To be honest, long-term health is too complicated a subject to get in to BUT, all I can say is I've been vegan since birth (43 years) and I have fewer health problems than my meat-eating friends. As far as I'm aware none of them have any terminal illnesses but some of them already have diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity.
just try tempeh and nori algae to get b12 vitamin. vegans DO have all the vitamins and iron and calcium that occidental-meat-eaters usually do not have, just because they don't eat organic fruit and vegetables, raw cereals etc. a vegan eater die usually 15-20 years after a meat-eater
@joelucertola these food have indeed vb12 but not enough and the form is badly utilised by the body. There are no serious studies looking at the age of vegan compared to meat eaters. It is amazing to see people repeating what they hear there and there or making up numbers just based on ideology. This is something I can’t explain, not my subjects. But psychologists can.
@joimko2 I agree that people can have a psychological tendancy to believe something that they want to believe. Just as meat-eaters often believe the stuff about needing meat because it helps to clear their conscience about how they treat animals. I.e "I know it's not nice but I'd get ill without it."
You could use Ghandi as an example. Doctors told him in his later years that his ill health was caused by his diet so he started to eat meat every other day....
@joimko2 Now we've discovered that he was probably vitamin B12 deficient and this can be extracted from bacteria and so he'd probably just have needed shots.
Some vegans are not as 'day-dreamy' as you may think. I'm sure some are when they first start. But there are many, many people who believe stuff because it feels good to them.
whoa, he escaped the werwolfs and became a vegan vampire lol, jk, i am a vegetarian guy in pretty good shape, in the army, n alpha fit group, run 6 miles 3 times a week, hit up the gym use soy protien sometimes, best luck, nice vid

But you don't get any vitamin B12 and you will be more prone to osteoporosis. Plus you will never break any records. Plus eating meat during youth when the body and muscles are in the most rapid growth has a role to play here. I have never heard of a TOP athlete who has been vegan all their life
You can get B12 but I take a multivitamin to be safe. Also, osteoporosis is actually higher in meat-eaters. As for breaking records, the female WORLD arm-wrestling champion? Has ANYONE been a top athlete all their life?
Don't forget, vegans are only 0.3% of the population, so it's rare you'll hear of any vegans any way but if you don't want to be a top athlete, which most people don't, does it matter?
Vitamins are good for you. Where do you get your Iron, B12, and B6 from then? I had taken Nutrition in college and they said that vegans must take supplements b/c they are usually don't get all of the requirments vitamin wise. Vitamins don't cause cancer either. I use them all of the time.
I'm taking nutrition now and I've heard so much false information in that class that I wonder why the hell I'm paying to "learn" this. We learned about milk and calcium as prevention of osteoporosis (which is actually correlated with excess protein consumption) and that the only way to get adequate calcium in the first place is through dairy. The book actually instructs lactose intolerant individuals how to ween themselves back on dairy! What a disgrace...
@ajutap Your English is just fine. I was talking about vitamins that are usually found in animal sources. May be all of them can be found from plants?
@joimko2 Eggs are also a much better source of cholesterol too! But, hey. There are fortified foods that contain B12. I'm a long-term vegan and had my B12 levels checked. True B12 was checked. Not analogues. I was above average. This is anecdotal but I can only look after my own body.
@joimko2 You say: "Longest life spans are in population having fair amount of dairies in their diet. Many variables are confounding (lots of veg, exercise, clean air) so I would not take this as a proof though." 75% of the population of the World are lactose intolerant. Many of these people are in the poorer nations. Black Africans for example. Poverty is related to shorter longevity so like you say, there are many factors to be taken in to consideration.
@rondiggy4 Did you know vegans are not more prone to osteoporosis? It has been linked to drinking milk. Yes. Milk! The dairy industry has been trying to convince everyone that you need milk for healthy bones due to its calcium content. This has meant that many people take this as fact and don't consider that the dairy industry just wants to make money. Cow's milk is meant for calves. Not humans and the high level of animal protein actually leaches calcium from the bones.
@TheSuperVegan shows me the refs reg milk causing osteoporosis. Being in the research I can guaranty that you're wrong. And no, I am not sponsored by the dairy industry. What is certain is that vegans end up with deficiencies after many years, some very serious. This based medical records statistics.
Longest life spans are in population having fair amount of dairies in their diet. Many variables are confounding (lots of veg, exercise, clean air) so I would not take this as a proof though.
@joimko2 Yes. You're right. Dairy does not cause osteoporosis. But could you give me the peer-reviews that show that vegans who follow a proper diet and ensure a good B12 source have these deficiencies. Could you also explain how most of the planet are dairy intolerant and therefore avoid all dairy, yet do not get all these deficiencies?
It is completely false to say that vegans are any less healthy than any other person following a non-vegan diet.

You go the pharmacy or Vitaminworld and you get B12, Iron, B2, B6 and any other types of vitamins that you need.
falsepride 2 years ago
and those come from animals bro sorry :-)
Dogvsgen 2 years ago
Not all of them! they make vegan vitamins too form plant, and mineral sources you just have to ask for them and they cost a little more.
falsepride 2 years ago
I don't take any supplements.
Real vegans/raw vegans don't take supplements because we know that plants gives us everything we need.
Only people who live in the mode of fear run out and get those cancerous synthetic vitamins and minerals.

I'm with you on that one. They trash veganism too. What is with that one? The teachers just have agendas.

not true!, you can get B12 even drinking beer!
We are thousands of vegetarians in the world. we do sports, many of us are profesionals athletes.
Sorry for my not perfect english, I'm from Perú.

Yes, you can get them from plants, even B12.
There are many vegetarian famous actors, athletes, etc. You can find it on Youtube.
ajutap 1 year ago
@ajutap Yes, vegetarians have needed nutrients (to current knowledge). Vegans on the long term do not.
Regarding v12, not a good source... Eggs much better.

..hahaha!!!
Your science is outdated.
All plants have trace amounts of B12 and that's all we need.
Nature also made a safety plan for us. Nature put bacteria in our gut that makes B12.
