Most of the students in the GAO report were not doing anything that would warrant restraint- yet some died as a result. The organization is advocating for the disabled children who cannot speak! Teachers should advocate FOR the disabled! They have their unions and WE HAVE IDEA WHICH REQUIRES THEM TO BE HIGHLY TRAINED. Let's just try to get schools to follow already existing laws- AND IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK NOT TO ABUSE DISABLED STUDENTS?
I am against harmful restraints and seclusion. However, are you organisation working towards safe restraints to help the teachers?
My friend who is a teacher working with autistic teens are suffering from scars on her body and lately internal injuries from her students. Anyone protecting the staff and volunteers?
That is where the missing component "training" comes into play. With proper training, the situations can be prevented rather than restrained. With proper supports in place, neither teachers or students get hurt, instead of hurting one while protecting the other.
