Wow! What a piece of music! I just can't get enough of Pat!
I like Antonio Sanchez, but in my personal opinion he's too much of a straight forward typical jazz drummer.... I still prefer Paul Wertico, who was far more versatile, more modern, had better taste and knew how to move outside the lines with Pat....I also wonder how Pat and Lyle can manage to stand close to each other nowadays, after 35 years of music together! Both are incredible geniuses, too!
Those "Monsters" actually played opposite one another, before we lost Jobim.
But yes, yes...you are so right!
Antonio's smiling down from Heaven, at the work of myriad musicians he influenced: Sinatra, Ella, Metheny, Brian Hughes. Hell, name a jazz guitarist today, Jobim had a profound effect on their music!
You know what you're talking about Dude. So refreshing.
PM has been a fave of mine since I watched him on Austin City Limits back in the late 70's. I am of Mexican descent so having Sanchez in the Group makes the admiration a little more special. What can Brown do for you?
Very nice! I usually don't like the sound of a jazz guitar (prefer piano and sax), but Pat's playing makes it a lot better for me :P also props for the bass player, supernice soloing!
Steve Rodby has influenced my own upright playing. The Consummate musician, and a master of the double bass. He IS a major factor in the PMG. BTW, Love that rich full upright sound.
by the way this "guy" called tom jobim happens to be the later antonio carlos jobim, the brazilian, who wrote some of the most accomplished songs of the 20th century. jobim died in 1994, before that he and pat perfomed live in rio de janeiro, where metheny has lived for 6 years.
The song is originally composed by a guy called Tom Jobim. They did a cover of the song I think they haven't relesed their own wersion on an album, but might be wrong.
Never heard a bass played so magnificently! the tone, rhythm, and player are incredible!

....è la versione più "commovente" di questo meraviglioso brano....manca solo un solo di Lyle Mays, con quel suo stile leggero e sognante...

Rodby's groove and solo are a great example of style and attention to one's sound - you can tell he studied with Rufus Reid!

Antonio Sanchez is the future.
I can't believe I actually used to sit next to this guy in a class at Berklee. Had no idea he would be here in 10 years.

I think this lineup(Lyle Mays,Pat Metheny,Steve Rodby,Antonio Sanchez,Cuong Vu) has played on Speaking of now and The Way up.

@Jewlampijs95 Richard Bona was on this tour as well.

If we're talking about the speaking of now live we have to mention richard bona, even though Cuong and bona arent playing on this song.
btw, the drum mixing screws in this whole live concert
