I worked with elephants in Nepal and bull elephants (which this one was) come into musth once a year which leads them to highly aggressive behaviour towards absolutely anything! The place I worked at learned their lesson after the Bull Elephant broke free, killed its mahout and came back to the village to tear it apart (killing three other people). This is nature. Keep them away from people and definitely no female elephants should be there! This is not a new thing, we all should have learned!

I have ridden elephants in Vietnam. It was an interesting excursion. I asked the guide how old the elephant we were riding was and he said 41! Two years younger than me! I was scared at first because we had an elephant go crazy at the circus in Honolulu in the mid '90's. My friends and I saw the whole episode .... rampaging across downtown Honolulu. The one I rode was really nice and docile. I hung out with her for a while after the ride and just pet her and talk to her. I think she liked me!
"Fight or flight" is usually the mantra of abused animals like this one. So very sad about the injured persons but didn't people know that this can easily occur when neglected animals with huge strength are let out amongst a taunting crowd!
And another thing is that keeping animals for entertainment is not a bad thing really. I mean I do feel a bit sorry for them to wear those silly outfits, but there also protecting it. An elephant can be subdued by the use if a tranquilizer. In Sri Lanka when elephants run amok they are bring subdued this way by the Vet of the Wild life department. I have personally witnessed a situation like this at religeous processions.

Imagine that was a human chained up, taken prisoner, made to dress up weird, disfigured (their tusks were cut), being mentally & physically dominated, loud music, noise, lots of people watching...
Any human would have done the same thing to try to survive. Its not the elephants fault.
God said treat life with respect, humans and animals, because they are all God's creation. This does not mean chain them and bring them to temples to worship. A better way to respect them would be to let them live in their wild surroundings without interference, in peace.

An elephant can be subdued by the use if a tranquilizer. In Sri Lanka when elephants run amok they are bring subdued this way by the Vet of the Wild life department. I have personally witnessed a situation like this at religeous processions.

God said treat life with respect, humans and animals, because they are all God's creation. This does not mean chain them and bring them to temples to worship. A better way to respect them would be to let them live in their wild surroundings without interference, in peace.
Elephants are wild animals, and just because they are herbivores does not mean they are any less of a danger to humans than say, a smaller carnivore like a wolf.
