"The more difficult an issue is, the more local the solution ought to be."
Those are easily some of the wisest words and one of the rarest philosophies I've ever heard from a politician. Things like that are why I'm practically pleading w/ the heavens that this man be our next president! Ron Paul 2012!
well the negotian proces is led by american sovereignty and the communistic character of north corea is being interpretated from an american point of view. the war in corea was a chinese succes, it was an attempt to restore the chinese hegemony in south east asia, against western imperialsim, not for communism. a united corea would be bad for japan and is not on the american agenda.
... From the drudge report page, a link takes you to an article stating that this economic depression that we might be going into shortly will make the 1929 depression look like a walk in the park. Economic depression = hunger, sheer poverty, huge unemployment rate. We now can only pay interest, we MUST STOP BORROWING MONEY, but the other candidates have no intention in doing that. Ron Paul, save us!
I saw the supporters' page at RonPaul2008 DOT com, and I was amazed at how many economists support him! Anybody who has ever used a credit card before is bound to know that borrowing money when you can barely pay interest is a sure path to suicide. Vote for Ron Paul to save the country! If he loses, we will dive into economic depression.
Most states rarely interfere with the decisions made by local goverments. Only when there is a referendum usually caused by dissagreement or a mandate from the public does the State legislature interfere.
This is one of the reasons why you see so much discrepency between laws from one county to the next, such as dry states, curfews etc.
how can anyone not vote for Ron Paul after watching his interviews is beyond me. when has anyone seen another candidate whom YOU KNOW would NEVER lie. unfortunately honesty and integrity are simply not qualities people are looking for. thanks to Judy for being a Journalist
We just don't have anyone to vote for excpet for Ron Paul. We've lost so many freedoms and the foreign policy shared in common between ALL other other candidates keep our troops in 130 countries.
If we don't elect him, ALL others will keep using the government to control us, drive us into debt and send our kids all over the world to police them.
Forget about party and think about peace, truth and freedom. Ron Paul!!
I thought the principle behind the abortion argument was that a women should have a choice to decide what to do with her body, family, and life. Ron Paul is the greatest pro choice candidate ever in that sense. A Libertarian perspective is that the Federal government has no right to tell you how to live your life or manage your health. It is only there to protect Americans from foreign enemies and to preserve your freedom.
It all depends on how you define life. Ron Paul believes that a fetus is alive, therefore has as many rights as any other person, that an abortion takes away the right to live for that fetus. Besides that complicated issue, yeah he is the greatest "pro-choice" candidate in terms of personal freedoms.

Just to throw my 2 cents in... I doubt there is a candidate anywhere that I (and maybe even who YOU) could TOTALLY agree with, and I disagree with Ron Paul on a few issues (abortion is one)... but I'm voting for him anyway. I like his directness, honesty and his point of view on ENOUGH issues that I will vote for him even though we have our differences.
I love his answers. I especially loved his response about the Virginia Tech incident. Instead of trying to scare you into needing the government he admits freely that freedom is not perfect, but it's the way our constitution says we should live.

Great interview. Dr. Paul takes consistent principled positions on the issues. This is part two of the interview ... part one is on YouTube, too, if you're interested.
This candidate actually sounds like a sane man. He is passionate and articulate. I am spreading the word on Ron Paul and hope to God he wins, we need him to win! Take back America now!!!
Ron Paul's right about health care. I remember when there was no free health care, and no HMOs and private insurance didn't run medicine. I don't recall health care being even an issue, there were no stories of people being denied care or dying in the streets. And people were less affluent in those days. Now u hear about health care every day and problems with it.
They shoot drug pushers/sellers/smugglers in China. Very effective. I think we should do the same in the US. They laugh at our "War on Drugs". Singapore is also very strict about drugs and there's no problem of drugs over there.
But the culture of drugs has taken deep root in America, so I think that's why the war on drugs has failed, also Bush is completely corrupt and so are the CIA and others involved, Abramoff brought drugs into America.
The war on drugs isn't failed according to the globalists. They want it to be like this. They love that the drug culture has infected & taken over our society & young people. That means more controllable slaves & prisoners in the system that they can track & deny gun ownership to.
I thought I disagreed with Ron Paul on medical care, but his statement in this video has made me realize that I now agree with him on all issues 100%. I have never seen a politician like that.
Any way you look at Ron Paul one thing is absolutely unequivocally true about him that is not the case about the other candidates: he represents Freedom! And if you think that's rhetoric then look into him and I promise you will see, by the dictionary definition, that he absolutely stands for it more than any other candidate on the stage!
So all you pro-abortionists, why don't u agitate and call for the abolition of the laws that prosecute people who kill an unborn child in an assault on the mother because the person didn't kill any live thing?
I don't need the government to play parent guardian. I'm an adult and I do NOT need the government to fight the government's enemies in order to protect me. I need the government to just stay out of my way DON'T TREAD ON ME! These weaklings that need government help for everything are making me and the rest of us sick. Government ruins everything it touches. Ron Paul respects these wishes and he gets my vote.
'I want to be protected from drug addicts because they hurt other people.'
And you would be much safer if all drugs were legalised. If I want to buy some coke, i can find someone in probably 20 minutes in any major city. So what good is making them illegal? None, whatsoever. It is a ridiculous policy.
Don't be an idiot. Ending the asinine, failed federal drug war is not even close to the same as implying that people have some sort of right to consume drugs that would trump state drug laws.
Drug cartels and the black market in general are a result of a prohibition that has inflated prices. It not only makes the cartels rich but also moves money out of our country that should be staying in our economy. States can deal with the policy issue themselves according to their own challenges.
the gov. taxes you when you make it and taxes it when you spend it. If you make it illegally it is not taxed then it leaves the country and never comes back or is taxed and redistributed in our economy good point! you could balance the budget in one year with that revenue Ed Clark Libertarian candidate 1980 Legalize all drugs for adullts only and up the penalty for selling or supplying kids
Is it really relevant HOW the drugs got into a country? Even if the drugs had been brought in by the Chinese themselves and they had the same level of addiction it would cause the same problems, and would require the same solutions.
In China, there really is a ZERO tolerance for drugs. And also in other Asian countries, & it works.
You're absolutely right, a totalitarian, communist regime could very effectively keep people off drugs. Because, you know, a few extra crackheads roaming around is much, much worse than a complete lack of civil and economic liberties.
It isn't a conflict of interest for him to deliver a baby, but most politicians don't deliver babies. they would get fat paychecks for corporate "consulting" and working on K-street.
This is the reason why I won't vote for Ron Paul: "Withdraw troops from Japan." I have dual citizenship in Japan and the US, and I want every American mobilized to defend Japan and Taiwan in the coming war against China.
Troops in Europe aren't really necessary though (as if nationalism is coming back in Germany:P)! Just as in the Middle East and like a hundred other countries!!
Im an adult. The government doesn't have to 'protect' me from making my own decisions, only if my actions directly harm another. Someone taking ecstasy is stastically extremely unlikely to harm another human being.
Abortion should be a state issue because it's the rights of a person that doesn't technically exist yet vs. the rights of the mother. I'm glad no one chose to kill me when I was just a cluster of dividing cells, I couldn't exactly say no if they did. So remember it's Life then liberty and then the pursuit of happiness. Life comes first.
abortion is an issue the federal court must rule according to the lower courts decision. the fed gov't has no authority to rule. The power belongs to the local or state level courts.
Drug laws have the same application. I don't want the Federal government telling me I can't do drugs(I don't). If a city decides to make meth legal, so be it. If thats how they choose to live. If the state then declares it illegal, too bad meth town.
Drugs are the cause of many problems throughout the US, but the war on drugs in my opinion has failed. Drugs have not been stopped, but more users are going to jail then the sellers. That is not a winning war by my standards. Abortion should be a state, and local issue. The gov't cannot control money, military lives, or healthcare properly, so i cannot trust they could give us rule on such an issue as abortion.
although i am not an american and have no say. This man is the first candidate ive seen or heard in the last 6 elections that seems to have a grasp on whats actually happening in his own country. I wish him the best of luck and if i was a voter in the u s id vote ron paul
This is the only one running for president who understands what is happening to this country. We are an empire in decline, and we'd better change course soon.
Soooooo many of my friends and family are voting for Ron Paul. I've never seen this kind of consensus among all of the people I know. It's amazing.
My mother was very critical of Dr Paul until I showed her these videos and now shes an avid supporter. I strongly encourage all minors and teens to do the same. If we can't vote ourselves we must let our parents represent our vote. Freedom is popular. If only more people knew about it. Ron Paul 2008!
I'll vote for the only candidate that ever read "The use of knowledge in Society" by Hayek and use in its interviews. Ron Paul is amazing. You have my vote in the primaries.
Kudo's to PBS for conducting a legit interview, and lettting their quest answer the questions. Ron Paul is by far the best candidate have have seen in my 10 years of voting. He tells it like it is, and for the most part i agree with most of his views. I consider myself independent with more pull toward democrat. But come election time I will vote for Ron Paul. I will be scared if we elect anyone else on either side.
I agree his policy ideas are spot on...but It seems probable to me they gave him such a softball interview because they want him to siphon off support from republicans like Perot did in '92 and lock up a win for the Dems.
The controlled media may indeed want a Democrat to win this time. However, all that has to be done is to give Ron Paul some prime time media coverage as the repulican nominee and I think the public will do the rest.
At one time I really talked this man down. I even spouted off crap that I had heard from gossip. I WAS WRONG. I "Googled" Ron Paul and got an education. I'll be able to vote next time without crossing my fingers.
The fact that you are supporting Ron Paul is great, but the the fact that you can admit that you were wrong about him is even greater. It gives hope to the idea that peoples' eyes are being opened.
Admit I was wrong about him? I don't remember saying that. I support him but disagree with him on several issues.
Some of his followers think everybody needs to be lockstep with him on EVERY ISSUE. I don't subscribe to that. That's turning support for his presidency into a cult.
I'm telling you people this is the one show that should be on DVD to give to other people I love Ron Paul in a fight but this one will win a lot of hearts and minds.
Ron Paul's message is a breath of fresh air in a crowd of scripted politicians. I sincerely hope he wins the Presidency. He has my vote, no matter what ticket he runs on.
Ron Paul's treatment on this NewsHour interview is much more respectful than when he appeared on it in 1988 as the Libertarian candidate. Then the interviewer couldn't contain his dismissive amusement at Ron's freedom message. Ron now commands a respectful hearing. There's no stopping an idea whose time has come. Now is freedom's time!!!
The interviewer was really starting to squirm at Ron Paul's replies about personal responsibility. She clearly seemed uncomfortable with the idea that the federal government shouldn't run every facet of our lives. I wonder if this is how most people feel?
I think so actually, most people today would not know what to do without the government(I must admit I am worried too, it will happen whether we like it or not if we go bankrupt). We were born on the government dole and its getting rid of the protection leaves a person naked in their minds, its a psychological thing. (Continued)
So for many they know Ron Paul is the right thing to do but it scares the daylights out of most people. So we need to make people understand that under Ron Paul we would be more prosperous so health care (And other financial issues) will NOT be as mcuh problem.
When was she snide? This was actually a very fair, even friendly, interview IMO. Certainly put most of the trash we've endured previously to shame. Perhaps she seemed confused now and then, but bear in mind that she's been immersed in collectivism for decades!
Yeah, I agree with Scott. She was very fair, if not pitching softballs. This was a fabulous interview that I would share with anyone who wants to learn more about Ron Paul.

Abortion is against the Constitution.
Maybe the war of drugs has never been properly fought in the US.

I want to be protected from drug addicts because they hurt other people.

Marijuana in Holland being legal works as well! I think it is in fact more free than prohibit it!! As cannabis is comparable to alcohol.
Hard drugs, however, are mostly very addictive and therefore people should be protected from it.

Is abortion wrong or not? If it is, make it a federal issue, just like any other crime.
Drugs because altho I don't give a piss about the adult junkie, I care about the kids he/she might have & they will be abused by these junkies.
Also innocent people who might be killed by a high junkie in a car accident need to be protected.
Otherwise it's like Opium Den China or Hongkong.

If the state then declares it illegal, too bad meth town.
the fed shouldn't tell you how to live

Drugs are the cause of many problems throughout the US, but the war on drugs in my opinion has failed. Drugs have not been stopped, but more users are going to jail then the sellers. That is not a winning war by my standards. Abortion should be a state, and local issue. The gov't cannot control money, military lives, or healthcare properly, so i cannot trust they could give us rule on such an issue as abortion.

The Constitution only recognizes one federal crime: treason.
Crime fighting is a role of the states.

although i am not an american and have no say.

AlisonChaynz 4 years ago 7
....furthermore the friends I introduce to Ron Paul are quick converts. His message is clear and sincere and people can tell.
This video is going on my laptop and door to door.
I want to be part of it.

Excellent interview, the best Ron Paul has recieved on Television.

I will be scared if we elect anyone else on either side.
lewti27 4 years ago 5
I agree his policy ideas are spot on...but It seems probable to me they gave him such a softball interview because they want him to siphon off support from republicans like Perot did in '92 and lock up a win for the Dems.
boobooredcape 4 years ago
The controlled media may indeed want a Democrat to win this time. However, all that has to be done is to give Ron Paul some prime time media coverage as the repulican nominee and I think the public will do the rest.

What greaat interview. I had almost forgotten what a real interview sounds like.
1000 Kudos to Ms. Woodruf, for doing a proper interview. Hannity, B.O. and Chris Mathews could all learn a lot from her.

Quasifonix 4 years ago 2
Admit I was wrong about him? I don't remember saying that. I support him but disagree with him on several issues.
Some of his followers think everybody needs to be lockstep with him on EVERY ISSUE. I don't subscribe to that. That's turning support for his presidency into a cult.
mountainbearclimber 4 years ago
well since he's a constitutionalist then yeah, most everyone should agree. but if you don't agree on something, idc. just vote for him =D

I agree with you completely. This single interview won over a friend who was very anti-paul prior to watching this. Let him speak, and it works.

Mosier2 4 years ago 9
The interviewer was really starting to squirm at Ron Paul's replies about personal responsibility. She clearly seemed uncomfortable with the idea that the federal government shouldn't run every facet of our lives. I wonder if this is how most people feel?
Quasifonix 4 years ago 5
I think so actually, most people today would not know what to do without the government(I must admit I am worried too, it will happen whether we like it or not if we go bankrupt). We were born on the government dole and its getting rid of the protection leaves a person naked in their minds, its a psychological thing. (Continued)
Dumbell99 4 years ago 3
So for many they know Ron Paul is the right thing to do but it scares the daylights out of most people. So we need to make people understand that under Ron Paul we would be more prosperous so health care (And other financial issues) will NOT be as mcuh problem.
Dumbell99 4 years ago 5
He answered her snide questions with ease.
savageUSA 4 years ago 2
When was she snide? This was actually a very fair, even friendly, interview IMO. Certainly put most of the trash we've endured previously to shame. Perhaps she seemed confused now and then, but bear in mind that she's been immersed in collectivism for decades!
