing doors is resulting in a domino effect. Dont know when it will stop???

  • Excellent vid - thanks for posting!

  • Thank you im going to start to keep updates

  • We got out of Portland metro area in Aug.The price of housing and food, gas was enough to send us packing to a smaller community north. The big cities are going to be hit the hardest. If our leaders would open back up all the shut down manufacturing plants and start taking care of US.But i dont think that is their plan. Otherwise they would have invested in US instead of the banks.

  • Yes the big cities will be nasty

  • The mall here is still doing alright only because of Christmas so that will change

  • I want to salute you for making this video. We need to inform as many people as possible. People are just going along as if nothing is happening. We have been trying to tell people, they just wont hear it.

  • Thank you very true

  • House of cards.

  • Yes i dont see how anything will survive except Government but then that will fall

  • ...thanks for the reality.

    take care of yourself.

i hope others follow what you have done. we need to see for ourselves where the locations are hit hardest and where some are doing business as usual.

hopefully, we will see some people migrate to more prosperous cities or towns...the criminals will be facing some bullets soon.

  • very true

  • Wow Great Job and very sorry things are so bad, look like a precurser to what to come take care and thanks again i will subscribe.

  • Cool thanks ill start to keep updates
