Antonio was amazing in "Nine." DDL did a good job as Guido in the film, though. One thing I will say is this: I don't mean to offend anyone, but on the bright side, at least he showed off his voice in the film version of "Evita" as Che.
I feel so bad they didn't have Antonio do the movie!! I saw the show on Broadway when I was ten years old. My mom and I had seats in the front row of the balcony, but moved up to the front row when we saw that there were two vacant seats at intermission. Antonio was AMAZING!
DDL was sub par - the entire movie was. If you have seen the show, you will be disappointed in the movie. If not... Well, I don't know. But I thought it sucked!!!!
I saw Banderas in the Broadway show and he WAS Guido. On the other hand, Daniel Day-Lewis is acting the part. He does a good job and brings depth & darkness to the role, but he just isn't Guido. You can always tell he's DDL acting the part of Guido. A bad case of miscasting. Still, the film works...but it would have been better with Antonio. He electrified the theatre audience. I sat in the 3rd row and was in awe of his singing & dancing.
I saw Antonio Banderas perform in "Nine" shortly after it opened on Broadway and he was simply brilliant--I never knew he could sing or dance so magnificently! It's a shame that he wasn't approached to do the film version. What were they thinking?
Well I dont remember NINE featuring in Westend...Even if it does, wonder who will fit into the shoes of Bandareas/DLD......

Bueno, Banderas bordó el papel en el teatro y DDL no lo ha superado en el cine. Punto pelota!

julie andrews played eliza dolittle on stage, but audrey hepburn got the role because of her star power

@pasdunatos In my opinion, if Julie had been Eliza in the film, she would have TWO Academy Awards right now.

I couldn't agree more. He was fabulous in that show and picking Daniel Day Lewis? A HUGE mistake!

It should have been Banderas, he's RIGHT for the part, NOT a non Latin/Italian Daniel Day Lewis! WRONG WRONG WRONG!

Yeah.... I still think it's BS that he wasn't first choice. Daniel will be AMAZING. But... come on.

@starmochieater09 Really? I thought he was most articulate in English, his second language, than most American-borns are.
