I agree as well. What constitutes soul? What you feel. As long as what you played expresses yourself in some way, it can be considered soulful. When someone listens to something that is truly felt, they feel it too. There is something substantial and moving about it. I think that people close themselves to feeling what someone else feels whenever technicality comes into the picture. Technicality has the same capacity to express as anything else, and I hope more people acknowledge that.
Thank you! That's so very true. If you aren't bending notes for ten minutes, then all of sudden, you lack feel and emotion, according to some people. It's ridiculous, because the idea of 'emotion', is to express oneself, whether it be anger, joy, or despair. And since Petrucci, along with many others has mastered the art of conveying all of these feelings and more, his emotion should not be questioned.
Feel is a very nebulous term, in the way that many people use it. Really, anything can convey a certain "feel". Fast technical runs convey franticness or energy, wailing bending conveys longing, rigidness conveys tension.... As long as there is a tangible thing or feeling you are trying to express in what you are playing, what you play can be considered felt. And also, if you express a tangible idea, what you do will be connected by the underlying idea. I can definitely sense a connection here.
Yes, there is certainly a very apparent correlation, between ideas within the mind, and musical intepretation from the soul. Any self respecting musician will evaluate what they are trying to achieve, in order to speak fluenty and eloquently through their language. Some are particularly skilled with this gift, and I feel this is one of Dream Theater's many strengths.

one important thing is that music is very subjective... there are people in this world (belive it or not lol) that when they listen to this they're like "um... ok enough, I want my reggeaton :D"
if you like one guitarrist or another, is just about "style" and what you like to listen, that's it

I agree as well. What constitutes soul? What you feel. As long as what you played expresses yourself in some way, it can be considered soulful. When someone listens to something that is truly felt, they feel it too. There is something substantial and moving about it. I think that people close themselves to feeling what someone else feels whenever technicality comes into the picture. Technicality has the same capacity to express as anything else, and I hope more people acknowledge that.

Thank you! That's so very true. If you aren't bending notes for ten minutes, then all of sudden, you lack feel and emotion, according to some people. It's ridiculous, because the idea of 'emotion', is to express oneself, whether it be anger, joy, or despair. And since Petrucci, along with many others has mastered the art of conveying all of these feelings and more, his emotion should not be questioned.

Feel is a very nebulous term, in the way that many people use it. Really, anything can convey a certain "feel". Fast technical runs convey franticness or energy, wailing bending conveys longing, rigidness conveys tension.... As long as there is a tangible thing or feeling you are trying to express in what you are playing, what you play can be considered felt. And also, if you express a tangible idea, what you do will be connected by the underlying idea. I can definitely sense a connection here.

Yes, there is certainly a very apparent correlation, between ideas within the mind, and musical intepretation from the soul. Any self respecting musician will evaluate what they are trying to achieve, in order to speak fluenty and eloquently through their language. Some are particularly skilled with this gift, and I feel this is one of Dream Theater's many strengths.

Si tu cherche à te démarquer parce que "toi tu sais jouer de la musique", juge sur la musique (composition), la musicalité (façon de l'interpréter), et non sur la vélocité ou difficulté du jeu. Utiliser la technique comme seul élément de comparaison est une preuve de mauvais goût.
