I'm informed enough to know that there are atleast 2 dozen new ways to run our cars. Do a little research. Electric is a way, but most of our electricity is coal produced. Their are patents on the market that allow cars to run on WATER. Yep good ole water. Everything from Garbage to vegetable oil has been found to run cars. Yet some folks just can't see past OIL, MORE OIL. No this is a new day, that requires new change. That 20th century stuff isn't gonna work now. Change we can believe in.
I feel sory for your rational. You want more polluting gas. You want them to drill in Alaska and off the coast of Florida for a TEMPORARY fix to our overall problem. You want to know what gas does to us - turn on your car go stick you nose near the tailpipe for 10 minutes. If you don't pass out, write down how you feel. Now imagine 2 Billion of those cars running for an average 24/7 for the past 30 years, not including trucks and factory pollution.
Lets think about this. We will use simple math to make it easy. The gov. taxes the oil company $0.10 a gallon for $4 gallon of gas. The oil company make, we will say $1 of profit off each gallon, then raise the price of gas up to $4.10 to offset the loss in profit so that they still make $1 profit off a gallon. Does this effect their profit? NO! Does this effect my wallet? Yes, I pay an extra $0.10 a gallon that the government gets. In 2007, they paid 30billion in taxes, is that enough for you?
What an inspiration to our nation! I will do anything I can to get Obama as our president!
I just recently traveled the world with Semester at Sea and its funny, because I haven't been able to get my mind off of the need for worldwide service. I want to serve him and our world. America needs Obama but the world needs him, too! I can't wait to join the Peace Corps under President Obama! I will be honored to have him lead our country!
Be the Change You Want to See in the World - Gandhi
What a no brainer you are winter599. Do you want a president like Bush who has basically bankrupt your country. You talk about communism .. guess where USA borrows most of their money from .. CHINA the biggest communist country in the world. McCain is over the hill at 72, Obama is the answer
Funny, he wants to be Commander in Chief but he never mentioned anything about serving in our military. Apparently, the only noble and worthwhile service an American can offer is to help the economically disadvantaged. The best thing these grads can do is go out and become titans of industry, for it is they who create the jobs. They should go out and make tons of money, because it is by the creation of wealth that others are able to rise above poverty. It used to be called the American dream
Are any of you versed in Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto of 1848? At 8.27 min. to 9:52, Obama's speech has a VERY scary resemblance to the Manifesto. Do you really want a President who will raise your taxes, socialize everything (as in BIG government) and will have tea with ruthless & mad dictators without pre-conditions? Wow, he speaks well and has charisma and un-informed citizens think Obama will make a great leader. The President of America is no place for on the job training folks.
You are so sad. You are such a denial. America is about equality. Now I don't know how much education you have but I'm sure you understand what equality means. So, I don't care if Obama even sounds like Jesus Christ the Lord (who talks about equality), to me he IS the President on the United States.
America is NOT about equality, and NEVER has been. It's about guaranteeing specific INDIVIDUAL rights, and by doing so, giving everyone an equal chance. Affirmative action, or welfare, or anything like that is totally against those individual rights.
Amazing! Until I saw this speech I was unaware that the federal government had the ability to increase public school teacher pay and benefits or that it could control the hiring of more district teachers. I was also unaware that there is a causality vinculum between school funding and student achievement. It upsets me that the Republicans won't join Senator Obama in educating our youth. A new hope for our children's future is change I can believe in. Gobama '08.

I never thought that an election could be more about a message than just the candidate. Thank-you Barack for showing there is more to the smallness of our politics, and more service to give to the world.
Hopefully you vote that guy for your next president! I think he is the best candidate running for US presidency that I can remember! As a German with a Jewish background, I have to say that I absolutely dont care if he mixed up Auschwitz and Buchenwald, even if he did it on purpose; this is just unimportant and it has nothing to do with the fact that his views and his sense of justice are inspiring! exactly what the US need after the past 8 years...

It's brave, these days, to take nine minutes to get to a point. Even in front of a highly educated crowd. And its singular that he is so depreciative of his presidential ambitions, setting that aside to talk sense about how we owe it to /ourselves/ to serve others.
I've volunteered, and the sense of pride is enormous. One of the best things I've ever done.
Thank you Teddy Kennedy for paving the way for this person and this honorable time. A good & decent man will lead this country for the next 8+ years and his name is Barack Obama!
lets all serve our country by working for him and getting him elected Pres.
President Obama can turn the country around for the better. We need him to help us remain the number 1 power in the world. Vote Obama.
please listen to what he has to say. actually listen. don't tune him out because he is a democrat or because he is black. he is so much smarter than any president we have had in 30+ years. he is going to be so great in a desperate time for America. I love you America, do the right thing.
We are in desperate need of a new call to service. In an age of increasing awareness but a decreasing sense of connection to consequences around the world, it is time for the youth to once again be energized towards a sense of mission for this nation and the world.
It's amazing just how American this is. People who want to wrap greed in the flag, or craft a fairy tale out of good fortune, need to see this video. This is real patriotism.
It's great to know that our next President knows that there's a better way to serve your country than going to Iraq to get your face blown off in an unnecessary war.
But still you enjoy his speeches a lot, don't you?? That's why you had to search for it to watch it. You need to be true to yourself. No other presidential candidate right now can deliver a better one.

many throw remarks towards barack obama because they are jealous of how strong a candidate the Democratic Party has for this upcoming election. he is inspiring, and you can't deny that. what will mccain do? sure he talks common sense, but obama talks alot better common sense.
it is destiny that obama becomes the president of america. ( no noby is perfect, so is america. but arugbly it is the most needed thing this world still needs - democaracy.) the wounds created by the present guy should be healed.
i have NEVER wanted someone to be president so badly in my life.
he makes me care. he shows me how much more important our lives can be together than alone. he is the only president who continually advocated what service can do for oneself. not just military or fighting service, but real service. community service.
I both excited and frightened by Mr. Obama. If he has the power to do what he says, GREAT! But, if this man can't fix things as president. I don't know if ANYONE could. This man is very genuine, but I wonder if he knows how much control he will really have as president. I hope it's enough power to make real change, but I don't know if I believe that to be possible anymore.
I believe Sen. Ted Kennedy was supposed to speak here on that day. But who did he ask to speak for him? Sen. Obama - what a testament. We should all be learning from this man.
Wow. Now that's an interesting comment. You see, I thought we had this thing called "freedom of speech" in the US. After all, if you cannot support freedom of speech for what you disagree with, you don't support it at all. It seems a sad thing that a comment calling for a direct violation of freedom of speech can get a positive review (+21 as I type). If you want to show true support for freedom of speech, vote wolverine's comment down, even if you hate talk radio more than anything else.
Wow, what a starking difference to the fear mongering speeches of the Bushman. I sure hope you Americans vote for this guy and do the right thing this time.
I am a Hillary Clinton Supporter, but I have to congratulate Barack and Ted Kennedy for a wonderful speech. I feel like I was able to get to know both of them much better with this speech.
Obama is clearly a good and decent man. There is a reason why more educated people support him - because they have done some research about him and liked what they learned. I think a key winning formula is for less-educated voters to hear his story and meet the man(rather than the rumours and innuendo they sometimes consume). Perhaps televised round-table discussions with some of his non-supporters all across America would be very effective.
He is the greatest orator since MLK, plus his honesty, makes him the greatest candidate we've gotten in while. I hope middle America sees what we see.
25,000 onlookers came to the commencement, even though Wesleyan announced it was a closed event. We might be experiencing more than just a footnote in history!
You can clearly see the difference between a visionary, a true leader and a well educated man compare to that "C" student we have in the Whiter house who can not even write his own speech. Every time Bush tried to speak without being scripted, you can see the elementary vocabulary words in his sentences. He's just a dumb individual, "I'm a war president". Anyway, great speech as always, cannot wait for November 2008.
These lucky kids are going to be able to tell their Grandkids that, shortly before his election, President Barack Obama spoke at their commencement. Good for them!
you are simply the best and experienced more than enough to led this countries. Don't give up to your critics continue to do what you are doing. You rock Obama!
I hope more and more people listen to Obama first before turning to Fox News and having them decide who you should vote for.
Having worked as a community organizer for years, over seven years in state senate, highly intelligent and great motivator .... why is Fox News portraying Obama as an inexperienced liberal?
can this video please be featured on youtube? it contains a great message that is not only relevant for the graduates of wesleyan but for students and the youth all over the world.
He is one of the most polished and talented orators we have ever known in this country. He can turn the most mundane discussions into spirit renewing speeches which generate reactions similar to black church goers erupting in the holy spirit. You feel renewed and empowered when you hear him.
Don't listen the most retarded and conservative part of US population and their nostalgia for XX century. Listen the world from Asia to Europe and Africa who says Obama is the man to lead this nation in the XXI century
What I like about this speech is he pretty much told them, "Just because you graduated from a great school doesn't mean you've done your part. You need to get out there and work for it." As a college student myself, I'm happy to hear someone tell it straight. I'll be campaigning for Obama in Denver this General Election.
Simply an inspiration. Image 4 years of this! ...or 8! Whether he wins or loses the general election, he has become an American icon who has cemented his place on the political stage for years to come.
He is just the most amazing person. He represents our nation accurately and articulately, he knows how to move people and instill hope, and he sure knows how to speak.
I'm glad to see so many commenters who consider Senator Obama ingenius on the basis of this speech. I also assume all such admirers will be signing up for duty at the local soup kitchen post haste.
Out of all his speeches it seems odd that one made at a graduation ceremony, one at which he wasn't even originally to speak, stands out the most to me.
I don't know what else to say- there is a pervading sincerity to his speeches. It is not just a well written speech- it is a transcendently honest speech. There's nothing pretentious about it- it's just a good speech.
hey

OBAMA WANTS CHANGE??
1. Retreat from Iraq -- millions of Iraqi's are killed for aiding the US
2. Iran forcibly takes Iraq and controls the majority of Mid-East Oil. Think gas prices are high now?
3. Repeals Bush tax cuts = tax hike for ALL
4. Raises Corp tax rates -- businesses stop hiring, expanding, and creating jobs
5. To cover their higher taxes - business passes this on to the consumer by increasing the cost of their goods and services. You and I suffer
CHANGE???
Humph.

he makes me care. he shows me how much more important our lives can be together than alone. he is the only president who continually advocated what service can do for oneself. not just military or fighting service, but real service. community service.

Barak Obama constantly reminds me of why I support his Presidential bid.
For the first time in my life, I contributed to a political campaign, Barak's campaign.
I will be proud to call him my Country's Leader.

Its a miracle a clearheaded man like this made it to such a position in this race.
Barack has a sober and straight vision for our country, i just hope that the majority of our land will see this and get him in the office in 2009.

I hope more and more people listen to Obama first before turning to Fox News and having them decide who you should vote for.
Having worked as a community organizer for years, over seven years in state senate, highly intelligent and great motivator .... why is Fox News portraying Obama as an inexperienced liberal?

He is one of the most polished and talented orators we have ever known in this country. He can turn the most mundane discussions into spirit renewing speeches which generate reactions similar to black church goers erupting in the holy spirit. You feel renewed and empowered when you hear him.

Out of all his speeches it seems odd that one made at a graduation ceremony, one at which he wasn't even originally to speak, stands out the most to me.
Thanks Barack.
