Fibre optics DONT rust, spark, or electricute people, and transfer gigabits of data at the speed of light. Copper alloy's transfer at 1/10th the speed of light and attenuate a LOT per unit length. We need decent internet just as much as we need roads bud.

You do realise how far behind the 1st world we are in internet speeds right? Building the NBN will boost our economy and how we live. Fibre optics DONT rust, spark, or electricute people, and transfer gigabits of data at the speed of light. Copper alloy's transfer at 1/10th the speed of light and attenuate a LOT per unit length. We need decent internet just as much as we need roads bud.
You may have cable sir, but many of us that live in the rural communities cant get cable.

Think how many hospitals & roads won't be built if the whole NBN goes ahead.

Too bad in 5 years time when every single major city in the world will be using the 4g Signal for internet which will provide a speed atleast as good, if not better the cables would have been wasted. The government should simply pay telstra to build towers in areas that previously have not been able to get internet.

@MusicalAndTall And for the record, it isn't the speed that matters in todays age, but rather the quality of the server. And sites like youtube simply can't provide speed of 1 gigabit per second. And who gives half a toss if a video loads in 4 seconds rather than 5.
No one in Australia who already has cable will experience faster speeds and those who do could simply switch to the 3g network when the government decides to put the towers in which is a much better idea.

@smicko77 And that is because you are downloading from a fast server, not because you have fast internet. Telstra recently updated there speeds and NO ONE I no has increased speeds and we have all checked the service speed. Possibly we load a video in 2 seconds instead of 2.4.

I am on ADSL Bigpond. Its not even ADSL2+, and no its not, its for 97% of Australia. I dont live in a city mate. You do know that 90% of the country doesnt run on optic fibre dont you? Coz thats what im talking about. 90% of us are using Aluminium or Copper alloy cables for internet transmittance, and they are SHIT. They lose so much data. The Libs can get fucked. Abbotts a weird cunt. Gillard for me. :)

Their government was handed a solid gold economy on a sterling silver platter, zero foreign debt and twenty two billion dollars in surplus. The so called ' International financial crisis ' wouldn't have affected us in the slightest. I think they just wanted to get rid of all that money because they saw it as the Liberals money, a constant reminder of what a great job Peter Costello did in managing the economy!
