@burdinus I 100% agree and I hope to get there with time. I spend a lot of time playing tunes rather than practising so I don't improve quickly.....but I 100% agree - a few well placed riffs or techniques to fire the rhythm along....then "put on them rockin shoes"! Thanks for the comment for real! peace
I found your channel through a Dead Covers Project link. Prepare to become really popular! Thanks for your wonderful takes on the best music in the world.
SO glad I clicked on your link. I've been trying to learn this on and off for a couple of months and you have really inspired me to nail it. Thank you (from Nottingham, England)
@mcgriv Right on bro! It is a super fun tune to play and I do a pretty easy version of it. The more accurate version has some wicked finger picking but just getting in to the vibe is pretty inspiring. Hope you'll post up your version when you get it down.
@ShoorBaroor Great stuff! Hope it is coming along. I don't do any originals I'd ever share! haha. I stick pretty close to the dead and easy jam progressions for learning the fretboard.
My favourite Dead song done beautifully (single takes, lumps and all, are often the best) by one with a user name of my least favourite Dead song, no offense.
My god you give me goosebumps. Maybe it's just the song.. But a wonderful rendition none the less. Best cover I've seen.
And I'd just like to thank you for spreading the music of the Dead. They have had such an impact on my life that it brings me to tears. Never stop bringing people to their music.
I know my youtube account name is really stoopid but im 14 and love the dead. my dad showed them to me when I was in fourth grade and he showed me the video of jerry playing this song on 3-28-81. When jerry gets cranking I realized that his real love was music and nothing but that.
@enjoiskater134 Right on man - wish I had your taste in music when I was that age! That video is what inspired me to put this cover up as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment. peace out.
You are amazing man. I have had a guitar I bought and has sat here for about five years with a broken string and you just inspired me to go out and buy some strings and learn how to play it. Do you play out and about? Preferably just across the river. I would love to come up and see you play. Its only about an hour away
@Wharfmac Awesome! Stick with it and you will love it! I play out once and awhile - I've just recently renewed my search for a decent venue (pretty slim pickings in Ottawa). peace
thanks so very very very much for sharing one of my faves. Your videos are among my favorites..I got to see the Dead only once in my hometown in Illinois when they played at N.I.U. it is a good concert on archive.org and the Jack Straw song is dead on . You might like it, good download....hope you like it......thanks again. A dead head in Missouri USA
I have that exact sweatshirt, I bought it at a tourist shop in the SF around 2000. And dude, you taught me how to play one of my favorite songs, I just hope you can appreciate hope much that means to me.
What a great song.....Never heard it till my wife to me to see Furthur last year, and loved it...You make me like it even more...Now, I gotta learn to play it. Any recommendations for tabs?
vey sick indeed my friend. solid version. proud you ought to be, for when i search "althea"---grateful dead, yours is the 3rd in line right after the boys themselves.
Hey, I really love this song and your video is great. I probably account for 100 of your views ;) I am learning to play this song from the video. I am trying to figure out what that chord is at 1:09 and 2:20. Someone said C#m, but it does not look like the C#m in my chordbook.
@Bogamir yeah man the awesome little bridge/chorus part right there. Jerry obviously does more with it with all the walk-ups and stuff, and he plays the C#m as a barre chord. But with an acoustic guitar this is a great arrangement! Jkstraw you are the man! I have seen almost all of your videos and you're amazing! The voice sounds a lot like Brent Mydland! Great to see fellow deadheads out there! I just saw Further at the all good and they were GREAT!!! Keep on truckin' man! Good stuff
@Bogamir okay so it is supposed to be c#m and The chord that you are playing there although I am not sure if it is an open chord form of c#m it is in fact Amaj7. It is also used on the word "long" in long strange trip its been line in Truckin. Nice sweatshirt and nice job man
Hey - can anyone tell me what chord is being played during the lyrics "... i told althea that treachery....." - this section starts with a A major then it looks like it goes to a A minor - but I can't pick it out by ear or sight....?????
awsome man i wanted thank ya for commenting on my tambourne man. and tell you ur vids are awsome. i been learning from watchin you play lol. wish we could jam somtime.
Thanks man. I do practice it with the finger picking but can't do it well enough to get in to a groove and forget about technique...or actually get through the whole song :-) I've been woodshedding for awhile now - I guess it is just going to take awhile before I feel comfortable implementing them in to my style of jammin'
I'm just amazed from seeing the videos at how much Jerry used fingerpick - and then flip out the pick and use it for the solo - then back to pure fingerpicking for the verse again.
Ya I hear you...and added to that how integral Bobby is at allowing him to do it. I often overlook just what an amazing "band" these guys were while concentrating on Jerry's playing. Take one piece away and it just wouldn't be the same.
I play bass and just taught myself Althea playing to the Essen show and found your version, FRIGGIN AWESOME BRO! I play to check some of your others and jam to them with you! - Darkstar

@jkstraw you're already almost there and that's a lot more than most people (including me) can say - keep on truckin'!
