What they don't mention is that Roosevelt also did not acknowledge Owens's success - something Owens was more offended by than Hitler's failure to congratulate him. Hitler never claimed that the games would illustrate "aryan superiority". Also, winning in sports doesn't say anything about the hight of culture creativity of any race. A good sportsman may not be a good scientist.

The actual R&D for new products is still in the US and the US by far produces the lions share of scientific papers. Thats why American universities dominate world rankings. After the US, its European universities. The only real innovation coming from the east is Japan.

Also we're running the largest trade deficit in the world right now thanks to our consumption. But you're right, we do have the best universities in the world right now but that will probably change as economic powers spring up around the world, and the countries have more money for basic research funding at their universities.
