THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF ALL BRIDGES WERE BUILT TO A PROPER STANDARD AND STRENGHTENED TO RESIST SUCH AN IMPACT TO STOP A 40 TON TRUCK FROM GOING OVER THE EDGE THIS MUST BE A LEGAL REQUIREMENT TO PREVENT FURTHER TRAGEDIES.
I was stuck on the motorway for about 3 hours when this happened, at first they said it would be re-opened at midnight but luckily it was opened earlier!
Tony didn't have a heart attack mate, apparently so i'm told, he broke his neck when the truck went over, vosa and the ministry checked the wagon and didn't find any faults, the police say the investigation could take several months before the outcome, but it appears that he was cut up by a car and swerved to avoid it, as there were skid marks on the road from the inside to the out, he was definitely alive when he went over, my opinion is, the container took him over.
CLEARLY something went wrong with wagon, i been driving 12 years now and seen alot of accidents in my time and 1 thing i have learnt is that the stobart group are the most professional drivers out there which concludes to why im saying there must of been something go wrong with the wagon, in my opinion i would say maybe something went wrong with the suspension or had a blowout on the front left wheel. thoughts and prayers go out to the family, R.I,P. driver
@sammo2510 Stobarts are no more professional than any other HGV drivers every single one of them was trained exactly like me, the diffrence is they are paid less than my drivers and they wear a uniform, if you want the truth Stobarts name is like mud in the haulage industry and if it wasnt for tesco they would have gone broke long ago.
i heard that the driver had an heart attack and when he was going through the corner he collapsed and turned his steering wheel to the left that's why he fall of the bridge to M56 :(
8manyoo. Sorry for the loss of your mate however, your comment re Stobart is total rubbish! Your drivers are a total joke on the roads, and most of your wagons are not limited to 54-56 by the amount that come flying past me on a regular basis, especially on the M50! Why you guys put yourself on a pedestal & think your the best is beyond me! & yes, I am an artic driver of 20yrs + & work for a very good company!
As to what happened, at this moment in time, the only conclusion i can come to, is something went terribly wrong with his truck, i'm truly gutted and devastated at the loss of a good colleague, R.I.P Tony, our thoughts are with you and your family at this such tragic time.
@8manyoo Im not a keen supporter of stobarts and thier maritime partners, we are all trained the same we sit the same test stobarts are no more elite than my guys especialy the two i have on STGO work, the only thing i can commend them on is safty and vehicle maintinance, however after talking to alot of stobart drivers im happy to say my drivers are paid alot more to do the same job.
@8manyoo my condolencies to the driver and his family the haulage industry although slightly apart is still close together, its a shame to see another casualty be it cyclist car lorry or coach.
@mariameskell040349, the driver was a colleague of mine at Widnes Ports depot, he was a good man and true professional, what u say about us Stobart drivers being rushed around by our planners couldn't be further from the truth, we have that many trucks on the road, if a driver can't do a certain job then it's allocated to someone else, Eddie Stobart is by far the best haulage, and best run company in the country, as a tramper, i haven't been back to base yet to find out the facts as to what hap
