kyokushin, came from kung fu/ kempo, shotokan, goju ryu, muay thai, judo, and boxind. those were the arts that the founder Masatatsu (mass) Oyama, practiced in order to form his style. Shotokan gave kyokushin some linear strikes, and katas. that is why sosai Oyama said: karate was like a cake, that you could slice in either squares or triangles, but it was the same in essence. If shotokan returned to a higher degree of contact, as when it begun in the 1930's, it would be great !
