  • Isn't Boogaloo a racial slur towards Peurto Ricans or somethin?

  • This music is a message to Paul McCartney kk'

  • A great bunch of musicians that Ringo and George shared. Crazy fun song!

  • Man, thanks for bringing back some great teenage memories. I remember the blurry album cover.....wish I would have kept it.

  • MARC BOLAN ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

  • i wish i could turn on the radio and hear something new that's as cool as this!!

  • Smokin' hot slide guitar by George Harrison.

  • This song is created by Ringo always hearing Marc Bolin saying " Backoff Boogaloo" Thats what Tony Visconti said. Producer for T-Rex band in 70's

  • Song was inspired by Marc Bolan R.I.P Marc 34 years today

  • I just bought this album for three dollars on Saturday.

  • Heard on documentary that at that time Marc Bolan was a mate & collaborator(somewhat). He said that Mark was always coming out with these type of sayings. One of them was" back off boogaloo, back off boogaloo" & that's where the beginnings of tune started. Heard him say it, as mentioned above, more than once. Never a word about Paul being remotely involved. But then again, what do I know? : ) Love the tune though.

  • Mmm, it does seem to be about Paul...a good rocker all the same. Marc Bolan on lead guitar, or is it George?

  • SHEEEEEEEEEEEEES MY CHE-RRY PIE

  • whats with the crack about garcia...............

  • ugghhhh cause i saw the commnets PAUL IS NOT DEAD! I REPEAT PAUL IS NOT DEAD! if the song was bout mcartney it says dont pretend that you were dead not dont forget 2 you can copy the fact that he plays instruments left handed and plays drums becauser to find a replacement in such a short time wth that much talent is hard n kind of impossible to teach in that shorty of time 3 in 1963 or 4 b4 he "died" paul got into a moped accident which caused him to have scars on his lips which are still there

  • Georges slide is FUCKING AWESOME!!!

  • @OropherThranduil Grow some class!

  • @redwiddle

i'd rather use me balls than class.

  • @OropherThranduil Grow some chives.

  • @vonFelsenheim

    shut up -

  • @OropherThranduil You will not start a fight here, not on MY stuff.

  • In a 1977 interview, Starr explained that the phrase "Back Off Boogaloo" was inspired when he and fellow musician (and close friend) Marc Bolan had dinner one night, and Bolan used the word "boogaloo" multiple times in his sentences. Starr said that after dinner, when he had been half awake and half asleep, the beat and tune for the song had become stuck in his head.

  • Ringo is the man

  • To themindminder...How did you do that?

  • If you play this song backwards it says "ooןɐbooq ɟɟo ʞɔɐq"

  • @themindminder That's not even backwards; it's upside down.

  • This has always been my favorite Ringo Starr solo...Great chorus, and a very catchy beat...Thank you again for sharing this with all music fans on the Web...

  • BACK OF BOOGALOO!!!(:

  • This songs not about McCartney, anyone who thinks so needs a reality check. Some will tell you McCartney died in 1966 due to "clues" in songs, based on the same vague rubbish.

"Get yourself together now and give me something tasty" could mean Ringo wrote this about his chef, who gave him a below par meal one night. Or the song could actually be what it was really about, a word Ringo's friend Marc Bolan used. Nowhere is it noted that "boogaloo" was a nickname for McCartney. To claim so is tosh!

  • A shot at Paul from Ringo who early on in the 70's charted more top 10 hits than Paul. Yoko? Herion? egos? The real problem was the decision by John, George and Ringo to sign with Allen Klein. Paul wanted no part of Klein. His early solo tunes suffered in quality since Paul was forced to break completely with Apple, its studio, engineers, support, etc...to avoid possible litigation from Allen Klein. In the end, Paul was right. Still, a fine TREX inspired sound from Mr. Starkey.

  • This is definitely about Paul. I remember I was in 7th grade when this came out, although I didn't pick up "Don't pretend that you were dead" until I heard it 2 years later and had become familiar with that chapter of Beatle history. When it came out, the first thing the DJ asked was is he calling Paul McCartney names?

  • YEAH!

  • It is about John and that silly professional widow Yoko. They are the ones who needed to back off the Heroin.

When John woke up in 1980 and no longer wanted Yoko to run his life he got killed. It was a fortunate thing for her because now she didn't ever have to deal with an adult John.

Remember to John she was mother figure, to Yoko he was a dollar figure.

  • @TheGranule Not more silly claims about a hidden meaning in this song. This song is not about Paul, John or Yoko. Yoko gets a lot of crap said about her, yet Lennon fans can't wait to make him out to be some great man going on about world peace and love. Yes, AFTER he met Yoko, after she influenced him to do all that. John never had plans to leave Yoko. If anything it was the other way round. John cheated on Yoko several times, and they split once at her insistence for a period.

  • Q: All of my favorite Beatles solo cuts are Ringo's. Does that make me a bad person?

    A: No.

  • This song is about Paul. Don't forget that you were dead. Paul is a pompous ass. when he decided to start touring, he went to Jerry Garcia to find out how.

  • @TheElissaS Someone just found out that it ISN'T about McCartney.

  • @TheElissaS HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ABOUT PAUL!!! Stop being mean and just listen to this great song.

  • @rockyraccoon477 That's what I'm talkin' about, dude!

  • @rockyraccoon477 Boogaloo was a nickname for Paul

  • @rockyraccoon477 You know paul is dead Right he's been dead for almost 45 years

  • @W3BMAST3ER34 You... are such an idiot. McCartney is still around, & WILL be for a long time yet. I even bet YOU'VE heard that he's engaged yet again.

  • Love this song :))

  • Not about Paul, about himself about friends about the industry wasted on booze and dope. Ringo also covered Hoyt Axton and David Jackson's "No No Song" in '74, which observed ""No-no-no-no, I don't smoke it no more

I'm tired of waking up on the floor

No thank you please, it only makes me sneeze

Then it makes it hard to find the door"

    cha-cha-cha!

  • George Plays some sweet slide in this

  • Is this song about Paul McCartney?

"wake up meat head, dont pretend you are dead...." 0:34

  • @1FineYoungCannibal No clue.

  • @1FineYoungCannibal that line is about paul. yep

  • @1FineYoungCannibal good ear babe i never thought about the mcartney is dead angle!!

  • @1FineYoungCannibal Actually, i did some research, and Ringo said in 1977 that it was about his friend (who was in the band T Rex). He kept saying Boogaloo alot during dinner together. So it wasn't Paul McCartney he was talking about. I personally thought he was when i first heard it, but it isn't.

  • @NWMets To do all that research must take quite a while, doesn't it?

  • Haven't heard this song in many years! Hope Ringo had a happy 70th birthday!

  • hey boogaloo i believe Mr.Starr told you to "BACK OFF" ;D

  • they have some great information about what this song really means at SongSense.info, I can't believe what some songs REALLY mean.

  • YOU BETTER BACK OFF BOOGALOO!!!!!

  • Peace & Love

  • haha franz furdinand ripped off the first part for their chorus for one of thier songs, cant remmeber what its called but everyone knows it :)

  • Awesome song.

  • do you remember the three Alou Brothers who played baseball in 70's? Mattie, Phillipi, and Jesus. Oh yah, and Boog......Alou, Back off, boogalou!? Any way like the song, lots of old memories.

  • the song supposedly was written about McCartney, who struggled musically after the Beatles breakup til "Band on the Run" in 1974 .. "wake up sleepy head, dont pretend that you are dead " refers to the Paul is Dead rumors in 1969..

  • Happy 70th Mister Starr!

  • This song makes me wanna jump around

  • LOVE this song !

  • The drums are good.

  • I like this song from Ringo Starr

  • One of Ringo's finest. 5/5

  • Now it's 12. This is a very underated song. George Harrison's production and guitar work really makes this a fine Ringo tune. Cannot, for the life of me, get it out of my head though

  • Killer drumming by Mr. Starkey!

  • OHMIGOSH RINGO I LOVE YOU!!! I ALWAYS KNEW YOU WERE FUNNY!! awhh... i wish you were still 23!!!

  • Ringo shows who he is and what he is capable of with this song.

  • Ohh man, I love this song (and Ringo, of course).

"Get yourself together now and give me something tasty."

That line always makes me smile like a retard.

  • Ringo! love this song

  • lolz only ten coments XD thats a crying shame

  • Yes, it is. This is such a great song, & yet, only 11 comments? (You are # 11) That's stupid.

  • @ringkles22 hey it's a great song comments? we don't need no stinkin' comments at least we know!

  • @vmarkhills a year ago when I sed "only ten comments xD thats a cryin shame"

I meant that its a shame that barely anyone whatched it its a greate song so "back off you boogaloo"

  • Fun tune

  • is that marc bolan playing guitar?

  • Boy, I'd like to write to Ringo... OH WAIT, HE'LL THROW IT AWAY.

  • I'm gonna need to make sure that when I write to him about making Eagle scout, (when I do make it, that is...) that he doesn't throw it away...

  • @NyeTunes Do you fell left out? LOL!!!!

Make yout own life...talk to yer mamma.

  • For over 35 years, Ringo has been trying to convince anyone who'd listen that this is NOT about Paul. But it's obvious that it is, espcially the line "Get yourself together and give me something tasty"....at the time (1972) people were saying that Paul's solo work was pale compared to his Beatle songs. Ringo wanted Paul to "back off" his feud with the rest of the group and put more into his own songs.

  • That and "Wake up meathead, don't forget that you were dead."

  • @proken58 Oh please will you all just listen to this song. It's obvious it' s all about me

  • @mlmr11 that made me lol

  • YOU GO RITCHIE!!!!!!

  • Happy 69th Birthday, Ringo!

  • Classic!

And along with the entire "Ringo" 1973 LP...this one-off single (Produced by George Harrison) is my ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE of Mr. Starkeys' repertoire.

    Thanx fer it, m8..
