Your correct, pilots look for a headwind (wind that they fly into ) to land, this way they can slow down faster. When taking off, you want a tail wind, in which case makes you go faster. If landing in a tailwind, a pilot could recover but FAA regulations and ATC suggests head wind runways. Now, in some cases, aircraft cannot cannot land on a headwind, simply because they may be in an emergency. So, they give them the closest runway available.
Its very sad not to see alot of BIG planes anymore, especially in the 80s where u see alot of Tristars, DC-10s, and Boeing 747s right here in the states landing at airports all the time.
Great video, I have been spotting at PHL for 35 years. It's a great place to watch planes due to the ample spots to watch both from the end of rw 27 l/r and 9 l/r. Looking forward to seeing the UPS 777's in the near future. Anyone know the delivery dates to UPS and FDX?
Nice vid! I love watching planes; how do you do this without getting kicked out by security ? Everytime I do it at Pearson (Toronto); guards usually tell me to leave....like I'm sort of a terrorist.
Who wouldn't want to live near LA, i mean seriously? Haha, philly is a pretty good airport to spot from doesn't really have that much of diversity between airlines...but it is the 9th busiest in the US so yeah..ha ha
No i haven't but my friend has and he says its crazy. KPHL has a takeoff or landing like every minute and a half. KBOS is really busy too i was there and it was a flight every minute.
Wow that's a nice long spotting video... Mine's individual because I can't upload such a long duration video onto Youtube... They are quiet compared to the 747s and DC-10s(from Bangladesh), those make great loud noise lol I love them. Anyway I'm from Singapore, greetings.
P.S. Russian and Soviet planes make greater noise plus the C-141s and C-5s in your country. :)

737's and 717's and some older Boeing models seem to have the loudest thrust reversers
