I liked this album when it came out. I was wondering when movie was coming out and what kind. would it be.. Music from the Elder, like it said. Ace always did it like it should be. That's why it felt BAD when he left the band, OK kllers where coming before the notice.
I love this song...I just love the elder album in general! For some odd reason this song remindes me of a monistary or their singing in a monistary. But thats just me.
Love it! Freak'in love when they changed their stuff up. Makes it fun to know what era its from and know that I can almost always know around what year it was because I was a die hard fan in the 70s, 80s and 90s, through today as well.
The Elder has some great musical moments. Ace played many incredible guitar solo's on this album. Pity they did too many ballads on the album. After listening half the album you fall asleep.
Hate to break the KISS fan bubble but this is about little boys being molested as initiation into the Rosicrucian society. KISS was a gay band. Gay as Corey Haim.
in my opiion one of there most instrumental albums they ever made! so many people discredit ths album but i feel one of there best THE ELDER will live forever
I always was crazy about the The Elder album even though it was unfortunately underrated - all of the songs are superb !! Up to this day I often listen to The Elder !!
This was a trying time for a lot of rock bands who tried to stay 'current' with the musical trends of the 80's. As you can see image wise it was a major misstep in their career. Also it was a transitional point for the band as well since Peter was gone and Ace soon to follow. Im pretty sure he doesn't play on this track at all.
@BassFever74 KISS were trying a new image and they were copying some of the latest new wave fashions at the time. It did'nt work so they back to their long hair and old image
@BassFever74 They also copied the looks of younger acts like Bon jovi & Ratt. It's funny that when they got back to Revenge they had every look on the planet, BUT their own.
They were going for a new look and kinda going along with a trend. Concept albums rarely work, but they tried to make a go of it. If you want a concept album, try Pink Floyd, The Who, and actually WASP with The Crimson Idol.
@timm441 The album didn't work because it was a bad album...it didn't work because people never took KISS seriously and because fans were too use to KISS just being a rock band. One thing I hate is when people say KISS are not talented and they were just a make up band. This is so far from the truth. KISS wrote great songs and they do have talent. Maybe not like RUSH but you don't have to be complex to be a great band. Oh none of this is torwards you, just continuing off what you wrote
@themusicman777 hehehe I just realized it sounds like I said it was a bad album. worded it wrong...I meant The Elder is a great album and the reason it didn't work was not because it was claimed to be a bad album oh you get the point lol.
@BassFever74 Paul, Ace, and Eric cut their hair but Gene didn't. He wore it in a ponytail. Just look at the oath live around 2:44 seconds or so and you clearly see his ponytail and it is even in pics.
I LOVE The Elder...ADORE it,...Would give anything to hear some of it played live. ...and Im tired of Kiss either dumping on it or ignoring it entirely. Usually its Paul who does all the ragging....Something tells me that Gene could be persuaded to play stuff off it, afterall, it was mainly his baby. But until that day, we'll all just continue hearing Rock n Roll All Night, Deuce, Detroit Rock City, and all the other classics we've heard 3, 874, 512 times already.
The album was ahead of its time, back when it was released. KISS fans weren't ready for this sound. now 30 years later , people are talking and understanding just how good of an album this was. I like all generations of KISS from the beninning to the disco era to elder to non make up KISS and now back to the currant line up. They can play any song any night . I wish they would play more rare never before played songs, like "all american man" that sounded so good, why dont they do that more.
@01po01po indeed my friend, well i think fans should ask for them to play it, remember 30 years ago the record was i big failure so kiss thinks that the fans dont like it so they dont play any songs from it!
@01po01po I like, just like you, all Kiss Eras. And this album was amazing; a combination of progressive rock, heavy metal and medieval sounds. Amazing! Having them playing all those rare songs would be a dream. Regards
What if the Elder had been released before KISS' prime, before the merchandise?
I didn't like it as a kid, but from a purely musical standpoint, it's a high mark creatively. The Elder wasn't bad, just the timing, imo.
Think it stands equal with Destroyer and Revenge on a songwriting and conceptual level. Know Ace was on the way out, and Bob Ezrin was on coke, and Gene/Paul may have been overzealous (shockingly). But it's a solid record.
This album was released ahead its time. Fans in '81 didn't like it, but today's fans would love it if it were release these days. KISS sould make a tribute tour for this album called "The Elders."
Damn this song is simply amazing. The voices are amazing. Why don't KISS play this song live cause it is trully lovely and beautiful. This is what KISS need to play live.
@kissmusiclover to add something to what the other guy said,it was also ment to be a soundtrack to a movie. The details are a bit fuzzy around that subjeckt.I'm not sure if kiss was suppose to produce the movie or just add the soundtrack.Anyway it was never made.Since the "soundtrack" flopped big time it got canceled.
As far as playing it more often goes.Live kiss only plays they're greatest hits: strutter rock'n roll all night etc
there is a vid on the tube wher they play just a boy by request
KISS una de las mejores bandas de todos los tiempos supieron su originalidad y creatividad imponerse y mantenerse este disco es excelente
