I was going to say, about her question on how Karl's "McCoy" is different from De's: he's not. Karl captured McCoy perfectly, De would've been proud. I think he was the most in-character of the lot.
totally love him he is a class act performer and his portrayal of Bones was perfect. How was he different from DeForests Bones - he was sexy as hell! love Bones and Spock from the original series and absolutely love the new ones too. Not too often you can say that about key characters :D
When he delievered his first line was the point when I relaxed, settled back in my seat and let this story unfold. Up until that point, I was very aprehensive, but as soon as Karl appeared I said, "My God! It IS Bones!"
@wavepsychic he was amazing as the emperor but I loved his Cupid he just looked so adorable with blonde hair and was hilarious in the scenes with Ted Raimi (Joxer) lol :D
@wavepsychic lol ye he shot Xena, Joxer and the others as Cupid and kept dunting Joxer on the head when he lifted the love spell lol it was hilarious. You can watch Xena on megavideo (that`s what I do as I still love the show) and youtube has a lot of Joxer and Cupid vids :D
You can tell this interview was done during the filming of Star Trek because of his accent, which he does fantastically in the new movie, by the way. He definitely does the character justice.
who gives a crap about his "accent" - the Kiwi accent sounds gay and a mongrelized combination of UK and USA English anyway. What's important is what he is saying and that he is UNDERSTOOD. Karl Urban is awesome and he was the best one in the new Star Trek movie. Kudos to Karl.
He was the BEST part of that movie!!!!!! He did GREAT!!!! Can't say that about some others...... I really felt McCoy had too small a part in the movie though.......
Yeah that made me sad having McCoy play so small a role. He was one of the main three in the original series. I hope that if there is a second one made that he gets a bigger part.
I know! It's really sad - you don't realize how terribly he got SHAFTED until you see DeForest's brilliance in the original series... and Urban was sooo spot on! Le sigh, yes, here is to hoping!
I'm fairly sure he will. The first movie was made as a coming-of-age film. Both Kirk and Spock's upbringings have been brought up quite a bit in TOS so it was really only natural for the film to focus on that. Unfortunately, Bones didn't have such a situation and for a film you have to bring the situations that have the most dramatic qualities to them. I do think Karl Urban did a great job and he really made you care. He did Kelley justice and can't wait to see more of him for the sequels!
I thought Karl Urban did a great job answering her questions in this interview. It must be hard sometimes to come up with intelligent things to say to questions about a movie that hasn't come out yet.
Love Karl and still watch hm in GHOSTSHIP! I really can not wait to see STAR TREK and have just seen PATHFINDER. Yes I am a little behind in liking him but who cares! He is a hunk but fortunately he is quite down-to-earth (!) about it and that makes him all the better for it! Being bugging the boyfriend to buy me all his films now and I am waiting until 11.05 tonight so that I can watch GHOSTSHIP for the 50th time. Forgot he was in LOTR so will be getting that out of the cupboard tomorrow.
Yes, Karl did the best job of everyone, which is surprising. I don't know why, but I think everybody expected Spock to be the best, but didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, everybody did god in their appointed roles (except those for Scotty, Sulu and Chekov) but Karl was THE best. :)
Karl Urban was my favorite part of the movie, he's recieved some criticism for being so similar to deforest kelley, but I think he played the character perfectly, it couldn't have been any better.
"Got no choice. Ex-wife took the rest of the planet in the divorce!" Urban and Pegg may have been the brightest spots in what was a pretty awesome movie.
"I have different color eyes" pretty much sums up the differences. He's so good in the movie, it's crazy. Is he really disguising his accent or has he lost it?
He might be doing that thing Christian Bale did during the promotion for Batman - sort of keeping with the illusion that they're American so people going to see it don't judge them based on that.
The NZ accent sounds gay. You must be a Kiwi obviously - Kiwis have inferiority complexes about themselves. That's the first thing anyone in the rest of the world notices when they meet Kiwis. Karl is adapting to his audience. That's TALENT. He's overcome his Kiwi inferioirty complex.
