Smiley's right when he says that African American's problems need attention. Now, go one step further.
Why not draw attention to a wide range of other people's problems as well? The problem is in this white Power Elite capitalist society, there's only so much time in the day. If you don't have money, power and lobbyists behind you, how far will you get in trying to be heard? Not very far at all.
@SasoriOfTheBlackSand, not me, nor my son. Hate is a strong word. I hate how Congress & the Republican are standing in the way of Obama's plans. And, I hate that Obama is giving in to them, but I hope to never hate Obama.

Obama, Love the handshake at the start of the interview baby ! haha. On a serious note, I have never seen a presidential candidate who is more down to earth than Obama. 75 Mill 1 year ago ! wow ! I would love to go to one of his speeches. Is he doing one in Australia anytime soon? We love him down under ! Obama 08' yeaaaah !
It's 2008 - it's time for the people of this country to have an actual member of "us" be in office who will do something difference. Please vote for a different basket of values this time.
If you are one of the majority Americans who only speaks English, then Obama would prefer you stayed out of Europe, because he would find you "embarrassing" to him every time you opened your mouth & spoke English there...
Only Smart, Multi-Lingual Americans Should Go To Europe
He was just making the point that in a real education system a second language is usually taught as opposed to creationism. The US education system is a sad joke, the only thing you learned was USA No.1, which is only true for firearms deaths, prisoner counts and fatness.
I'm a Ghanian-Briton, and at 0.35, Obama and Smiley do what I call "the hand-shake" (u click fingers as your hands leave each others). Now this is customary among the many of us, but I didn't know African-American's do this.
Is this a 1 in a mill sighting or do loads of African- American's do this?
Tavis, you have lived off the negative perceptions of Black people by putting our business in the streets to earn a buck. Then, you turn around and throw a fit because Obama was BUSY running for the most important job in the world to appear at your State of the Black union. He offered to have his queen Michelle appear on his behalf and you wern't gracious enough to allow the next first lady to join you. Shame on you!
I Belive barack obama is a angel, sothing whit him that make me feel like i can trust him, I realy hope he becomes presidente of usa, I am from sweden but it's serius for me to to get a good presidente in usa Freeworld, Vote fore obama!!! =)
The reason that makes this interview so beautiful is because Tavis never interferes in Obama's answers unlike some hosts who keep on interrupting for another question while the guests is in the midst of answering the first question. OBAMA got enough time to answer thoroughly OBAMA 08
Tavis Smiley is a hypicrit, he's been going on every single show he had, saying horrible things about Obama, and this video is a sad view of how publicity came first than the support for a brother, thanks Barack for showing respect to a guy who hasn't lately shown any!
One thing I see with Obama running is the overwelling numbers of people (not Black) who support him. I find it refreshing and encouraging that racial we are moving forward. I am hopeful that if he is elected it will be a new era in America on racial coexistence to better OUR nation.
I love the way that Obama is having so many white people and black come to an understanding. No matter how much goes through their minds about color. I live in one of the most racist places (Boston)and I see so many Obama supporters. I love it. This is what this nation needs and the world.
At first, I was hesitant to support Obama, because I was concerned that enough Americans were open minded enough to elect a black president. However, I underestimated the American people and Obama. He has garnered tremendous political and financial support, and according to polls he's leading in Iowa. Listening to Obama fills me so much hope for the future. That is one of the reasons why I am voting for him in my state's primary.
That's what our country should be about! UNITY.. Democrats and Republicans need to come together, creating some kind of dialogue in doing business with other leaders. Yes, war may be necessary sometimes but we need an administration that will first explore other options. That's the only way this country moves forward.. Barack Obama for President 2008..

Tavis Smiley and Senator Obama; two brothers who I have a great amount of respect for. I love Tavis's annual symposiums on CSPAN and hoping for Senator Obama to become the democratic nominee for president.
I can't believe this is the only thing you can say about him! I hate politics and I know most candidates are disengenuous, but how can you not commend him for being truthful, candid and smart? Boo to your bad attitude, negativity and rudeness!
Did you see the silly snap at the end.. Jeez at least they speak well and don't say ax all the time. I like barack as a democratic canidate. He is going to give Hillary a run for her money. The problem is I vote PRO WAR. It needed to be done and it needs to be finished. Obama isn't the one to do this well. Either way I hope the Dems lose this election even though history shows they won't
Everyone is alway unhappy with the politions stance
If you look beyond Fox (Bushy Propaganda) News, you will see that it genuinely did not "need to be done".
I think Obama is the only one who can regain international respect for the US, that has been totally destroyed by George Walker Bush.
And he is the only one who has a hope of understanding what needs to be done in Iraq, so that the US doesn't make it so gosh darned easy for extremists.
Cosmo I think you need to learn how to spell before you can try to make sense. Barack Obama is more qualified than any other republican presidential canidates as well as the democrats. Please learn how to spell before you try to make a point.
we really need a black president to prove that we can be united as one nation with several different races. Even today we have racism, definitally not to the extent as during the revolutionary war, and before and mr. luther king jr.s time but there are racists out there that need to accept one

A change I would like to see is the US government stop asking Ethnicity. How about simply born Citizen, Naturalized Citizen or Non-Citizen for a change. I have never been to France, but do they call themselves German/Francos or Latino/Francos...
Barack is the best thing that has hit politics for America in a long, long time. As Americans, we can not afford not to have Mr. Obama in office. I know this is a sign from God telling us all that we need change, now more than ever...Barack Obama is that change. If you are still unsure if Barack is the answer, please educate yourself. Obama said he would act if he had intelligence on Al Qaeda in Pakistan as he should. This means targeted strikes on Al Qaeda in the mountains on the Afghanistan border. I challenge anyone to find me a clip, text of a speech, news story, or other instance where Obama says he would INVADE Pakistan. There is a difference, folks.
Thomas Jefferson. Abraham Lincoln. John F. Kennedy. Barack Obama.
Find out when your primary or caucus is, and start preparing now. Get all your friends to watch this. Start spreading the word. Get out the vote and elect a real leader for a change.
thanks Barack for slowly dragging the rest of the "African" American community out of the slave 60's mentality:) The confusion of "Race" is with them not with you:)
Your comment is interesting. I've already thrown in the towel with Politicians, and so I don't trust anyone that approaches to run seats in the White House. George Clinton calls that place "The Witch's Castle." - from the song "March To The Witch's Castle." [Funkadelic's album Cosmic Slop]...That song still stands today on behalf of the sacrificial soldiers.
I'm very disappointed in Tavis Smiley, for disgracing the legacy of M.L.K. here. Martin Luther King Jr. was strictly grassroots to the poor, needy & afflicted people of HIS day. He didn't need authorization from the Govt. to make change among the people, because the Lord was HIS guide & strength. That is the problem IN "Black america." We confide TOO much in unstable leadership. Amen
This whole screamin' scam campaigning, about who raises the most financial status(money)etc, has exposed the true intentions of Politics. Pile of ticks, Pile of tricks, it's all the same thing. Scripture say's, "ALL Power is given unto CHRIST MESSIAH, in heaven and in earth." Decent & moral people don't need the rich Elite, to authorize & make change in THEIR lives. The Lord rules over ALL. Vote for Christ!!!
Looking at the way Obama carries himself and the way he focuses on issues, i would always expect his personality to be attacked, because his opponents see him as the biggest threat. I see him as the best hope for the US. It's not about his looks, but it's about the fact that he is right. Wasn't he right about NOT going into iraq?
This is really a breath of fresh air, those of us who are watching the American politics from a distance can only watch and hope that Americans evaluate every candidate honestly and I am sure, if they do they will realize that Barack is the real deal! With his attitude it wont be that difficult to mobilize the world to solve some of our difficult problems, especially the rising tension of world war. Now there is a tension to reverse the damage that Bush caused in his foreign policy
Barack Obama looks just like the American Bald Eagle! I think he just needs more support and understanding. We all need to take a stand with him and be by his side! He really is a very wise political candidate with a good heart. Everyone around the world will appreciate him and he will give us a good reputation!
im all for change as long as that change isn't the Constitutional Republic Of the United States. This man is for change of that kind..changeing us into a North American Union.
I don't see how a honest, rational thinking voter could not take Obama into consideration. I mean Ron Paul is great and all, but unity, thats what we need. Don't be a hater, look at everyone and make an honest, educated decision.I hope Ron Paul gets the Republican nomination, now that would be a hard vote.
Shame on you Ron Paul zellot, you have to use the Obama ora, videos to advertize for Ron Paul, which is another proof that OBama is the best and has the respect of every body even if they don't want to admit it. One love, One President: Obama O8 period.
Obama supporters: VOTE IN YOUR PRIMARY! Put talk into action. Ron Paul supporters: Your candidate is fundamentally a Republican. You should be hovering over the Republican videos - There is no comparison here. Obama is the prople's candidate--He has not had to reinvent himself... He has been genuine from the beginning.
Never compare this man close to a Kennedy, he is not a Kennedy and never will. He says Hillary is already acting as she won the election when at 7:24 in this video he saying he already won when he "gets inaugurated", just listen to his words correctly. People WAKE UP, Im watching your body language Obama ;)
you have to think positive before you can achieve anything you must believe it and say it. Here's my question why does he mention "Free world leaders?" George H W Bush mentioned the "free world" back in 94'
This is a candidate with such soul, such intellectual horsepower, such love and such command of language and history -- and such reason -- that I'm almost amazed he's willing to put it out there in the maddening, ruthless world of national American politics. But it's just that -- his goal of transforming the character of politics -- that drives him and captures me. Vote this guy in please.

i don't know why you got a hands down over this question.
the answer is a lot of black people in america snap their fingers when they shake hands. and every place has it's own version of the hand shake.
also, it's gone beyond just african americans who do it, and people of every race do it. or maybe that's just a city thing.

I'm an American, I'm an atheist- I think that the American constitution is the holiest thing on our land. I hope Obama wins the presidency in 08.

GO OBama, we love you.

Bush-Clinton-Bush- Clinton formula for presidential leadership is tried, tired, flawed, and failed.
Obama- Fresh, honest, Brilliant American of Integrity, just like the rest of us!
