As this Kevin fellow mentioned in his Hyena video, you have to understand how they interact with another before you can interact with them in this way. As he said, they will hurt you if you don't work at it.

This isn't because they love him, it's because they respect him. Very few animals are capable of a range of emotions (or any emotions at all), and none so much as humans. Most are purely instinctual creatures.

Anthropomorphizing is ignorant at best.

...this is just a realistic viewpoint. I have a lot of affection for various species and I've centered my life around working with a few of them.

@DutchieLady You should reconsider your viewpoint my friend, "instinct" is just a label for actions of another that one either doesn't understand or refuses to try to understand. Ignorance. I would completely disagree with "very few" animals are capable of a range of emotions. Everyone (humans included) is a product of their environment. Everything boils down to my last sentence.. really think about it. Also if you don't directly reply to someone it doesn't go to their inbox.

@Leidachinaman So you're saying bugs and reptiles are capable of love and hate? Honestly, you're the one being ignorant. Are you saying all scientists and behavioralists are ignorant and you know more than they do? Dogs, for example, are capable of emotion, whereas snakes are not. To say all creatures have not only a range of emotions, but any emotions at all is ridiculously ignorant and whimsical.

@DutchieLady He has only said such a thing with the Hyena's and he specifically explains that this is because of the hierarchy of their social order. And no, I'm not saying bugs are. If you have the memory span of 5 seconds it's a little hard to maintain emotions to a noticable level. Not to mention if you have a life-span of 3-7 days. Think about it my friend, the only reason we have such a gap on all other animals is because of our complex system of communication and our lifespan.

I'm saying as far as labeling an action as "instinct" that is simple ignorance, whether willing or not, on their part. They aren't willing to think about the action of the animal in whatever situation either because they don't want to or they don't care to.

@ 999skyler, people need to realize that we are animals too and stop putting humans and all other animals into 2 different categories.

Kevin is trying his best to show people that just because an animal is a predator doesn't mean that it isn't capable of the same range of emotions a human is.... all animals are. If you don't show understanding and respect how/why should you expect animals to show it to you in return?
