  • the destinctive sound of the Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin Helicopter (in this case USCG HH-65C Dauphin), tail rotor is because it has 11 blades, the way the tail spins through the fenestron casing with 11 blades is the reason for this sound, the newer models only have 9 blades, eliminating this sound, what a shame

  • @Dauphinpilot the fact you know that is awesome

  • French helicopter, a good one : the "Dauphin" (Dolphin in that meaning)

  • @Chrisdenancy dolphin? Dauphin means "Prince" in French

  • @tomas359 Bonjour Thomas ! So here, Dauphin means Dolphin !

    See ya !

  • the sound has nothing to do with the carbon fiber, do your research before you post something dumbass. Does a car with a carbon hood scoop make that sound? No didn't think so

  • The rotor's all "Air you lazy punk, lift me up!"

Air's all "No damn you, you lift yourself up!"

    Rotor's all "...." *SLAP!*

Air's all "HELLZ NO! ESPECIALLY after you hit me!"

Rotor's all "..." *SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP*

Air's all "OK OK! I'll lift you up! Just stop slapping me!"

Rotor's all *SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP*

  • Dauphin means Prince, not Dolphin

  • well... at least we all know which way the wind was blowing that day. :-)

  • that demo would have been more technically pleasing with the main gear retracted... great video ..just wish the crew would retract the gear.. cuz theres nothing like that choper in flight... love the sound of the tail fan ... they fly by my house everyday for border patrol

now you know why this chopper produce that noise

  • @pierr1e1 lol... if that was in ENGLISH!?... maybe.

  • @pierr1e1 just used google translate... i was to understand though that the high pitched whaling sound i was refering to was from the tail rotor fan... which is unique to the Dolphin family of choppers.

  • @pierr1e1 particular sound is due to the mean rotor in carbon fiber

so that to absorb vibration caused by hight speed rotating

  • thinking about signing up to be a Pilot of one of those 8-D

  • patting your woodie, means, "THIS IS COOL!"

  • Is there anything sexier?

  • @Back7sword

    Yep!

    :)

  • Where is Rotorfest

  • good movie

  • Maryland state troopers use the same helicopter. We hear this sound all the time around I95. As a Paramedic, I have loaded many patients in the side of this aircraft for transport to Shock Trauma.

  • You gotta love that noise! Hot refuelled many of them!

  • lol

  • fu 821

  • heard this beauty fly over my school today and just HAD to look it up to hear that noise again. Could almost mistake it for a jet! The rear rotors look so awesome too :D

  • demm awesome!

  • love the rear rotor configuration

  • @FPVsean Me too. It's a Fenestron.

  • @ScruffyandPuffy21 wow never knew that, and between that comment and now ive been doing serious research on helicopters, thanks for the aid very valuable =P

  • @FPVsean You're welcome. I think ever since the Gazelle and the TV show 'Blue Thunder', I preferred the look of a Fenestron as opposed to an open tail rotor. Google the ECO-Star Helicopter and Eurocopter. You'll like those too. If I had the money I would totally buy an ECO-Star. Gorgeous! I think that's what they use in the movie 'The Island'.

I've always wanted to learn to fly one but it's So expensive!

    Have fun learning.

  • @ScruffyandPuffy21 why do you think i dont know eurocopter? i may have only relavtively recently started research, but id even call myself a full on enthusiast by now... just fenestron never came up in the research.... im taking the easy way out anyways, im going to join my countries air corp or else canadas air force, get training and move to a private company to fly

  • @FPVsean Oh, I have no idea what a person does or does not know.

I didn't realize you were already such an enthusiast.

I just thought those two helos were nice examples of Fenestron.

Good luck with your training plans. I hope that works out for you.

I've considered the military route myself.

  • i love the sound of that helicopter!!

  • hmm.. they spelled Dolphin different. Made by Aerospatiale in the 1980s to replace the Sikorsky sea gaurd. One of my favorite choppers. I hear one every day fly by they are probably one of the most ear splitting because tail rotor. Still like the Bell 222

  • @Marshall7302 No, its not Dolphin, its Dauphin... dauphin is a french word

  • @dls23167 <WRONG, Sorry sweetheart only the Eurocopter SA 365/AS365 NON MILITARY is called "Dauphin" . This bird is marked is USCG colors making it an HH-65 DOLPHIN. see the USCG didn't want some faggy french/Canadian word associated with a badass military organization. Anything french is neither badass and certainly not military, hence the name change.

  • @tubesteakdynamo Call it whatever you like, its a Dauphin chasis. I dont kike French equipment either, but the USCG picked a French helicopter.

  • @blablues < Sure is base is an Aérospatiale SA 360 Dauphin, but that's about the extent of the french influence. Really it's mostly German as Daimler-Chrysler's Aerospace division did all the design and re-engineering.

Our HH/MH-65A through C Dolphin were actually built in China from those German plans .

The Aerospatiale 360 dauphin is a French hunk of shit. But German Engineered Dolphin built in China is a bad mother F'er.

  • nothing better than with this helo is 14 feet over your head dropping you baskets

  • great video!!! why did the person during the descend move his arm?

  • @avisingstar92 signaling the person controlling the pulley system to descend or stop

  • @avisingstar92 Making a big circle with your arm tells the spotter that is safe to continue lowing them. Patting your head tells them that you are ready to be lifted..

  • building a swimming pool in the middle of a runway could pose some problems. Like the fact that other aircraft have to use the runway, and a swimming pool dug into the surface could pose some problems

  • Ok. good point. I didn't notice that it's on a runway.

Anyhow, they could try and use one of those temporary/ above-ground swimming pool or something.

But it's just crossed my mind that this is just a demonstration, not a training. So it may not be worth the effort.

  • haha, yeah.

  • i bet you couldnt even rescue a guy on the ground lol so stop chirpin the USCG

  • And you can?

I can rescue a guy on the ground if he has flat tire/ dead battery or something.

Judging from my comment rates, it seems I'm the only one here that thinks standing on the ground and stepping onto a basket is an over-simplistic (and over optimistic) simulation of a water rescue where the person is swimming with almost all his body submerged and no solid place to get a foothold.

  • oh well now we know you dont trust your coast guard thats fine

  • y r there different types of helicopters used by the coast guard , the HH-65 (dolphin)and Jayhawks do the same thing don't they, rescue people using winches

  • The HH-65 is a short range helicopter used aboard the ships. It is small enough to be stored in hangars on the ship's deck. The HH-60 is a medium to long range heli that is capable of landing on the ships, but is too big to hangar.

  • @FoxDie262 The HH-60 can be stored in a hanger as the rotors collapse and the tail folds. If you notice the tail wheel is in closer to the cabin

  • jayhawk are used when its more dangerous

  • And when there is a longer flying time.

  • wow that is a cramped helicopter. Practically no space inside!

  • good stuff.

  • Not easy.

  • Awosme.]]]]]]]]]]

  • you got to have some balls to absail out a helicopter !!

  • @i8thegoverment Sounds like fun to me!

  • @i8thegoverment that's not absailing, it's winching

  • @tomas359 Well same sort of thing being lowered on a rope

  • Life Flight out of Toledo (Ohio) has 3 of these along with 2 Augusta 109's

  • This is a great video, was there myself, and have never seen helicopters that close in my life before!! Oh, by the way, to everyone who calls them this, Its the Dauphin NOT Dolphin, that's an animal!!!!!!!!!

  • Dauphin is the name for the French built AS365. DOLPHIN is the name the Coast Guard gives it. Also, many Coast Guard members like to call this particular helo Tupperwolf, which is a name I perfer. The nick name comes from all the plastic tupperware like components on board. And the form the fact the the fenestron tail rotor makes it 'howel'. But yes the Coast Guard officaly calls it the DOLPHIN. NOT DAUPHIN.

  • You're correct.

  • I heard the new tail rotor allows the Dolphin to fly horizontally at 70 knots.

  • those fly over my house every day

  • The new style 10 blade asymmetrical tail rotor (T/R) hub is being installed at this time, its quieter, has a lower pitched "hush" sound, still different than the conventional T/R sound

  • I would have to agree...The Dauphin has the most addictive sound to it. Its like a Beechcraft Starship...you can tell what it is without even looking at it. This video is a great shot of a Dauphin. Great job!!

  • by fair the best video of the HH-65C. Great Job

  • I love this sound....
