So in 10-12 years, the human race for example, almost doubles. So if we have 9 billion now, in 10-12 yrs , it be 18 Bil. Well I can see both sides of the arugement. Im more of a "truth seeker" than a bill gates fan but I think it makes sense. Im still not gun-ho about vaccines but think about it...
Back in the day people had like 8 kids because they needed help with the farm er w.e and alot of kids died early to disease. Not to mention people died at like 40 er 50.
Now we dont have farms, ppl live longer, and kids dont die frm bullshit so we dont have as many kids.

Not killing off billions with poison vaccines, but the high infant and juvenile death rate. Most people do not understand exponential growth. If they did, they understand why these programs are important. Exponential growth refers to the doubling time. So in 10-12 years, the human race for example, almost doubles. So if we have 9 billion now, in 10-12 yrs , it be 18 Bil. The planet can not sustain more then 20 bil tops, even with advanced farming techniques, let alone oil, fresh water, livestock, metals and other natural resources.

In the most developed countries, population growth is lower than in developing countries. We don't have to have 10 babies to only see 4 of them live, so they can work on the farm just to survive and only get limited education.

They don't even care about the quality of their children's lives, who will grow up and inherit an overpopulated, polluted planet full of illness and scare resources. @spinemelter2000 There was overpopulation when there was one man on the earth because he didn't have any food, any shelter, etc. He couldn't survive on the earth, and therefore it was overpopulated. Today, we live better than ever and we live longer than ever because there are more people. More people equal new ideas and labor that make our lives worth living. If not, we would still be chasing rabbits and digging roots.

@guyjohn59 If that's true, why is water scarcity a problem in countries like India? Why are governments and nonprofit organizations wasting money and effort on educating people on resourcefulness and recycling? If we had limitless resources, people wouldn't care about going green. Think about how much natural resources are used and how much garbage is produced by the average person during a lifetime. Multiply that by the population.

@spinemelter2000 Scarcity isn't a problem because it gets dealt with through prices. If water becomes scarce, its price goes up, people use less, there is an incentive to increase supply, and in doing so we find solutions better than if the temporary shortage never occured. Things can only become a permanent shortage when they are monopolized, prices aren't allowed to rise, and innovation is therefore stifled. Its discussed in Simon's 'UItimate Resource'

@firelionguate how are the vaccines going to save lives and depopulate Africa at the same time? I'm confused.
Why is he focusing on African vaccines and global warming at the same time? Aren't they separate issues. The Eco footprint of most Africans is a tiny fraction of most Americans. What we need less of are filthy rich billionaires who spend their time on issues like these. Why not dedicate himself to ending hunger in America?

the problem is not that the world is overpopulated.. the problem is that its over populated with useless eaters... turn on any american tv show: jerry springer, maury povich, jersey shore, judge judy and the list goes on.. the people portrayed on these shows clearly demonstrate that the world can be without these fools. and even tho i am anti NWO i do believe that we can rid the planet of useless eaters and allow a prosperous path for humanity. only the idiots take the vaccines. let them.

It seems that it would be the opposite. if you're sick you're not going to be having many kids, but even if that is the case, it's not signifiant, especially if your curing the half of the population with AIDS and malaria. The two things are exclusive. You can't save lives and decrease population.

Women in Africa have more children because of the high mortality rate. Children are vital for the survival of the older relations,(a kind of insurance policy). If you EDUCATE the Mother and Father to have less children, and then improve healthcare for all, the result is fewer but healthy survivors to look after the older family members.

If he is referring to the theory that sick people have more children as an insurance policy I don't beleive it because then those children have just as much risk of becoming sick and immediately dying so how does that increase the population? But it doesn't matter anyways because he is significantly involved in Planned Parenthood and those who outright call for sterilization and abortions.

When someone rich wants to think of ways to constructively reduce the population, I just assume that they have an good constructive way of reducing a population, (which is dangerously high). Gates has lots of money to something sensible with, and good for him. Apart from that, Iam not following what you are saying, sorry.

@mcwolfus I don't think it's a cultural thing, most people think population growth is a problem no matter where they're from. It's not though, and that's not an oversimplificiation, because there is so much literature on it. So the means are generally in question when the aim is flawed to start with.

@guyjohn59 Dude, we are approaching 7 billion on this planet, (a couple more billion due in the next decade). Many are desparate to be westernised, and many again aspire to US style consumption. Now, if they they going to demand their right to the remains of the worlds resources, and turn those resources into CO2 etc, we are probably going to be in even bigger trouble faster than you think.
US culture for many (not saying you) = creationism//conspiracies/ cover ups/and some extreme beliefs.
