Good observation. No, it's not nitrous. Even stock RX-7's run richer than most cars. With an A/F ratio of 12:1 as opposed to 14:1, they naturally run rich. At full boost, the secondary injectors in the RX-7(850cc) come into play, but the gas doesn't get completely combusted in the engine, the white smoke is the excess gas being burned in the exhaust line.

@sjoey : Your correct that they are ussually tuned richer, but not 12:1. Try 10.8-11.1 MAX on a 2 rotor running big boost. Also, not even N/A cars run as lean as 14:1 AFR. That is near stoich, but too lean for most engines. Any high powered turbo car should be in the 11.1-11.8 AFR range. The rotory tuners ussually add a bit extra fuel for safety measure because the apex seals can be damaged so easily.

@skudvayne lol well i see theres no way of talking any since into you Mr.383. I was just pointing out that my cam ONLY ls1 was breaking 11's in the 1/4. Thats on a shitty tune and no traction. There are cam only ls1 fbody's running 10's out there and are still DD. The lsx and lqx motors are a force to be reckoned with.

really? what are your cam specs? my 383 70 chevelle is running low 11s, obviously its stroked, running a 282/282 @ .050" with .539"/.558' lift on 112 lsa cam... which is pretty big for a streetable car. plus i have all traction in the world with 13 inch wide m/t drag radials, all global west tubular control arms, and 150 shot of nos... im putting down just about 500hp with no bottle.... dont try to lie to somebody that races, and has built more cars than you have even driven.

Ran it once and got kicked from the track. Maybe you need to do some research before you call me out on a lie. Go ahead, look up cam only ls1 and watch the times they lay down.Come on guy. im not even all about the 2jz.. they're just indestructible. id rather have a jeep 4.0 inline six. i dont even like toyotas... but the ls1 is just an injected 350. theres nothing special about it. my 383 stroker smokes ls1s all day long and is just as reliable if not more reliable.

lol sry just watched it again. definately backfiring on excess gasoline. the car prolly got an after market ECU riching the fuel map up. and that big exhaust lowers the back pressure. my rx-7 backfires almost every time I let off the throttle.
