I have only spent two years learning about it in college but I have learned enough to know that the people owning slaves were smart people and were adept exploiting slavery. some were sold into slavery for 7 years after which the owner would have to free them and give them land (give land or kill slave)

It is widely reported by the slavers own writings that a good number of slaves didn't like being whiped(I wonder why?) and would still refuse to work after being severely beaten so they would have to be killed. The number of slaves killed for trying to escape, refusing to work, died from punishment, etc is about 1/4 of the population in 1860 there were 4 million slaves, 1/4 of 4 million you do the math.

The new Constitution gave the colonial slave a new status in the new USA , he was now legaly identified as a PERSON. They also had to face the consequences of that action as the 13 Colonies did with England. Providence decided that the Colonies would win the war for FREEDOM. God gave Natural Rights to all races of men and some of the States had taken what God had given.

Heavy taxation via the Morril Tariff was part of Lincoln's platform. The reason slavery still even existed was because of Northern taxes draining us.

@SouthernFriedHoney I do not know how well free speech was exercised, but if you knew anything of history, you would know that until the 20th Century, it was ruled that the Bill of Rights (including free speech and press) only applied to the Federal Government. The states could do whatever they wanted. Then in early 1900s, people used the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment to incorporate most of the BOR. The First Amendment even reads "CONGRESS may make no law"

The 38 sioux warriors that were executed were executed in Mankato, Minnesota, which is where I went to college. It is the largest mass execution in US history. What the video does not mention is that Lincoln pardoned 265 warriors that would have been executed as well.
The fighting between the whites and the native americans at that time was very brutal so it is surprising that only 38 went to the gallows.
I'm not trying to absolve Lincoln of executing those men, but if you have heard the stories about what happened during the conflict you would be hard pressed not send some of them to the gallows.

It is widely reported by the slavers own writings that a good number of slaves didn't like being whiped(I wonder why?) and would still refuse to work after being severely beaten so they would have to be killed. The number of slaves killed for trying to escape, refusing to work, died from punishment, etc is about 1/4 of the population in 1860 there were 4 million slaves, 1/4 of 4 million you do the math.

@dcj991--The founder’s tried to be rid of it, but to bring the USA into existence took a compromise. The new Constitution gave the colonial slave a new status in the new USA , he was now legaly identified as a PERSON. Maybe only 3/5 but it was the begining of the end for slavery. 3/5 so the slave states could not have dominion in the new Fed Gov and be able to promote it, keep it alive and open it to new territories. All PERSONS posess Natural Rights and the first right is LIBERTY!.

They also had to face the consequences of that action as the 13 Colonies did with England. Providence decided that the Colonies would win the war for FREEDOM. Providence also decided that the South would lose the Civil War so that FREEDOM would be restored to the slaves. God gave Natural Rights to all races of men and some of the States had taken what God had given.

@lomocan ----- if the Union was a gentleman’s agreement than the way they left was fine. But the Union is NOT that, it is a contract made into law through ratification. To have left, 3/4 of the states needed to dissolve the Union ending the law we call the US Constitution. The Fed Gov limited authority over all the states ends. The South could do as they pleased then. The North could then have ratified a Union Constitution for themselves. SLAVERY IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY! Best it it over.

Wow, as per the comment about Lincoln not being on the Southern Ballot in 1860, this is true. The republican party felt they could not win here so they only campaigned in a few places, however Lincoln was on three southern ballots. Oh, and the by the way, under the electoral college system, Lincoln was the clear winner of the election, the majority of the Counrty voted republican. @TheRebelpreacher Many other factors contributed to the south leaving. The reason a lot of states ever put slavery as a reason was because Radical Yankees got so insane and hostile. It was the equivalent of the middle finger. The fact that south carolina seceded first says volumes as they were the state who almost left in the 1830's over taxes. Heavy taxation via the Morril Tariff was part of Lincoln's platform. The reason slavery still even existed was because of Northern taxes draining us.

@SouthernFriedHoney I do not know how well free speech was exercised, but if you knew anything of history, you would know that until the 20th Century, it was ruled that the Bill of Rights (including free speech and press) only applied to the Federal Government. The states could do whatever they wanted. Then in early 1900s, people used the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment to incorporate most of the BOR. The First Amendment even reads "CONGRESS may make no law"

The 38 sioux warriors that were executed were executed in Mankato, Minnesota, which is where I went to college. It is the largest mass execution in US history. What the video does not mention is that Lincoln pardoned 265 warriors that would have been executed as well.
The fighting between the whites and the native americans at that time was very brutal so it is surprising that only 38 went to the gallows.

He was trying to look out for everyone. People don't think and don't understand economics well at all. Slavery was being phased out. You can't free 4 million people overnight without killing everybody due the economy being pulled out from under it's feet. Many free blacks willingly fought for the south.

ALL OF THE WRITERS and framers of the US constitution agreed that the states had the right to secede.. as long as their people voted to do so.
