If this is the argument, than Trinidad Tobago should belong to Venezuela, Cuba should belong to USA, Sri Lanka should belong to India, Japan should belong to China and finally all Great Britain should belong to France. So the people who inhabit the islands may choose to remain British if this is their wishes. To be in the continental shelf surrounded by argentinian sea is not a valid argument to justify the argentinian rights. If this is the argument, than Trinidad Tobago should belong to Venezuela, Cuba should belong to USA, Sri Lanka should belong to India, Japan should belong to China and finally all Great Britain should belong to France. To be close to a continental country is no reason for an island to belong to this country.

(part 1) Argentina is not forcing the islanders to be Argentinians. This is only a matter of the sovereignty of the lands. So the people who inhabit the islands may choose to remain British if this is their wishes. The same applies to Patagonia, where thousands of Welsh lived before and after the independence of Argentina in 1816, and they still live there!. The Malvinas are on the continental shelf, surrounded by the Argentine Sea

They're self-governing British Overseas Territory - and yes they have the right to pick their independence (or return to Argentina) if they want it. We have the very same issue here with Quebec, lots of them HATE Canada but they always enjoy using the CDN Passport anywhere they go abroad along with credit cards in C$ as well.

I can't help but think that this war of words may have a connection to Christania's plan to phase out subsidies on electricity. It may sound a little far-fetched but if one studies the recent history of the Falklands/Las Malvinas, tensions are almost always the highest whenever the Arg. gov. had trouble at home.

It is like Mexican claiming that they have the right to take Texas. The US faught in a war and won but how would the US feel if Mexico was claiming that land was theirs & demanding that the world listened. Also lets not forget what the people of the Falklands had to go through when the Argies invaded their land. Kept them hostage. They have said that they want to reamin British, Britain as agreed they can be British so end of story.
