"Jell-o" is the name of a company that makes instant desserts. The name just happened to become synonymous with instant gelatin in the American vocabulary. The "Jell-o" company also makes instant pudding and instant custard.

If you say "Jell-o" over in the US, people will assume you're talking about gelatin.
