i have found rare gems like this at estate sales, or garage sales, places where people will sell albums for cheap and have no interest in them or any idea of their value
hey ive been looking a long time for this song!! that aaron 101 brings about 500 big ones! but whats important is this song blows the crap of all thouse nauseating hillbilly/lawerence welk versions of this song ie ella mae morse et al thanks
Driving rocker. The original Western Swing version of 'Oakie Boogie' is by Jack Guthrie and some footage exists of him doing it from around 1949. I've seen it in a Woody Guthrie documentary (Woody and Jack were cousins) but don't have it to put it up, I'm afraid. I've got it on a reissue Capital 45 from about 1960-something, I would guess, however, and might put that up in time. All that said, it's still Hank Swatley's version that kills me.
Anyone know who was in the band? I would love to see if any of the band was still alive. Any information on my grandfather would be cool. I hope to post some videos from 2000-2004 as soon as I get my brother to mail them to me.
Hank Swatley is my grand father. He passed away about a year ago. I have tons of video of him singing for family friends. The sad part is I never realized hwo famous he was untill after he past and I googled him.
Hi Guys, yes i just listened to it however its a lot slower than the one i used to jive to, any idea how many versions there are as this one sounds a little too country for me ......... how are we doing on the other ones..... xxxxx
The person with the records is gonna move and is giving them to me to make some room, but apparently they won't be moving for a while and becuase I am expecting those, I have been holding off on buying records since those 45's are mostly 50's and some 60's. No telling what treasures are in there.
Yea, but they never mention any other artists. Johnny Burnette actually tought Elvis how to play in college and he was never given any credit for it... My fav. is "baby let's play house" which I'm gonna sing one of these days. I hope i do find "blue moon of kentucky"... If I do it will be the only one I have worth more than garage sale value.. Mine are all screwed up somehow, but who cares? I'm still tryin to preserve those timeless classics. =)
You aint bein ignored, sorry. I'll watch out for those -somebody will be giving me a box of over 200 45's from the 50's sometime soon so I should find something rockin' to put up along with a few a mine. =D
YEAH!!! i couldnt agree more with you Jukebox however i now seem to be reliving my youth all over again and would love to hear any of the ones i mentioned earlier another great one was ''ROCKIN DADDY'' but i forget the artist.... keep rockin jukebox xx
From what little info I could gather it was made in 1959 and re-released in the early 70's, but who knows? One of these days I'm gonna buy one of those lathes and start cutting my own records and not have to pay hundreds and hundreds for a simple little record.
Ive found out it was recorded in 1959 and released in 1976, but like you, not much else. There is a live version played in Germany on youtube, have you seen it? He looks terrified at the start.
Hey Lynchburg,Do you have a copy of ''Honkytonk Hardwood Floor and Big Green Car'' I forget who the artists were but they were floorfillers when i was ''Rockin'' Thank you for putting this on youtube you have really brought back so many wonderful memories of a fantastic period of my life and im reliving it all again...... xxxx
oooooooohhhhhh yes have not heard this since the early 80's at Bobby Sox club in London it lit the dance floor up and everyone went wild.......... thanks for the memories............

Hi from France
Why all the collectors put always the A side of a record .
We find 1 , 2 ,3 , 4 times the same song but never the B side
AARON 101
A side .Hank Swatley - Oakie Boogie
B side : I can’t help it
I’m sure that many, really many persons will be very happy if you do that.
But perhaps you have not the record ?
