If violent hip-hop makes you go out and do violent things, then (by logic) positive hip-hop (Common, Talib, Lupe...etc) will make you do "good" things.
What Jamie presents is a stick-man argument (falls apart when put up against logic) . That's like saying a guy on steroids gets roid rage and beats his wife, when there is no scientific basis in roid rage. You were going to beat your wife anyway.
No hell no man that's a phucken cop out!! IT ALL STARTS @ HOME! I was sneaking & Listening to Ice-T & Too Short talking about pimping & killing but that shyit didn't influence me 2 do it, because MY MOTHER taught me better!
This is bull shyit, IF parents do their phucken jobs then things will change.. WHEN U ARE TAUGHT BETTER U DO BETTER! BOTTOM DAMN LINE!.....
Jamie is right we love the things we do so much , we can't give them up , even if what we like is wrong ! Instead of admitting were wrong and tring to do better , we justify and make excuses.....
Jamie is contradicting himself...You and I can listen to the same music and not go out and kill, but other kids aren't able to exercise the same sense of self-control.
It is the home and communities responsibility to cover children in a protective blanket, so don't blame it all on rap. Police do kill, Drugs have ravished whole communities, strip clubs are grimy, and so on
Condemn Scarface the movie, New Jack City, any these crime shows...We glorify violence over valor. Hip-Hop is the cause?
Its easy to say well the parents are bad, but lets be real, its impossible for a parent to block certain types of music from their kids.
Even if parenting is bad, thats not an excuse for hip hop to be bad also. Stop the excuses. Some change is needed. Everytime someone criticizes hip hop, the defendants response is "well so and so is bad too." So what? that don't make hip hop right. Rap is not the only reason bad things happen, but it is a part of the problem.
I agree it is fuel, but it isn't the engine. I'm just saying it has to be a source of the pain or feeling of not having anything to lose for a child to grow into a space where they only see, drugs, murder and money as all that is worth glorifying. I grew up seeing people deal, kill, and go down their own path. I was fortunate to have people beat some sense in me to make sure I stayed on a decent path. Hip-Hop and NWA didn't change that. I just don't see the value in blaming Rap for ills in house
Poestess is good example of Hip Hop making excuses for Hip Hop. The world has gotten the way it has for a reason. Think about it from a kids perspective, this crap sounds cool. She's talking about Hip Hop like she's a 40 something philanthropist on the subject. That's like Russel Simons on Oprah calling this crap poetry. The radio is so offensive to listen to as an adult let alone a child. Get the game right and help our people and quit worrying about getting yours. Your slinging ear crack!
how about this,,spend time with your kids,,stop partying so much,,spend time with your kids,,ride or die,,how about read or write with your kids,,---check this out,,i bet you can remember that bad ass party you went to last year, all of us can,,----OK,,can you remember when your baby first learned how to ride their bike,,,,,hmm
I don't think she is crazy. She just wasn't prepared to defend what she believes HipHop to be. NWA to some are a bunch of lewd and angry N!**@s with no purpose for being jaded or outraged about what they see.
I agree Rap can be lame and misguided, but to single out one medium that was born out of a sickness that is still prevalent in economic and social injustices is not courageous it is half-assed
Call people on being fake, but let's not act like NWA destroyed the world's humanity. Art/Life
A lot the the things Foxx says sounds good.
Everything in this world is an influence. Gotta be careful.

Jamie is right and exact. the music sets the mod. It's not the source but it fuels it.
