No, it's kickboxing. They just call it MMA because MMA is what's popular. The only main thing that's different about this league from other kickboxing leagues (Besides the ring) is that the rules in WCL don't allow for you to use any real intelligent defense.

Pure grappling events are so boring to watch!!! And the lack of stand up/ striking ability is just as glaring a defeciency as the lack of grappling on the striker's behalf. UFC rules are geared towards the ground and pound/ grappler's advantage. Always have been, considering Rorion Gracie helped to shape it. No small joint manipulations, pinching, gouging, fish hooking, striking a downed opponent, front throat attacks, etc....UFC is NOT the be all end all of combat.

In a street fight if your really lucky or smart it is merely (like everything else) a possibility. but usually when people get too pissed and are awake they usually have even their regular form off so their hits aren't even that effective. The only reason these guys are able to do so in these fights is because they go into the fight mentally and physically prepared for specifically, an MMA style fight. Street altercations are alot different.
