After my exchange with Neilpete2 below, I again contacted the BLM at Canyon City. They responded back again that NO claims can be staked on Cache Creek, and that the ones referred to were invalid. Running around the hills and sticking white PVC pipes in the ground does not a legal claim make. I have posted the latest BLM e-mail and the BLM map they supplied on my web site Forum, under Western Gold States for all to see. Triple w (dot) goldadventures (dot) biz Randy C-17A
Incorrect. I was on open BLM property. The one active claim you refer to is closer to Hwy 24 just west of the old Granite store, not on BLM land. It's further down the creek. Also, the rest of the whole Cache Creek park is/was closed for mineral entry, meaning it's not open to claiming. I contacted the BLM office in Canyon City when some folks TRIED to claim the whole valley. They didn't do their research. I have e-mails for BLM saying none of the supposed claims are valid. Randy
You were trespassing on a registered claim in Cache Creek. 640 acres just above the Granite store surrounding the granite cemetery. Except for 10 acres owned by the Shanna claim, it's all claimed by Turquoise Connection. Has been for decades, since it became BLM land. So in essence, you stole gold from these folks. They also have claim to both sides of the highway and Arkansas river from Granite to Twin Lakes. People need to do their research. You can be jailed for claim jumping.
Simply go to eBay and search on Wolf Trap Sluice....you'll see his 5-riffle, 30 inch long sluices for sale. About $96 plus shipping. A great sluice for fast water operations and moving max material in a day. I have 3 sizes of Wolf Trap sluices. Key is to run the water deep & fast and clean up often. Good luck! Randy "C-17A"
That looks like a nice way to make some extra money. We have a Cache creek up where i am in BC that is supposed to have plenty of gold in it. Seems clear how these rivers got there name.. ;-) Can you buy these sluice boxes at outdoor centers, or is this a special mail order item? I really have no idea where to get one of these... Could always find someone to build one i suppose.
Thanks for watching! If you haven't sluiced in this part of Colorado, in the middle of the CMB, or Colorado Mineral Belt, it's highly mineralized. LOTS of iron & magnetite & hematite. Clogs the sluice box riffles real fast. I try to use a rare earth magnet to pull as much magnetite out before sluicing. Really keeps the riffles cleaner! Good luck! Randy C-17A
great videos randy i have a dfs sluice been doing most of my prospecting here in missouri plan on going to colo in july to see family denver is were i was born and raised off of 65th and tennyson 6591 tennyson would love to see more videos and videos on diy things for gold thanks again for what you have and are doing
Like you say, I know why I am out there and having fun going for the gold. I do like to share my thoughts, experiences and techniques/rational for doing what I do, or how I do things, more to explain than defend my mothod of prospecting. There's an endless number of ways to do it, some work better than others, and I enjoy sharing mine! Heavy pans, Randy C-17A triple w (dot) goldadventures (dot) biz
You shouldn't explain yourself to anybody. You know what you are doing, and you are enjoying it. That is all that matters, not what anyone thinks of your prospecting. You are doing great and inspiring us all!
I haven't heard much of anything about gold in/near C.Springs. Maybe Google up gold panning Colorado Springs and see what you get. The places I know about are the Cripple Creek area, Fairplay area, and over on the Arkansas around BV, Granite & Leadville.

Just West of Granite, Colorado, on Forest Road 398 & 398A, up at 9,200 feet, off of Hwy 24 between Leadville & Buena Vista. Just MapQuest up Granite, CO. Look for the Granite Cemetery on FR 398A, park, walk over the hill to the creek, prospect with a pan, sluice, detector or drywasher. No dredging or highbank except in the one BLM designated area at the Southwest corner of the BLM property. Good luck!! Randy C-17A triple w (dot) goldadventures (dot) biz
Finding gold...well...how to tell a spot has gold? Always go where gold has been found before, the old miners never got it all. Second read the area, geology, and sample pan the most prospective aread where nature/gravity will help collect it for you...bottom of washes, gullies, creeks, Gravity ALWAYS pulls down, gold moves deep. I sampled the material on the bedrock in my favorite dry gulch, layers in the hillside. The gulch bottom had more, so I work it! Sample pan around. Randy
Got it. Yes--both will surely catch the coarse gold too. If size isn't an issue, I recommend the bigger, 30 inch, 5 riffle bar model he sells on eBay these days. More area & riffles to catch fine gold & lock it away. I find the tiny, pounded, flat flakes the most challenging to capture...lots of surface area, little weight, swept easily by moving water (flood gold) and lays flat on black sand, slow to settle to the bottom of your sluice box or gold pan. Good luck! Randy C-17A
I have both the Wolf Trap & Le Trap sluices. The two are totally different, but work extremely well for fine gold. The Le Trap is a molded plastic drop riffle design, much like Angus MacKirk products. The Wolf Trap has riffles set into a 1 inch dead well, to get fine gold below the water flow & keep it there. Either would be good to put after your homemade sluice. Can you borrow one from a buddy? Randy C-17A
Thank you for the response, but I'm not sure you really answered my question, I know about the Le Trap and Wolf Trap and how each looks, my question was about the more coarse gold, can I assume the WOLF Trap will also catch the COARSE gold? Thanks!
Do you think the riffles would also catch the more coarse gold? I want to use this for an overflow sluice to a sluice I constructed, the sluice I built is supposed to be designed to catch fine gold, but I need to test it. I wanted to possibly use a Wolf Trap sluice to run the material through right after the first sluice, but I also need one that will catch larger pieces in case my homemade sluice does not.

Last time I was there I saw some new claim markers going up North East of the first gate on powerline road. Is this part of the park ?
