  • her bass guitar they have a pret.?

  • The best!

  • One of the best versions of "Naima" I've ever heard.

  • Anyone else hear the same lick as the song the scarecrow sings in Wizard of oz? Or am I trippin?

  • @nitemare1993 yes i thought i heard w.o.z. " If I Only Had A Heart "

  • @nitemare1993 you are right!!

  • Naima

  • Does it really matter who's the best bassist ever? There's no avoiding the fact that this man was talented.

  • Remember kids, this is an art form - not a sport.

  • @fnub Simply superb comment!!! \m/ (:o)

  • 0:45 sounds like Coltrane's Naima.

  • @sixstringsamurai88 It is Naima I think. I knew I recognised it.

  • There's something about the sound and look of that boutique fretless. I almost wish he'd always had it.

  • who know the name of this bass 2:10????

  • JACO WAS THE BEST

  • can anyone tell me please what scale is this?

  • boring

  • That strange bass his playing on,is a handmade Danish bass, called Mørch.Really good stuff.

  • (listens to the song)"That tone!"

    (Relises he's playing naima)"HELL YEA!!"

  • pastoriuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus

  • Another great bass player is Ralphe Armstrong who played for Jean Luc Ponty .His

work on JLP's " Enigmatic Ocean " 1977 is amazing . Allan Holdsworth is also on this album.

  • It was Jerry's bass for the video, its was a custom made by Ave Rivera....I've heard it before..awesome tone and greta workmanship on that axe!!!

  • WoW

  • well this takes a dump on anything i can do. time to go throw my bass into a lake :D

  • Didn't Jerry Jemmot have a bass like this?

  • What bass is this? its incredible looking, one of the greatest shapeped scroll basses i have everseen

  • @tbass130 There's a fascinating book about Jaco called "Jaco, The Extraordinary and Tragic Life of Jaco Pastorious", by Bill Milkowski which comes with a CD of rare recordings, and is one of those books which is really difficult to put down! Anyway, I think it mentions that Jaco borrowed that bass for those sessions, and I think it notes what kind of bass, but I'd have to look through the whole book to find out. In the meantime, if you don't have the book, you should get it!

  • @tbass130 Looks like a Carl Thomson to me.

  • @beelzebunge nah, cant be...

look at the headstock, it's not the classic carl thomson headstock

  • @Jakeocide I don't know. He's made alot of basses and none of them are the same.

  • what's the name of the other bass he was playing there, i don't mean the fender Jazz, you know :D that was his "brand bass"

  • MuDvAyNe - Severed

better than this noise. check it out live too. its great bass.

  • @ikejones1 dont ever call Jaco's music "noise" that's an insult

  • Oh... Good. I'm not the only one that looks like I'm having sex when I play.

  • non ho mai visto nessun altro vivere nel suo strumento come lui.

  • this is carl thompson bass?

  • @buokopter

it's an abe rivera. it looks like a ct cause of that wicked horn and the striping, but CT generally doesn't do flat topped basses.

  • @buokopter I think it may be a Rex Boge. he made instruments for Miroslav Vitious

  • You were talking the other day about .... WHAT!?!

  • His bass in the bigger screen is godly

  • I could not understand how such tragedy could happen to this guy? What a real talent and pioneer of music. We miss ya all Mr Pastorius but your music will live on.

  • NAIMA

  • this is jaco.

  • i love how the design of the bass seems to be inspired by an upright bass. especially that curl. what kinda bass is it?

  • Comment removed

  • Thats a sexyy ass fretless, love the body, strage pickups, an the head is goofy. Put like a Rickenbacker head on it and that thing would be a boss! Ohh yeahh and Jaco is the best.

  • geniooooo soy pane jaja

  • - Ugly bass

    - Beautiful music

  • @BassmrDK What were you expecting in the 70s???

  • The bass is incredibly difficult to be expressive on. Gives you some idea of the depth of Jaco's talent.

  • Nice ear!

  • It looks very much like Mørch Bass - build in Randers, Denmark

  • Yes, its sold at Ed Roman Guitar in Vegas along with some of his other basses.

  • @saildog0077.....you've been to jaco pastorius' house?.....can i be you, please?

  • never knew jaco played carl thompsons. those are some cool basses...

  • I don't think it's a carl thompson, look at the headstock. It looks like one, but I think it's european. Does anyone know for sure what this thing is?

  • whatever it is i'd certainly like to know. i've see many many basses with upper horns like that. i really want one.

  • @singaporesling1017 ,

It is an Abe Rivera that was loaned to him by Jerry Jemmott

  • That Fretless that Jaco is playing belongs to BB Kings old bassist Jerry Jemmont. He let jaco use it for this video. I dont know of the maker though. Doesnt sound as crisp as his jazz bass. This bass with some ggod strings then it would sound even better. But I love how it looks.

  • This is even more amazing listening to it high xD

  • does he use his third finger to pluck?

  • yeah that's a jaco pastorious own tecnic.

  • I do that, too. I never knew there was anything unusual about it, though.

  • Comment removed

  • @singaporesling1017 then why's he famous and you'r not

  • Because he's much better than me, as well as nearly every other instrumentalist who ever lived. I simply stated that, because I'm self taught and was never told it was wrong, I pluck with my third finger quite often. I thought it was interesting, and I think you're an asshole.

  • This is Carl Thompson bass.

  • no, it's not.... firstly the headstock isn't a Carl Thompson design. second, all of carl's basses have rounded edges, where they're obvioussly solid on Jaco's bass.

  • It's a Mørch, IIRC. A danish luthier.

  • I know the bass, I played the bass at Jacos house in Derfield fl after he had it given to him. It was made for him by a Danish luthier as stated by Swedishbass. Just listen to the notes being played...

  • then can i touch your hands!? :D

  • its cool how he has the markers but no frets

  • what a god.

  • who are you callin a nigga for

  • Yes it's Coltrane's "Naima"with "Continuum" (one of Jaco's own compositions) bolted on.

  • JACO IS THE BEST

  • @almacalima JACO WAS!!!!!

  • @almacalima

i vote Les Claypool is the best

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Les is a great player in his own style. But Jaco was a pioneer of bass and I guarantee he was an influence on Geddy who in turn influenced Les.

  • @cranie4

well that certainly makes sense, knowing Les's influence. But i think Les has just reinvented the bass, kinda like Michael Hedges on the guitar...

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA I really like Les and Primus (sucks) but I'm interested to hear your opinion on how he did that and what specifically.

  • @cranie4

well if you asked that question, you'd never understand anyway. to each his own...now leave me alone(rhymed)

  • he's just AWESOME!

  • simply masterful playing

  • neck -through-bodies are sexy, especially that one

  • feels like the curves of a girl litterly...

  • any good guitar should.

this means flying Vs and all those gimmicky metal guitars/basses are bullshit, btw

  • i hate V's l

i have a les paul guitar

    and a beautifully shaped bass

  • @KreatorOfDeath1985 Yes, the Jazz bass is a very beautifully shaped bass ;)

  • Is Jaco playing Naima by John Coltrane? I recall it from the McLaughlin/Santana album.

  • i love Jaco!

  • The fender jazz bass is fretted, the other one is fretless.

  • cool

  • thats the same body of the fretless he only changed the neck to a fretted maple neck

  • is that a fretless hes playing

  • even when he fucks up it is GREAT!
